been on eve for about 4 months and every so othen it restarts my machine and when i reboot windows says your system has recovered from a serious error. Since the last two weeks its been crashing 3-4 times a day so far i have not lost anything but come so close today. Does anyone have any ideas as to why i have reinstalled windows XP pro to see if that helps but it has not.

I have the same problem. Haven't lost a ship or anything, but I did lose my options after a recent crash...not debilitating, but definitely annoying to have all my bookmarks but no folders for them, etc. Heh.
I've reinstalled my drivers. I know I need to upgrade my system in other areas, but still, it meets the minimum requirements. I've gotten the "serious error" bit, and when I send a report, it says it is a driver issue.

Hmmm, well this has now started happening to me. I had a few weeks of CTD's, which now seems to have stopped, but from Wednesday 21 June onwards I've now been getting this total crash to pc re-boot. It only occurs early in a session i.e. at log-on or just after and will affect either account (of 2). I will start noting the events more carefully. Ping-plotter shows no PL or errors.

hi
i started playing eve on a trial account today, i find it quite fun, except im having this same issue..my game keeps rebooting my computer every now and again, im not doing anything specific, it just happens at seemingly random times... how can i fix this, i really want to play but its looking like i wont end up being able to pay for my account if the game crashes my system like this all the time.

Im having the same problem. I just installed the trial but the game keeps crashing my system. Won't be paying to play unless I can figure this out. I have no issues with other games and my PC is solid.

On main computer I have a CTD once every few weeks but on my other computer it restarts the whole PC, with the same error message, now this maybe just my machine, but when i read through the error report, it looked like "something" was over heating causing the system to crash at seemingly totally random times. Later i found that a new CPU fan helps, itĘs stopped the crashing, well for a time at least!
I know it can't be over heating for all you guys, but i would think its worth a little check, as EvE is more processor orientated then graphics.
Hope it works out for you all and some type of patch fixes it for good!

I found sudden 'crash to desktop' and spontaneous system rebooting are due to memory timing problems (or in my case bad a spate of bad Corsair DIMM memory). EVE is very memory hungry, more so than other programs and the longer you play the more it seems to occupy.
Memory timings are critical. I found they can even be affected by an average power supply with a slightly fluctuating voltage rail. I installed an Antec True Power 2.0 which I found provide more stable voltage and resolved CTD problems.
The only fix I can suggest is raising the memory timings in your BIOS as to how to do this is DIMM and BIOS specific but it can help. Just take care messing with the BIOS if you are not sure what you are doing. if you speed up the timings (lower the number [see below] rather than raising them) commonly known as overclocking you can make the system more unstable or even unusable until you reset the BIOS on the motherboard.
Generally you'll have 4 numbers involved in memory timing such as 8-4-4-2.5 You'll usually find that the first number is the sum of the second and third numbers. Try raising the first number by 4 (so 8 + 4 = 12 in the example). This actually helps speed up memory on a dual channel configuration (for reasons to in depth to explain here). If this doesn't help, try raising the second number by one and then the third number by 1 (each time keeping the first number equal to 4 + the second + the third). If this doesn't help finally step up the final number 2 -> 2.5 -> 3 is the usual progression. If all this fails and you have an ordinary no name power supply you might want to try swapping it for a better brand name supply that brags about its power stability.

isnt eve 3 years old? my pc is 1 year old and can run the latest games flawlessly and without problems..i dont see why EVE should be any different ? the game runs perfect, very fast, no slowdowns, at best graphics.. it just resets my PC now and again.. i recently applied some AS5 to my processor to help conduct the heat better through the heatsink, not that there was a problem to begin with, just make it more efficient..so i dont think its overheating, when my CPU does overheat (tried overclocking once) it makes a few short beeping noises and my comptuer shuts down completely to stop the CPU from blowing up, but with EVE my pc just restarts, not shuts down permanently..so it cant be heat.

Y'know what - I think You're onto something here...
I'm running a P4 - 3.2GHz Prescott w/ Hyperthreading, An ASUS P4P-800E Deluxe Mobo, Enermax 450W Power Supply w/ Internal Fan, Audigy 2 ZS, 60 GIG Maxtor HD, HP DVD-RW & Toshiba CD-ROM, 2 Case Fans, a CPU Fan and a Lexmark Printer.
I recently started having this Reboot Issue as well and so I thought - "Hmmmmmmmm - I wonder if this is a cooling related Issue ?"
(NOTE: I'd been thinking that another Case fan was probably needed when I built this System)
So I go get a Portable fan and place it behind My PC blowing Cool Air at the back of It - And - Low and Behold...
The above stated - I've not had a Reboot Issue SINCE I placed this fan behind My PC...
It was over-heating for Me and so others may want to try this Fix (Additional Air Cooling) to see if It improves things for Them.
Sincerely and Respectfully,

