When does the rush wear off? Because when i pirate, Im having such a fantastic time. Ive been doing this for maybe a month now, and the rush is still as good as when i started. Hunting for someone, never knowing what you'll find... and then finding a couple of ships in the belt and thinking "what the hell, lets see if I make it" and start the attack. Its a truly great way to play eve.
So what do you guys say.... when do the rush wear off? Does it ever? And do you need to risk more and more iskies after a while to feel the same way?
I always ransom, and so far everybody have payed it. Every single one.

I think its all about risk vs reward.
The rush comes from the risk. So if you have 10 billion isk, then you won't get as big of a rush from flying a t1 frigate (well assuming you've got a fair amount of PvP experience).
But if you start flying really expensive stuff with lots of implants and officer mods, and you're outnumbered, then the rush comes back, because the risk is back.

Wow :o
I still get rushes before fighting fights I'm not sure of winning. I even get the shakes sometimes randomly, usually when I really shouldn't (think last time was when I killed a hauler ;s).

I dunno how an empire miner like Shamis knows about the rush you get in PvP but he is 100% right.

I find I get a good rush when im risking a really expensive ship, or when im taking on a ship I really shouldnt beat, for instance frigate taking on a BC 1v1 is really good fun, imo. -------------------------------------- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/mole12/Mole-sig.jpg Please ensure your signature is 24,000 bytes or less - Udat |

Anyway, what I wanted to say is:
the rush will become weaker a bit after a couple of hundred engagements, but I still have a bit of it in each encounter. I havent had a single encounter yet where I can look back and think: yes, these set-ups and tactics were ideal.

First hundred or two engagements excite you, even if its you in your cruiser vs some dinky lil Navitas - it still excites you. Next few hundred, you start to fit easier engagements like you're hunting NPC rats, its just automatic - harder fights or challenging situations ofc still excite you, but you keep your head a lot better.
I don't know about gatecamping or fleet engagements as I only have minor experience though.

I've been pirating for 11 days now and the rush is still there. Especially when I warp in on something that I really have no buisness trying to kill and then coming out on top.

I find that if your almost certain you will win (and they will not get away) theres no rush but a risky engagement where it could go horibly wrong if there packing a setup that can counter yours always gets my heart going :)

I love pirating. I dont go out and pirate every day, im more of "Wait for a decent size gang" as i tend to be a crap solo pirate in 0.0
But, the rush stopped for me last night when i lost my Tech II Cerberus with Gisti fittings, but i woke up and its back again! -----------------------------------------------

Welcome to my world
As for the rush, it never goes away for me.
I run into every engagement with the firm belief that I'm already dead. It's making it out alive that is the rush, and the reward

For me, it doesn't have anything whatsoever to do with the risk I take. I can stay cool as a block of ice on antarctica when engaging something that will almost definitely kill me, and I can get the rushes when attacking a shuttle.

Edited by: Evil Sulu on 22/06/2006 14:43:58 Nothing compares to that first combat engagement - the pounding adreneline, racing heart, dulled reaction, and everything happens in a blink of the eye. After a few hundred engagements, you've figured things out and the rush is diminished. You become seasonsed.
That being said, every once in awhile you find yourself in a combat situation where you are in way over your head. Sometimes its because an engagement went bad (new contacts, unexpected events, etc.) and sometimes its because you've chosen to engage despite the odds being way against your favor. That bloodrush kicks in, and it feels almost like your first fight again.
Check out this video: Farjung's Wave of Mutilation 2. This vid demonstrates that the excitement of pvp combat is directly proportional to the size of your stones, even for the most seasoned pilots. -------------

When I lead fleet engagements then there is not much rush really, even if I'm getting shot to bits, either you're shooting some guy and killing him or you are getting hit and will make it out or not.
However in a msall group vs small group in cruisers I get a big old rush and especially if it is solo. So yeah loose a BS it's like meh, put me in a small t2 fitted cruiser and it's like rawr.
I don't understand it either.

I have been pirating for about a month and a half and alhtough i'm cautious on who i pick a fight with and dont fly anyting i cant afford to loose i still get the emence rush you feeel ingaging in combat and ransoming a player you know nothing about for money, my ransoms have gone around 50/50 atm and there is the odd occasion where the situation dictates i cannot ransom but so far i have never lost that rush of warping in hand shaking rdying my mods and hoping the target isnt full of stabs so far up his *** that he can only see stations and gates. The risk of isk's is a part of a pirates life and there will alwaysbe risk, even if your a stingy billionare or a high credit card bill player the thrill of you might be loosing a ship and millions of isk's worth of equipment is always on your mind.
p.s dont go on long holidays i have gone on a 3 month one adn i'm starting to get cold turkey from not having my daily fix of ransoming

The best rush for me is when im facing an opponent with a big mouth and big ego and if i beat him it tastes good.
Similarly equal, when im outnumbered (not stupidly) but slightly off balance thats a good rush. --------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Dumus on 23/06/2006 16:12:44 I have been in VETO a couple of months now, the first few kills with a gang were a big rush. That is less so now, but a still awsome fun.
Mellarin > 'ok everyone hold this side of the gate, Hussman you jump in and scout for targets...' Hussman > 'Rgr' Mellarin > 'Dumus you ****in noob I said 'HOLD ON THE GATE' Dumus > erm, oooops.
The past few nights I have been having a blast solo. Attacking cruisers with my Pilgrim at gates with sentry fire really makes the blood pump. Basically I think its the bigger the risk the more scared you get, and I love being scared.
p.s. Kessah pls come back I miss you

The rush stops when you only kill easy targets and there's no risk.
