Question: What mistakes have you done in your past EVE-career that you would've changed now in retrospect?
Categories:
1. Mistakes you did with your training.
2. Mistakes with a type of corp. you joined.
3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK.
4. Other mistakes (the rest here).
Please motivate your answers as much as you feel like.
Maybe this can help new players make better choices.

3. used t2 ships too often while pirating and lost a lot of isk

No regrets here, but I think I stuck in one corp too long (though under two names)

Nothing I really regret doing.

1: Go on a break of a year while keeping my account active, but still manage to have a skill training only half of the time
2: Joining RKK
3: I started my EvE career as a trader and later miner, luckily I realized my mistake before it ruined all the fun in the game for me
4: Doing mining ops with dimensionZ, he yells at you when you don't mine fast enough, or when you manage to get your hauler blow up by gate rats

1. Mistakes you did with your training.
selected "fighter" instead of "custom" on the char creation, didn't train learning skills.
2. Mistakes with a type of corp. you joined.
no mistakes with corps i've joined they all developed my style of play and my attitude in game which is how i like it.
3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK.
Never managed to make any
4. Other mistakes (the rest here).
Sold my love on the forums resulting in meeting verone and the other snigg lads who took advantage of me. (not really, was the best thing i ever did )

1. Mistakes you did with your training. Mining 4, Refining 4, GAH!
2. Mistakes with a type of corp. you joined. None really. Though I have just quit current corp to carebear it for a while....
3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK. Have given tens and tens of millions away to corpies and other random people I met. Then when I quit (forever!!!!) I gave away EVERYTHING I owned. When I restarted 3 months later that hurt a lot... (Though excorp's CEO bunged me 200mill to help out, and Shark Daquiri & the Hippo helped too :) )
4. Other mistakes (the rest here). Decided that gate camping in Amamake would be a fun thing to do while drunk and went from +2.6 sec status to -9.9 in one evening. Am still rebuilding back to a level so I can fly about freely!

1.) Didn't reroll once I found out what the attributes actually do. I put one or two points into charisma at character creation. :P
My other major mistake was in training Matari instead of Gallente when I needed a turret boat. Gallente are uber and keep getting buffed (drone changes, blaster changes), while Matari just keep falling further and further behind (tried the new typhoon, wasn't impressed). I could go on about how Hail L autocannon ammo is useless due to the velocity penality, while Void L blaster ammo is uber (in fact, Void L is currently one of the "win" buttons in PvP), and how Spike L owns Tremor L due to tracking and range. I could talk about DPS vs. alpha strike, and how alpha strike is becoming less and less useful.
Right now, it's just gotten to the point where Minmatar are becoming more and more sub-par compared to the other races; if they don't get a real buff soon, I may have to quit flying them.
2.) I can't really think of any. At the time I joined any given corp, they were right for me. Some of the evolved into something differet that wasn't my style, however, and the closest thing I can think of to a mistake was in staying too long in such corps after they were no longer fun.
3.) Um...can't really think of any. I can't stand mining, so I got the NPCing-in-a-raven part down perfectly.
4.) I've occasionally missed starting a new skill on time. One time I didn't log on to a week due to RL issues, and forgot that my skill had finished training right at the very beginning. -Wrayeth

1. Character creation - Chose Intaki ('cept Intaki are waaay the coolest from an RP perspective) - Chose industrialist skills and attributes - Made a really bad portrait (fixed that mistake spring of 2004)
2. Mistakes you did with your training. - Mining V - Astrogeology V - Deep Core Mining II - Minmatar Frigate II
3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK. - I DIDN'T buy a lot of +3 implants during Gemini to sell during Castor inspite of seing they'd rice in price. - I didn't get RPM on my science-heavy main until... a few months ago.
4. Other mistakes (the rest here). - During one night I scouted a blob in 0.0 and found both of them to be bubbled. I don't scout blobs like that any more. - I once wrote in so called "l33t sp33k". This is by far my biggest mistake ever. New sig coming soonÖ Tuxford's good for EVE. |

