I think the real sign of the nations moral decay is the fact there are very few Family Guy clips having to do with Ann Coulter on youtube.
Its probably not the nations morality at fault on that. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

I'm not familiar to this lady, so... is that bona fide satire or just a case of Poe's law?
I think it's the second, as satire always haves a counterpoint which is the actual point of the satire, and that article just looks... serious.
In which case I recommend that lady to stop a ball with her head after a professional football player kicks it from half the field away, without a helmet. I forget when I stopped reading, but it was about the time I realized this woman is either a brilliant troll or the next Glenn Beck. Her bullet points became progressively ridiculous and mockable and I just lost interest because sadly, she will be championed for this opinion by a vocal minority of the country and amplified through biased networks.
There's not much I can say. Anyone with half a brain and an ego that's not too big to accept another well known sport that is undeniably bigger than anything here in the states is on the same level as American Football should gloss over this article.
I love American Football. Love it. I call it Football and I don't care that the rest of the world mocks me for it and refers to it as hand egg. I don't like Soccer, or Futbol. My reasons are pretty good actually. I like the drama and suspense occurring between every play in baseball and every down in football. I like the strategies coming out of the dugouts and sidelines, there is a whole 'nother level going on besides what the players are doing on the field. I am not a fan of constant in motion sports like Soccer, Basketball and Tennis and the like. But THAT'S JUST ME. That is what I like and dislike and I laid out my reasons for it.
It has nothing to do with where the sport was born or my ethnicity. Personally, I think Miss Coulter would be surprised to find out the types of people who watch soccer, but she probably didn't bother to look because it might disagree with her theories and arguments about the direction our country is taking. In fact, it seems she views soccer as a sissy sport. While I wouldn't dare compare it to contact football, her aggressive stance on the issue seems to suggest our society should be writhing with bare chested vikings beating their chests with spiked maces for fun, or perhaps we should just bring back the roman gladiators. I love the violence of contact football but dear lord don't paint our society as barbarians please..... You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.-á |

I've always thought that American, of all people, would appreciate the egalitarian spirit of football: it requires no special equipment (bats, gloves, helmets...) and no special playfield. It only takes, literally, one football.

See you changed what you were saying, the tags used, not how you previously phrased it.. They're not the same, no matter how liberal entertainers spin them all as one with confusing spin for laughs. Left, right, center, neocon, rino, conservative, etc etc.
And for all the others, many of them pride themselves over being referred to such as "soccer moms" etc. Coulter is just a RINO (republican in name only), this is just more bashing by the establishment as they gear up for a war within their party once again. These comments I think spur from her recent attacks on Rand Paul etc. The whole "amnesty" thing and he being identified with those "soccer mom" groups. She is looking for an edge to sale more books.
And she will be supporting lefty flip-floppy Romney more aggressively over the coming year most likely, for another RINO run again unless they ditch him for Jeb Bush or someone, or McCain again or whoever they get their hooks into for their RINO nomination... which again we will have a new president same as the last and same as the one before no matter which party gets in.
Coulter is just doing as Coulter does, noting new here to see. I'd say just take it as entertainment and move on, she wants to sell books and if her book sales started to dwindle, she would jump ship to some other point of view. |

Kinda splitting hairs here.

Hmm? speak for yourself? I'm a native, I was born here. Thing of it is, you would need to pretty much ignore world history to just point out people living in the US. So like, the English are just immigrants living in England, too?
But I know were you get that from, how it's usually used here (or misused), who uses it for what purpose, and I just don't agree with it as it's not logical to world history. I didn't immigrate from anywhere, I'm an American. You shouldn't even call them "Indians", they're not from India last I checked. It's like the whole "red skins" controversy here now (American football), while people act all outraged over a name to have it removed while they call them "Indians"... lol. |

That article is just a polemic, but I think she *might* have a valid point if you look past the tone. The US has it's own domestic sports, and if you want to preserve (and to a degree protect) that heritage, it's worth treating football (soccer) carefully. It's not just about the game itself, there's a multi-billion corporate machine behind it. FIFA etc aren't exactly known for their code of conduct or ethical practice. They will try to steamroll domestic sports to make money.
Perhaps the various sports corporations should be allowed to scrap over it in the most public and hilarious way possible, for the entertainment value. It'd probably be simpler to openly say "We're just fighting over your money here" but where's the soundbite in that? TO THE RIPARDMOBILE! |

It's purely political nonsense. When ethnic debates pop up here those who claim to be 'English' tend to cite their heritage dates back to 1066 which is a bit er, odd. I'm English by birth but not by ethnicity, so teasing people who get really riled up over it is something of a hobby. Ahem. But if someone wants to start a row over it, I'll point out that the Welsh are actually the indigenous population here, then scurry away to watch the head explosion from a safe distance ;) TO THE RIPARDMOBILE! |

Hehe!
Ah! American Football!
That's Rugby for wimps as they have to wear protection and stop playing every few minutes for a long rest
As for the original poster.
'English Style Football' died back in the 1970's when making money became the only reason to play. So the American term 'Soccer' is rather appropriate as all that is left is a corrupt international big business. Bent on making money anyway it can!
Most likely why US 'American Football' owners now own Britsh teams! |

Your heritage is indeed as immigrant.

Thanks. ed: Football is a great name for the European version for obvious reasons. I'm not sure why the American sport is called football though. The ball is only occasionally kicked, and is pretty much tossed around....using the hands. But handball is already taken, so what's to do ??

Probably Coulter is no worst than some of our european nutjobs. Just they speak non-English languages, live in smaller countries and there's not much money in letting them spread their nonsense on the media.
