Hi,
did this mission this morning. When the guy claimed to be innocent, I unfortunately still shot him down (in dubio contra reo...) as asked in the mission description - it was a Storyline mission after all ("Sir, just following orders, SIR!"). Well, of course the guy WAS innocent. Still got my reward, but now I ask myself what would have happened if I had let him go? Has anyone of you tried that?

Haven't tried that yet but I will the next time I get it - if no one else posts an answer to this question before that.

If he claims he is innocent, you can end your attacks, return and the mission agent reviews your report and confirms he is innocent. Mission completed.
If he is guilty, he admits it and proceeds to attack you. Kill him, return to the mission agent, get your reward.
Either scenerio works. _______________________________________________

Yes, now I know that too, but I wonder if there is any difference after the completion. Killed while innocent still gets me my full promised reward. So, what happens if you let him go? Bonus reward? Or only the warm fuzzy feeling of having saved a innocent soul?

I think I read somewhere that if you kill the innocent agent, you donŠt get the standing increase.

No, I got even that. 3.5% Standing increase, around 300k ISK Mission and Time reward (lvl2) - the whole package. Is there indeed no difference if you kill him or not?

Ive let him live once or twice before and i got a very nice boost to standings (dont know if its different but out of the storylines i usually get i was a large one).

Had this mission alot, as far as i know theres no diffrence if you kill him or not for standing / payment, not 100 % sure though. So what do gain if you let him alive ? -> Just imagine: this guy left behind his family and kids to work for Caldari State, under big danger to be discovered as Caldari agent by the evil Gallentes. He is risking his life every day to get some imporant information, which might be helpful for all of us Caldaris. And then, one day, due to a stupid mistake, that storyline agent sends a killer (you) to kill him, only becaus that storyline agent didn't investigate the issue well. So you would kill that loyal Caldari who loves the Caldari State, for a mistake. His lovely wife would lose her husband (ironically you would use "widowmakers" to kill that agent), his children would grow up without a daddy - only because you don't give that agent a chance to prove his innocence ? Don't you think that are enough reasons to leave him alive and review his issue ? It's "In dubio PRO reo", not "contra reo".

Yeah, well, you see, I am Gallente, so if your story is true I was perfectly right in blowing him up... Ok, so it seems the only drawback I have is the ethical one. Well, I'll know better next time. "In dubio pro reo" in this game would only be possible if I can take the guy with me alive, so that he would be still available if not innocent. After all, what did the Romans know about legal subtleties in space...

i did not kill him and got 16+% standing increase for the corp (can't recall for caldari state), it was the lvl3 version

I'd generally agree, however...think about this. If you are a double agent, and the other side sends a guy who wants to kill you for your misdeeds. What will you do? I would probably try to make up some story of how I was innocent and stuff :)
As was said above, without a way to keep the guy there or have him coming with you to the station, or a clear message window popping up saying "You look at the agent's info and find he's innocent", it is hard to decide for the right way. Perhaps EVE breeds a climate of mistrust. Anyway, I also killed him and felt bad about it afterwards...because in general I live by "in dubio pro reo".

Edited by: Hockston Axe on 24/06/2006 22:44:33 Edited by: Hockston Axe on 24/06/2006 22:38:16 I had this one at lvl 2 and had the version where you let him live and got 8.25% increase to the corp and 3.3% to faction standings. (huge and huge, so no positive size modifier) I'll see a variation of standings even when it's the same lvl and agent for a storyline, but not on the lines of double, so it would seem there is some penalty for killing an innocent man. Unless the 3.5% you mentioned was for faction, in which case I guess they don't care if he lives or dies.

Ive found some times he spawns in the last group and attacks you with the rest, while other times he appears at the end by himself and proclaims innocence. Seems to be multi-ended to me.
