Edited by: Semblence on 25/06/2006 21:34:31 Ok I stand corrected, but I think the move had broken down by the time the ball went out.
But the point still stands - they put the ball out, they get attention to their keeper. Seems a fair exchange, so Dutch are entitled to keep the ball.
What should have happened is that the ref should have said "This is a proper drop-ball and I expect both of you to challenge for it." Instead Figo did not challenge for it and complained.
But refs can't tell players what to do unless it's in the rules, and giving the ball back is not in the rules at the moment (nor should it be).

No. Replay/Rewind every damn match so far, everybody was giving the ball back to the team who threw it out.

- lost Ronaldo to what should have been red card tackle - portugal plays with 10 - dutch numptie doesn't return the ball to portugal after that break, and gets brought down. - if deco got yellow for holding that ball, the guy who threw him on the ground should at least get yellow. - Van Basten packs home for being a hardass and not letting Ruud play (Kuyt? WTF?)
QFT ,and i'am portuguese and the op is like their team full of steam and will get banned ,and we still won .
I'm from Holland, and got a question for you:

how many things in EVE are legal, but "lame?"
Not giving the ball back to the side that put it out is likewise. It's *allowed*, but if you want anybody to like you, you won't do it. ________________________________________________

Well yeah I know, but that's what I'm arguing against.
There was that huge confusion involving the Czechs (I think) where both teams kept giving the ball back to each other, for precisely the same reason: ie -
Side A puts the ball out to get attention to their own player. They give up possession and get an advantage in return - so it's even.
The ref should make clear - it's a drop ball and it's a genuine drop ball, both of you compete for it damn you!
Come on Tuxford, have a go at balancing this! Eve is easy in comparison.

Well it's not like holland didn't do anything wrong...
Also you didn't get a red card for pulling in a shirt when the opposite team just did it against you three times in a row (damn germans! )
And the refs have been very wierd this year, I agree.
Also it feels lovely to see holland beaten since they kicked us out of the Euro Cup two years ago

I got to agree, a controversy like this was always coming. Just like Eve, if it's exploitable, it will be exploited.
And just when it looked like international football had learnt a bit of collective responsibility and "honour"! Oh well.

Trouble is, it usually will only happen towards the end of a game where the other team is one goal down, and you don't get a chance to do it back to them.
Don't worry, England are going to make Portugal look silly in the next round (sorry Portugeese fans), Rooney is back in business!

Didn't say they play better, just want them to win.
It's arbitrary, it's pointless, it's usually futile. Guess what? It's sport.

most prominent with football, at least over here. in other sports there are teams not affiliated with countries/towns occasionally, and there are some solo sports as well.

True it will be tough, but "pound-for-pound" England look better, and Sven has all his options on the bench but Portugal are 2 good players down (at least).
The pace and variety England can introduce in the last quarter of the game is going to be the ace up Sven's sleeve.
(..goes off to see what the bookies make of it)
