I saw a thread on why ppl turn into pirates, and i have come to the conclusion it could be part of being famous as well as the risk and the isk.
So name the pirates you love to hate ad lets see who is well known or better still famous.

I think this has been done before - and i think Infamous - maybe a better term :)
Verone imho has been a name whispered with dread with a tinge of jealousy as far back as i can remember , dont believe ive had the pleasure of his customer satisfaction mail mind you but Verone + Piracy + Ur death seems to go hand in hand :)
There are of course many other names too many for me to list of almost equal stature but my vote go's to verone main reason he must be the most well known feared and respected pilot i know.

i dont think many pirates do it for that, probably none tbh
pirating, just like any pvp is for the fun of it for the stalk before hand, the warping in, killing your prey and getting out alive. gets the heart pumping
although these days pirating is very hard with so many stabs and ecm.

Seriously, the only way to get "famous", is either by being a forum-biatch, or by being a part of something crazy.
By killing a lot of people succesfully, doesn't make you notorious, famous, feared or anything - it's all about the ePeen

The fame comes more from forum whoring than from the piracy itself.
The piracy simply creates the basis for the fame: being an honorable pirate with class doesn't do you anything if the only ones who know you are your victims.

Doesn't really work. In a fleet fight, a geddon with 5x 1600mm tungsten, 2x EAN2, and a damage control will last 5-10 seconds at most under concentrated fleet fire.

too true, most "famous" people in Eve, are people that have sucesfully generated an aurora of fame about them on the forums. Once the ground work is done, it self perpetuates itself, as people become hyped up and cross referenced, only increasing their fame.
A couple of friends, some choice alts, and a couple of months dedication, could make anyone famous.

I'll have to vote for Verone as well. Only tangled with him once, and after sending us running had a nice discussion with him in local regarding various ship setups, etc.
I won't go into details of the battle though, lets just say I don't think we gave him much of a fight.

I have been in game maybe 2months have met NONE of the pirates and people of which I would consider famous, I have met some very skilled and well mannered people like Deja and some more from CONIN, I consider a few people like Verone and Skywalker forum famous from what I have read but they are not famous in my heart until I either die or have been defeated by there hands. I hope as my skills progress and I venture into more space I will meat some of these famed people and be able to judge myself against all I have heard. Till then I see none as famous but all as worthy rivals.

I fought more 1v1's against Warchild than I have anyone else ingame... Seems like we both were always trying to camp in 93PI solo.
Warchild and I killed each other several times(I would give myself a slight edge), but what makes me remember him so well is that after the fight... We would both always go back and dock in Saranen, and we would haggle and sell the loot that survived back to the losing party... He also had best tank I ever faced ingame with his Fleet Issue Tempest with GIST loot (Which he later lost to Kr0m but I wasn't present at the time ), I came so close to killing it so many times! The guy had Kahonas to risk ships like that during corp wars etc.
Evil Edna, OfRogue, Cowboy have impressed me as PVPers... I have fought Lord Zap and Fedaykin Naib before too, and was really disappointed with their performance...

Fame ? Thats a bad word, well known is much better to use. you get it for doing a ****load of kills or typing a ****load of posts on the forums.
Those i know in eve, are from the field. either as the one who always gets blow up, or warp away whit stabs. (burn eden) etc.
To be well known is a bad thing imo. It makes it harder to hide in local when every1 knows that, you are up to something.

Pirates like Wild Rho, Drossk, Nova Ivanova, and Rasta Rocketman were 'famous' or at least well known to me long before i started reading forums other than the ship setup section! i'm surprised no one's mentioned them.
And what about Zerander? I'm no one to judge pvp ability, but i do know that he was for a long time the bane of my existence when i was in a northern corp and trying to haul things through lower pure blind. i even started referring to those systems around 0-N8XZ as 'Zeranderland.' -- Why Weirda Wocks No. 5: That is a bad set up

No never heard of any of this forum pirates i am guessing alot of you are using alts to try to be the big shots me thinks. Not intreasted in fourm pirates who think they are cool posting their name with alts.
Lets keep this thread to space pirates and PVP not forums pirates if you want to talk about forum pirates or ur self post your own forum chat.
Name the space pirates you love to hate ad lets see who is well known or better still famous.

im not talking about "carebear blob, 200k with 200ships shooting at same target" warfare, more like small gang warfare up and around 5-10ppl. and no FLEET doesnt mean 200k sniping, a fleet battle means alot of ppl on either side shooting at eachother. its not only long range, a short range fleet battle is much more adrenaline filled then a sissy long range shoot/warp off style battle.

