A list of ideas for POS's that have come to mind.
Backstory: While talking with a few friends about POS mechanics, gameplay and usage, we came to some points thet we tought were somehwat illogical in how a POS works. So we started debating on how these points could be improved to have a much more interesting and somewhat realistic gameplay. After some discussion I came to a conclussion on 2 ideas that look good, so now I'm looking for feedback.
Ideas list:
1) POS's modules unanchoring
- Unanchoring POS modules after bashing the control tower should give you everything inside the modules. - Destroying the module (as it works now) may drop some loot (that wasn't destroyed). - Unanchoring the module will give all of the loot.
The logic states that you anchor a module, "Personal Hangar Array" for example, and then you put items inside. Following the reverse logic is to remove the items safely and then unanchor the module.
Now a mechanic could be added, since the module is owned by an enemy corp, it could have some kind of defensice system to protect the items from non-corp members.
A "Hacking" like mechanic could be used where you have to "hack" the module to get the items safely. - If you fail to hack the module then it could blow off and you lose both the itmes and the module. - Or after you hack it and start taking out items, a "self-destruct" timer starts and the items start being destroyed randomly, or the whole module blows off. - Or... (any other ideas?)
2) Claiming Control Towers
- New ship module: "Boarding Party Pod Launcher" BPPL Basically you get in range of a Control Tower and start deploying pods from your ship that contain soldiers, crew, etc.
They'll attempt to claim the Control Tower. Might fail a couple times and the better the skills the faster and higher chances they have to claim it.
Working prototype: - 2.500 meters maximum distance from the tower to deploy the pods. - Little animation of the pod slow boating to the tower and anchoring to it. - If it fails the pod returns. (Just animation, you don't get the pod back) - The pod acts like ammo, fails and you need to load another one into the "BPPL" to start the claim again. - Since its a physical (boarding) and not digital (hacking) attempt to claim the Control Tower, a longer time is needed, maybe in a couple of minutes. 5-10, depending on level. - As said, success chance depending on level too.
So far those are the most developed ideas I worked. I'm sure if I give it some tought I can come up with a couple more.
If I come up with more I'll add them here.
Let the feedback fest begin! |

I like and fully support the idea that a POS should be capturable in some sense. I generally favor the ideas floating that requires hacking of the tower itself followed by a cool down period of a few days with notification to the true owner to allow them to try and re-claim the tower by on lining it. If unchallenged then the hacker can claim the POS and any modules there by onlining it themself.
I like the idea of boarding PODs, but think they should be usable in high sec only if there is a war dec. Otherwise it would make taking POSes trivial rather than tactical and strategic.
Definitely would like to be able to capture all the contents of a POS module on capturing/hacking it when unanchoring following a POS bash or POS boarding. |

I have a problem with any mechanism that trivialises capturing such expensive assets with relatively little effort. Sure we need something done about offline towers cluttering up space but making a tower capturable within 10 minutes completely bypassing all shield/armour/hull? That's too easy in my opinion. |

if pos is offline for more than 1 month it should be hackable with hardest minigame it can be , if you success you gain control over the pos and modules around it and either you can fuel it to use the pos or unanhor and sell if you like |

If this was implemented, thoes of us that live in J-Space would make a killing, and I am fine with that.
Though In saying that I would make a few changes:
- The 1 month timer like Amak Boma suggested untill it becomes "Vulnerable".
- The 'offending' player then hacks/infiltrates the POS with some new module.
- On success, A timer then starts (24 hours maybe)
- The owner of the POS is sent a message.
- The owner can stop & reset the timer by being on-grid and interacting with the POS in some way.
- The offender will then have to re-hack/infiltrate the POS to restart the timer
- Upon completion of the timer, the ownership of the POS and all its mods is handed over to the 'offender'.
Should keep corps that slap a POS up on every moon in a system happy. And those of us that are happy to wait can make some easy money. AFK Cloaking Thread summary - Provided by Paikis

I like the hole boarding thing. I think it would be cool to take control of a POS for your self. With that I have wonted some sort of boarding mechanic in the game as in my mined it would make the game that much more realistic in a sense. |

not a bad idea.
i think it can work in a vay of installing a virus and then waiting 24/48/72h till virus completely takes over it. with notification to the owner to come and try clearing it out.
this way you wont beable to take hard work of someone but relatively easily take abendoned poses.
the idea of taking the loot (partial.. i'd think of having a % of successfuly taking out each item depending on its size).. i like that |