Edited by: news reporter on 25/06/2006 15:13:58 Edited by: news reporter on 25/06/2006 15:12:25 My computer just started restarting at randomn times as well and i never had this problem before this patch.. I seem to have found sort of a solution. My computer would only restart when I got in battles and if i turned off the sound their would be no disconnects but once the sound of the game was turned on in less then 1 min the computer would restart. I turned off the windows auto restart and got the nice big blue screen of death saying:
BAD_POOL_HEADER
0x0000009 (0x00000020, 0x85EE5000, 0x85EE5928, 0x0B250000)
Unfortunatley I found out how to do this from another forum post but since I took the time to write it down it seems eve left my ship sitting in space with the blue screen, no auto warp out, so it cost me a pretty expensive ship.
But to solve most of your disconnects just play with no sound and it should be ok. I hope they hotfix it though cause it seems like such a shame that it is happening to alot of people since the patch. I doubt that it is a hardware overheating issue because I bought a new power supply and threw in 3 new fans including a high end for my processor and still get restarts. So dont go wasting your money on potential hardware fixes unles you smell stuff burning :P
Well hope cpp fixes it soon but for now I hope they look at my petition. Been playing with no sound and have been disconnect free for about 4 days.

Edited by: Shigsy on 26/06/2006 13:32:12 This happens to me... but only in big battles, wondering if its the same for you guys, Im guessing its due to an overheating pc, so im going out to get some fans and compressed air (to get rid of all that pesky dust).
If this fixes it ill tell you. My pc is running at 70-80 degrees, can you all check yours too? You can use Motherboard monitor to check your temps.
*edit* this just doesn't happen in eve btw, in Silent Hunter 3, whenever i blow up a ship the PC restarts too, and it just randomly does it in Oblivion too, which happens to be a very graphical game which leads me to this conclusion :o

I dwownloaded memmory optomizer and have increased the cooling on my cpu and turned off Audio hardware acceleration and since then i have been able to run two clients and have had nio problems at all with my machine since then i get a little lag of late but so have many other people so im not to worried about that.
If turned the memory optomizer off for a few days to see if its overheating or the audio acceleration that was causing it.
Thanks for the respone guys and girls ---------------------------------------------------

My Temps were running at about 50 Degrees before I started playing EVE but now that I've checked it recently - It was hovering in the low 60s when playing EVE until I put that fan behind it. Now with the fan running - Temps are back where they were in the 50s.

Well... I cleaned out my pc of dust and now the temps are around 45 degrees, tried a complex, and it restarted... Im starting to think this is not due to overheating. It only seems to happen when alot of enemies are on the screen. Im gonna go try update all drivers etc see what happens

Ok! I seem to have gotten it, it appears to be a problem with onboard sounds from what I can gather. SirWOLFE try play with sound off or if you can buy a new soundcard, I just installed an old Sound Blaster Live! and it seems to be working fine now (didn't crash doing a complex whereas it used to crash ALWAYS)

For *ALL* Eve-Restarting errors turn off the game audio first. In most cases (mine included) this solves the problem. At least three of my corp-mates and I have all had this crashing problem since the last patch, so have dozens of other threads on this topic going back for the last month. So I politely say ignore Mandrake when he says buy a new graphics card and try stopping audio first, that's solved most cases. Inter

I was having the same problem...what I did to correct it was to set Windows XP to not restart automatially after an error occurs. Since I have done this, I have had zero problems running Eve...even with sound on.

Disabling audio from the EVE menu worked for me, however i'd like to hear my missiles booming happily away
what is this audio acceleration and how would you disable it? I see no EVE options relating to it so I assume it is to do with your sound card.

Depending on youe version of windows u need to go to your control panel select sound click on advaanced setting and where it says audio hardware acceleration turn it off. You may need to flick few a few other menus but it will be there some where ---------------------------------------------------

Well people. After reading all these lines I ve come to realize that Im not the only poor guy who suffered the loss of ships in battle due to crashes. So far: 1 Megathron - 1 Brutix - 2 Thorax. Too much money and too much time. Seems, obviously, that in my case the crashes occur in places infested with ships. Lot of work for all the components of the machine. So far I ve tried the sound thing, modifiying the prefs.ini and nothing. Lowering the graphics to the lowest and still the same problem. Checked temperatures, all ok. Whats left, power supply and memory. If that fails... Little box . CPU inside . Air Ticket . Looooong Flight . And Hello Eve Developers .
Greetings From Argentina and thanks for the info.
4 months Playing and loving it.