1. Kinda wish I would have trained more combat early on, altho im a kickin' carebear when I choose to be :p
2. So far I have been pretty good with corp joining. As long as your an agreeable person you can find a home just about anywhere in EVE. Show your good qualities and you will move up in the ranks and have some power. mmmm power
3. So far I have been good about not making any real isk mistakes. I sold an alliance-mate a raven recently tho, on a promise to pay for it, and have only gotten like half back... Might have to hit up one of his corpmates for the remaining and transfer his debt to them I have given alot of isk to noobs, which isn't a regret. Pay-it-forward in EVE works in a huge way. I find that giving isk to people I pirate to help them replace their stuff keeps them in eve, and sometimes develops friendships.
4. Quit for like 6 months, didnt know I would come back or that you could put a long skill on.
Mining in a 0.2 or 0.3 alone, letting drones take out spawns, wasn't watching local and lost my covetor and strippers, crippling my wallet for a while until I got to a point where I could rat effectivly in 0.0.
Smack-talked too much in beginning during station camps with war-decs. Wish I could have seen that being mature will get you out of station and let you duel your enemies, and sometimes them even let you stop at armor and stuff just because they respect you for coming out.

1. Mistakes you did with your training. nothing really, i guess training for some caldari junk
2. Mistakes with a type of corp. you joined. Not really it seems half of the industrial corps or lesser pvp corps i was in when iwas a "younger" char, got war decced by people in my current corp (in there own respective corps)
3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK. Dont know i sold my hawt caldari spec alt cos i was low on isk now i wish i hadnt, bout it.
4. Other mistakes (the rest here). Corp hopping I was in general in my current corp during the duration of of the last 12 months, while being in other corps, never fitted in elsewhere just sat on ts with the guys all the time wishing i hadnt left. Made my employment history pretty big and pathetic.

I liked them better but as eve changes ebbed and flowed and the favor of weapons changed, it just lead me full circle back to these. Huge waste of skill points. What's that sound? Oh, it is 6.5 million skill points going *whoosh* as they go down the drain.
3. Should have stuck to NPCing in 0.0.

1. Didn't realise for a while that skills train while you're offline! Had my machine on 24/7 for about 2 weeks!
Trained a month and a half of mining skills
2. None
3. Tried mining. Soon realised it was boring, and missions/loot/bounties make money quicker.
4. Thought there must be something good about faction ships, and lost several before realising that they're just isk sinks.

4. Never had enough RL time to play to get immersed into the virtual world of EVE. Feels like my whole EVE experience from Beta 6 on has been one big lack of time to play the game "properly".
Sometimes I think it has been just a big waste of time, as I can never take my characters to their full potential...
It's a crappy feeling actually...

3. Didn't start research early enough.

1. Trained lasers to be me weapons of choice.
2. None. Both corps I've been in (Karjala Inc./FLA and EVOTECH/ISS) have been great for my needs.
3. Entered 0.0 before getting any gunnery skills.
4. Reprocessed wrong stuff like True Sansha hardener, bought 1000 instead of 100 of some mundane item needed for a mission, stuff like that. ________________________________________________ My signature exploded :/ |

Didn't start a combat char at retail. Then when I made one 6 months later (first EVE^2 offer) I trained mining 4 (hidden belts 4tl). Later on I also trained small projectile to level 1 by accident. It's the only gunnery skill of mine that isn't 5.
2. Mistakes with a type of corp. you joined.
No regrets, though if I had the chance again I'd probably join m0o for a while.
3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK.
When research agents were released, my first field of study was Quantum Physics I believe. It got me a small capacitor battery II print after a week and like 100 RP. Then sold it for 10 mil and switched to Caldari Starship and trained the skill up to 5 and got me 5 more Caldari Starship agents. Then a while later when the CPR nerf came, cap recharger II's began skyrocketing. Oh and ofcourse I never got anything ever again. 4. Other mistakes (the rest here).
Being a nub too long in the beginning. I.e. mining gneiss in 0.5 while others were ninja-mining ark in 0.0, or never caring about getting more offices until it was too late (Gehi 4tw).

