I currently have a second account on trial training up the learning skills in preparation for further skill-training. They're Caldari, if that matters.
My primary account is Gallente and I'm doing Battlecruisers (working up to battleships eventually). So I need something that would work well in combination.
Should I make them a fighter? A miner? A manufacturer? Please don't respond with "whatever you want!", because I don't know what I want :) I'd like some outside opinions about what roles the account could fulfill and what advantages those roles would confer.
Thank you in advance.

If you are intending to pay for the account once the trial is done then probably set it up as a miner/hauler character. They are always useful and in demand. The other type is the pure PvP specialist pilot. Eg Heavy Assault ship or covert ops or command ship pilots.
Orks corp is looking for new blood in Heimatar. Small friendly and experienced. Contact me ingame :) |

Depends on what you plan on doing in the game.
If you are not going to pvp and only run mission then a logistics (remote shield boosting/armor repair) pilot would be the perfect alt.
For pvp a covert ops pilot is the way to go imho. I have one and I don't think I could live without it.
For an industrialist/miner a hauler alt is nice etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's exactly the kind of response I said I didn't want. I don't know what I want to do.
What's the /benefit/ of doing the things you suggested? It's all greek to me.

Well if you are going to train up a speciallized alt you really need to decide what you want to do in this game.
There are no special advantages with choosing one path or another, it depends on what you like. This game is about having fun, not whoring as much isk as possible (for some that can be fun to of course).
I would suggest to test the different things in the game with out main while you are still training the learning skills on your alt.
Go to lowsec or 0.0 and do some pvp, see if you like it or not (some people love it, some hate it). Do some missions, do some mining, do some trading etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've already done all of those things. What I'm asking is what advantages those activities confer in the long run.

Edited by: Hoshi on 21/06/2006 22:07:45 Covert Ops: Much safer flying in lowsec and 0.0. Combat intel, warp-ins, probing etc. You will never be cought in a trap if you have a covert alt (and use it). Can later be expanded to fly Force Recon which are very good combat support ships.
Logistics: Much easier to do high level missions, complexes and belt npcing. Can also work as loot collector. The skills set it not too far away from the covert ops pilot so they can easly be combined.
Manufacturer: Can make your own ships and mods cheaper. Can earn money on the side buy building and selling.
Hauler: More effective mining and trading. Unless you aim for freighters this can be combined with any other type without too much effort.
Miner: Can be used to make a lot of money on the side, but you really need access to fairly safe 0.0 space for it to be worth it.
Researcher: Like buying a lottery ticket. Get lucky and you win billions, unlucky and it will just cost you with no benefits. The research system is changing in the comming months but none knows exactly how so even more a lottery ticket in that aspect. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How profitable would manufacturing be for me? I obviously don't have very many skills right now...

refining skills would be nice too, but the skills above make you fairly good at 0.0 ore collection.
You obviously need the usual basic ship fitting skills too

You couldnt go wrong getting a miner, the barge skill is really worth having and if your main is pvp orientated you have personal backup for some good lowsec mining ops even alone.

If you are thinking of taking your first account into lowsec or 0.0 for either trade or ratting or even mining then maybe a Covert Ops would be handy. Make the instas that the first account can use to move something bigger with more safety.
You could even use it to make region instas to sell if you are good enough. A bit extra isk never hurt anyone.

This is kinda the path I seem to be going down atm. I have the refining skills as well, but I have a question about haulers....
Right now instead of going to the IteronV, Im training for the Mammoth....I figured Id try out the Mammoth first, and see if upgrading to the IteronV would be something I feel is worth the time invenstment to train up to.
You guys think thats a good idea?
I know if I switch to Iteron V, 5-ish days would have been lost to Mammoth training (but really 5 days isnt that much, is it?)
So what does the peanut gallery think?
Thanks!
