......The ironic thing is, all this information were from people saying "0.0 is not all that hard. You just need to follow these 'simple' steps." After hearing what they have to say about 0.0, I feel even more inclined to stay away.
Minimum requirement is to be able to think, once that is out the way everything else is easy. You constantly make judgement calls about what to do based on your knowledge and experience, yeah it means actually playing the game instead of watching tv whilst your miners kill a roid or you travel.
It is so very true that attitude is everything, but I believe there is far more to this issue than we may realize...
Hans, your statement above about the minimum requirement is to be able to think...I know you have something there. I myself have the desire, and a little bit of faith that I can do quite well in 0.0, BUT when it comes down to the thinking part, that is where it all falls apart...let me be specific...
1.) When I log into EVE, I have difficulty deciding what the Priorities are for what has to done, when it has to be done, and what skills are needed. This difficulty has to do with who I am as a player in real life, and to be honest, I am plagued with this deficiency everday in real life. When I log into EVE, the problem gets compounded in so many small and large ways....so, I have a problem with thinking coherently enough to accomplish almost any old thing.
2.) I have difficulty with accepting and handling risk; lots of people do in real life, so why should this be such a surprise when those same people enter from real life into a virtual life as a EVE Pod Pilot?
3.) I have difficulty not so much in making friends, but in keeping them...when you have problems such as I have mentioned above, working with others sometimes becomes very difficult, not because they are the problem, no, I am the problem.
4.) So, if myself and others in real life deal with these challanges, then isn't conceivable that we would also have these problems ingame as well?
Just as there are many different types of people in real life, so too are there many different types of players in EVE. Just as people in real life have personal strengths and weaknesses that they deal with (or don't deal with) daily in real life, so too is it the same in EVE. In EVE, we as players bring so very much of ourselves from real life into this game that I believe we sometimes forget that the person you are mining and fighting with is a real person with real life problems. They bring these with them to some extent into the game, no matter how much they try not to.
Now, I have been foolish enough on these forums to admit enough information about mysel as a real life person to almost insure that I will probably NEVER get another Corp invite ingame again.....Who in their right mind would ever be foolish enough to admit this kind of information in a game? Very few Players would be this honest, and they are right not to be, for they would be sorted out as unwanted candidates for Corp membership almost immediately. I realise some people may not agree with me on this point, but once again, let's be honest....would you want a player with personal problems in your corp/alliance, especially if they couldn't keep those problems with interfering with the corp's / alliance's goals and mission?
Of course you wouldn't...no one would.
Some people in this game have difficulties in doing the very things needed ingame for success because they have difficulties in real life with the same. Let's please keep this in mind.
and...if you are fortunate enough not to have any weaknesses, then consider yourself lucky. Enjoy it. Do something with your abilities and remember that some us can only wish we could do the same.