3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK. thought hauling 15mio tritanium 10 jumps with an iteron mk3 for 3mio gain is a good way to make money
4. Other mistakes (the rest here). becoming a forum addict, beeing in the same alliance as woody, not convoing woody every now and then ___________________

1. Mistakes you did with your training. Spent too long training pure learning skills, when a few frigate skills and then learning skills would have been more enjoyable.
Training any refining skills, when there is always someone in corp with maxed out skills anyway, and the process is instantaneous, so only need 1 person per corp
Training for ships/roles that didn't suit my playing possibilities: - 'Healer' skills (Shield/Energy/Armor Transfer, Logistics Ships), ships which still a very limited role during combat. - Fleet Command Ships, can only really use them in Fleet, and limited solo role. Most of my play time isn't long enough to get into fleet/gang combat and really leverage these.
Trying to do everything with 1 character at first. Was much better to open a second account, train something specialist for say, 4 months, then pay the $20 to transfer it onto my main account.
2. Mistakes with a type of corp. you joined. Having almost always created corps, rather than joined them, the first corp I created, I was too flexible with recruitment policy, had too much churn and not enough dedication.
3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK. Any activity that was communist in some form. eg. Group mining for corp, to make shared corp ships. Complete waste of time. People all judge risk and reward differently. Group mining together is cool, but take your split and make your own decisions on how to spend your portion.
Trying to make ISK by ganging with PvPers, another complete waste of time, they're **** at it compared to specialists.
4. Other mistakes (the rest here). - Underestimating the price rise in seemingly useless BPOs early on and bauwking at a Tech II Frigate BPO being sold for 170m isk (ok, it was a loong time ago) - Wasting time on the forums when I could have been playing instead.

1. a)Chose Intaki. Damn high charisma. I liek Intakis tho. b)Chose "balanced" attributes As result not of my attributes is terirbyl low, btu none is high eighter. Migth not have been that bad but I wish I had higher willpower and perception and far less charisma (don't think I put any extra points in charisma tho when I selectied attribtes. Might have put some when I selected the bacround as I slected that from RP perspective) c)Caldair crusier lv.3 and Minmatr cruiser lv.3. Dunno if these coun a smistakes because I'm planning o eventually learnign to fly Scorp and Tempest, btu rigth now they're a bit useless. d) Production-related skills. Don't really need em. 2.None 3.None. Minign and ratting are good ways to ake cash.

1. I thought it'd be a great Idea to set memory high as hell because learning skills were based off them. Then trained pure industry due to attributes yet I never EVER do industry...
2. Corp hopped alot, some corp choices: Omega Corp, S******dly, and many many of my own...
3. Sell off my characters for ISK... First character sold around a year and a half ago with 15m sp, sold for 2.4b. Second char sold around 6 months ago 14m sp. Sold @ 1.4b. Third char sold right after second char, 3mil sp, sold for 800mil. Fourth char around 3 months ago. 15m sp sold for 1.8b
(I wish I never sold my first char and started this cycle of thinking its a good Idea... And note thats a total of around 6.4b... atm Im under 100mil :P) However, I do like the thought that I have created actual characters that people use and perhaps they can use them better than I could, make their names better known >:)
4. When I first started playing eve I didn't know how to train skills, and I'm to smart to read manuals / tutorials... So I went at least 3 days with no skill training. And the guy who helped me was a leader of a pirate corporation, who I ended up joining (no not Snigg, this was back in 03'.)

1) Made my first character to look cool (Made a Brutor character cause I liked the shades), didn't realize he would have garbage int and mem, took FOREVER to learn the non-ship skills. Gave up and started a new character, spent 2 months only training learning skills so no he "Wrayth Osu" rocks, just could have about 5 months more time of skill training.. so about another 6mil in skill points by now :(
2) No corp mistakes, joined a decent one very fast.
3) No ISK earning misatkes... mining 4tw :)
4) Passed on a chance to start playing the game a year earlier than I ended up starting it :( <- biggest regret :( _____________________________ Nukem from orbit... It's the only way to be sure. |

1. Too varied not enough focus, only ever get somewhere when i want something....now its AF>
2. Nope all my corps have bee awsome.
3. Umm, well i have this adiction to buying them shiney new guns, instead of just using the used ones. Im way to nice =\. not saving anyhting, and well then we have the wholee 'Ratting in 0.0 will make you loads of isk'. no one told me about the bands of FiX that would come own me in the belts.
4. I talk waaaaay to much in local. Also, ive just now learned how to 'stab'. And then we have about a months loss of SP because of POD loss.

