all i've ever seen killrights used for is a punishment-by-lag to all the outlaws and people-that-get-killed-a-lot.
also to anyone that has a lot of killrights, what do you do when your character sheet opens to the killrights tab and there's so many it doesn't load? Or when you do a "show info" on your ship and it opens to the killrights tab? i don't have THAT many killrights but i'm curious to know if there is a way to skip loading it all.
Story time!
I'm an anti-pirate for the most part, which means I don't usually get kill rights even when I die. However, every once in a while I'll end up in a fight where I don't manage to shoot back at some of the parties (usually because of ECM or being badly outnumbered), and I'll get a kill right.
The first time this happened was when I misjudged an encounter and ended up fighting a blackbird and two stabbers in my thorax. Oops. To make a long story short, my wingman got the blackbird, but the two stabbers took me down without too much effort.
Reship, rearm, undock. Chased the pirates around a bit more, but they weren't biting and once their flags wore off they jumped back into safe space. I was about to give up and head home when my wingman suggested I check for kill rights.
What ho! I had kill rights on one of the stabber pilots. I flew to the gate as quickly as my little engines could push me, and went through after them.
They were waiting on the other side, but warped off as soon as I uncloaked. I eventually caught up with them two systems over, in .8 space.
Apparently the stabber pilot didn't bother to check his kill rights, because he and his buddy (the other stabber) decided to have some fun orbiting my ship (a combat-fitted vexor) at 3km distance. Even sweeter, they tried to bait me into attacking them by locking onto my ship.
Well, alright. I opened up on the stabber I had kill rights for. It was probably a solid 30 seconds before he realized CONCORD wasn't coming to save him, and by then there wasn't much left of his ship but structure.
The best part, though? The other stabber pilot decided to help his buddy out by attacking me. The sentry guns blew his ship to atoms after just a few volleys.
I'm a big fan of kill rights to this day.
