Main advantage is the addition of a geometry processor for things like displacement mapping without using presampling,and adding more flexibility in the remaining units within a DX10 compliant architecture,in such a way to reduce the number of API calls(read software overhead),when rendering a specific effect on screen... That's where the main performance improvement comes from relative to DX9 and current hardware,not from the use of vista per se...Of course microsoft will market that in such a way as being vista itself that's responsable for the performance improvement,but that's a given with them.. Current videos showing upcoming games are all still running on DX9 hardware since DX10 hardware doesn't exist yet,and since some of those are almost finished and supposedly released by the end of the year(Crysis),the only thing you might see is the game using the DX10 API instead of DX9(assuming vista is out by then),and with that change,likely running better in terms of FPS if you're using a DX10 card as well,but it doesn't look any different than with DX9,since the entire game artwork was first created with DX9 anyhow... I believe the rate at wich games will specifically require a DX10 card to visually look better than what they could with DX9,using the extra features that go above and beyond what DX9 can do,will still take quite a long time to happen....Look at the 9700 pro example for instance,wich was released in august of 2002 and was the first DX9 card on the market,and incidently it was Far cry the first game that actually used DX 9 features extensively,but was only released in the summer of 2004,where card makers were already on their 3rd generation of DX9 cards(X800's from ATI and Nvidia's 6800 series had just been released)... Worst comes to worst,i might pick up a second card once prices drop a lot more and driver + motherboard bios support is added for some Quad SLI insanity...