1. Mistakes you did with your training. Hmm,..I dont think there is any real mistake here,.as every skills comes in handy for me. Maybe spending too much time on learning and focusing on Gunnery too much : p made my defenses suXXor.
2. Mistakes with a type of corp. you joined.
Didnt Join one soon enough. Joined one that wasn't near my time zone. Joined one that was nowhere near anybody else.
3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK.
Buying buttloads of BP's when the corp I was in had'em all already : p Intending to manufacure buttloads of ships and mods and creating a new trade hub rivaling Jita,..but Not.
4. Other mistakes (the rest here).
The biggest mistake was Quitting to play StarWarsGalaxies, then Quitting again to play City of Heroes,...then Quitting again to play Everquest2,...but this time,..when Vangaurd comes out,...I will not make the same mistake. This game is good 'ol reliable.

My biggest "mistake" was maxining all the mining skills that were availible when battleship mining was still the ****. Now with tech 2 barges and all that you have to spend some major time to become more profitable mining then fighting, so all those skills I have are now more or less unused till I max my fighting skills and get time to become a master of roidpopping as well again.

1. Mistakes you did with your training. Hmmmm... not training my learning skills up ASAP. Of course I'm not even 2 weeks old but I can already tell the huge difference learning skills make. Analytical mind training to 5 and Instant Recall to 4 now, so I caught myself before I fell too far.
2. Mistakes with a type of corp. you joined. The corporation I joined is pretty much what I excpeted it to be. We're moving to 0.0 very soon though, and I didn't expect that and will have to stay behind while my SP trains to at least 1.5 mil, which is annoying. 3. Mistakes you did in your choices to make ISK. Absolutely no doubt in my mind, mining is the best way to make ISK. I run missions and such for a little something different, but I always go right back to mining. 4. Other mistakes (the rest here). a. Thinking I was the man flying around in a bantam with 2 civilian railguns and enjoying myself killing low-level rats to the point where a corpmate came out with a Succubus to "show me how easy it was to kill a Bantam". b. afk mining in a .5 system, once again in my trusty Bantam. (First time I got my ship blown up by rats, hopefully the last time as well. :P) c. Buying a Badger, equipping it with 2 expanded cargohold Is, then buying 3 Giant Secure Containers 6 systems away. (Had to make 2 trips, each one around an hour and a half to get them all.) I didn't yet realize the glorious things known as afterburners could have cut that time down by over half... d. Watching a gatecamp from 100km out, just sitting there for about 10 minutes, until I was targetted and realized I had probably better run for it. (Seeing as I was in a Bantam and they in about 6-7 BSs)
Yeah... fun times in EVE. :P

1. Didn't train Engineering and Electronics up soon enough so I had been flying around with crap ship fits. Trained up electronic warfare, but didn't actually use it for months.
2. Stayed in a little two person corp for way too long. Tried to do a deadspace with the other person in the corp (who had been playing for a month) right after finishing the tutorial and getting the starter implant. Almost immediately got killed and lost implant.
3. Only ISK mistake is perhaps worrying too much about it.
4. Showed up in local in .4 and said "Hey everyone! Check out my brand new brutix!" Lost said brutix 2 min. later. Went into a system and said "I'm here to kill pirates (meaning NPCs). Anyone see any?" I was sent to a system where two player pirates quickly killed me. Told a pirate who wanted $5 mil for my pod to F--- off losing a $10 mil implant.

I didn't believe the crap about high sec piracy and decided to clean out a base and run to jita in a sigil.
I was lazy and didn't have a t2 hauler nearby...
The tags were 7 dread gurista crystal tags and to mention the loot kinda makes me cry |

1. training missiles and iteron iv =/ not bad though but the worst I could find. 2. joined a corp wich was supposed to be a merc corp but ended up beeing a jump fleet around empire for nothing really. 3. doing missions (0.0 ratting is much more efficient) 4. trained up for a raven(even though it was a week it's a week from gallente!), bought a deimos before ishtar (sheesh)
Not much of bad mistakes I've made. Thought much of my future in eve before I do stuff

3) when raven was an ISK machine I trained for amarr bs as the were cool, despite creating a Caldari char.
5) when being a vice-CEO in my previous corp, pushing it to join an alliance, which led eventually to the destruction of a corp and many sad things afterward.
5a) being a crap vice-CEO