Edited by: Bagehi on 14/07/2006 19:21:00 The pirates I've run across that stand out, and reasons for their infamy are as follows: òVerone - probably one of the best pirates in the game. He isn't indiscriminate like many of the other pirates, and he does tend to be kind to noobs (unless his gang gets bored), so I think part of his recognition is from the people he let go when they were new players. DonÆt take this as heÆs soft, he might let you go, then an hour later pop you. Plus, VETO does a good job of gang fighting, you escape one and seconds later you have 5 more blowing you up. òGinger Magician û it is fairly obvious why he has made this list. (1) He has insane body counts. HeÆll snipe a high traffic gate for an hour and make the pod kills in system sky-rocket. (2) He is THE forum (I guess it doesn't like *****... so I'll say junky). òX13 û canÆt nominate a single player from this corp without nominating most of the rest of them. When a single member of x13 shows up in system, most people dock and wait until they leave. òMot Deduex û if you just finished up training for that battle cruiser or battle ship and happen to be in system when sheÆs around, prepare to die. 6th sense maybe, but she knows when you donÆt have the skills to pilot that ship and shows up in her interceptor to finish you off before you realize what happened. These are only pirates I have seen in action enough times to separate them from random weekend warrior type of pirates. IÆve been in-system to watch or listen to their exploits, or been yet another target in their exploits. This is not an inclusive list, just the ones IÆve run across.

There are of course many other names too many for me to list of almost equal stature but my vote go's to verone main reason he must be the most well known feared and respected pilot i know.
And hes honest to boot. Id have to say verone too. And I'm very glad not to have the satisfaction mail :D

I think when the player count was much smaller it was possible to be famous in Eve. Now, I don't think so.
The names of the people who were famous back then are familiar still, but that isn't the same as the fame they enjoyed.
Let's take TankCEO, for example. Back in his prime he was in/famous People through-out the game had heard of him by word of mouth, not by forum posts. His name was muttered in local, and his location constantly talked about. He was on people's minds, inside their heads. He was famous. (He was also good fun, and very misunderstood )
Now we don't really have that. Eve is becomming increasingly populated, and I guess that somehow serves to dilute the possibility of notoriety.
Sad really - but that's progress.

Pirates ive been impressed with..
1. Carthago/lightstorm basically taught me to pvp, a very calculated pvp'r and a great friend i`ll miss him.
2. V2GBR- 1 of my best eve mates and now an RL friend, always wants a fight and will always speak his mind
3. Death Warrant - Old school pirate now a merc, nice bloke to boot
4. Ed gein/Vampire blade/jebidus/itachi - Apart fromt he fact they cant stay in a corp for more than 5 mins their great guys and very skillful
5. Verone and Veto - Havent fought them but always nice to chat to. Verone used to build me kessies and caracals when he was a miner and I was a noob
6. Trepkos/Kilrock and ANDE - Nice guys shame they are american timezone , good at small gang warfare.
7. Alindyar - dodgy dutchman but you have to love him, another ledgend not playing anymore
8. Cro Ramel - Be very afraid of his 1400mm tempest
9. Tinuk (sp?)- Not sure if he still plays but was a scary scary man
10. Darth Solo - pretends to be a good guy but we all know the truth

You are soooo right, don't forget the handy bonus to in game resists as well. Makes me laugh people quoting 'old school pirate blah'.. well, what does it mean ?. Maybe 'old' as in early in game, or 'old school' as in before CCP nerfed piracy to hell and back. (if you don't see this has happened slowly in last 2 years wake up!)

Edited by: Wizard on 19/07/2006 13:25:18 Im not nomiating tank ceo but i had a very weird thing going on with him back in the day.
We used to not shoot each other, maybe respect or whatever im not sure, was quite amusing.
I cant think of 1 person in game that i genuinly fell to be most famous for pvping, there are many great players of this game.
I do admire some players for there acheivement in eve, recently that being of the establishment as a collective unit for pulling together and creating a nyx mothership without being part of a massive aliance.
I could mention some individual pilots in game who have beaten/killed me in 1v1s but( and no insults intended to them ) the only reason i have ever been beaten in a 1v1 is because of my inability to restrain from engaging even when not fitted for that particular encounter and knowing that its a bad move.....call it a lerroy attitude if you must.
wizard tips hat to all i have battled
I can count on 1 hand the amount of "pirate low sec primarily " players that are any gd in real combat
edited:------ Ive changed my mind, there is indeed 1 person i nominate purly because he was the first person to kill me when i was like 2 weeks old , i was in my bantam and was mining dark ochre in pure blind for giggles and tryed running past lord zap in first bs ( dominix ) i had seen or even heard of in game at time.
