So I go afk in my battleship in empire sometimes. in asteroid belts and spawns then come back and collect cans and isk from the npcs that spawn and shoot at me. Im not selling the isk, its being saved for me and a friend. So far the only thing I think im guilty of is going afk at a spawn. Coming back from being afk awhile ago some guy in local said that he petitioned me for being afk.
Is being afk at a spawn a petitionable offence?

Half the players in most MMOG would be banned for idling/afking.

no not petitionable, unless you use a macro to kill the rats while you are not there.....
bit of a daft thing to do tho' or get used to........ as suicide ganking makes no-one safe...

This is entirely a medical issue. If you don't AFK in Eve at least 1/2 the time, then I think you've probably had a minor stroke in your frontal lobes and should go and see your consultant for a scan.

I guess it depends - if youre shooting the rats while being AFK (which is only possible with 3rd-party macro programs), it is a bannable offense. If you come back to shoot the rats and actually do the combat while being at the computer, its within the rules.
The rule of thumb is: If you advance your character (by collecting loot, shooting rats for bounties, gaining resources through mining etc.) you have to be at the keyboard. Your character is not allowed to gain anything while AFK - obviously excluded from this rule are skill point gain, market sell or buy orders and all other systems that work while youre offline.

Mining afk is allowed , until you use a macro to move the ore for you. Hunting is the same way. As long as you are pushing the buttons , and not using a program to help you , you are OK.

Hmm, if you take from one of the loot cans he's leaving lying around - won't his drones attack you? Meaning you can open up on him?
If he's going afk and coming back to kill the spawn thats attacking him he's safe.
If he's using something to lock up and kill npcs as they appear - oops, only a matter of time until they read that petition, read logs, and ban you.

I AFK mine all the time, never been petitioned.
Obviously be aware that people bump/hump/shoot you though.

Actually, not a bad idea this. The only worry is the drone AI. Will your drones automatically attack a player who loots your cans?

No, it's not pettionable. But it can get you killed.
All you really need is someone fitted for PvP. He loots one fo your cans, he flashes Red to you, and your drones go after him. When the drones hit, you are fair game, and he can destroy your ship.

The drones won't engage over can flagging thankfully.
So the OP could be killed by a suicide gank or if he returns to the keyboard, sees a flashing red ship and opens up.
This however leaves loot thieves absolutely free to act - scoop every can his kills leave and make himself a good amount of cash in loot.
The other risk is that npcs tend to like shooting at drones so it's always possible that the rats will kill all of them and he'll come back to the keyboard to find himself in an egg - not likely in Empire but a faction spawn is always a possibility.

What do you think i was saying last year when i responded to all those macro posts...
They allowed to the fear/paranoia culture to flourish.... making it worse with forum modes giving course of actions to inflict against players to simpley 'harrass' what are inocent players... making it more worse with gm's making grand statements about macro busting on top of the forum inciting it further....
Now if they are swamped under with petitions like this... how can they complain:/

I made it very clear last year.
Telling people to go around bumping people... suiciding them because they belive there cheating, targeting individuals with no other intent but to ruin their day because of the belief they are cheating.
It's not in the spirt of the game at all, it shouldn't be happening... nor should it be incited on that basis.
Yet it was..
The only course of action should have been for the player to report and ccp's gm's to deal with it behind closed doors..... not allow it to be fested on the forums.
This happens with every other petitionable issue when it starts getting talking about on the forum.... sadly this was one that was allowed to continue....
Hence you get petitions like the op describes, and responces like 'petition him back' then somebody like deja seeing the end result of it all...

Suicide gunkĘs are not a problem as thatĘs very easy to defend against even when AFK. I have done the same in my Domi before on the Massive attack mission where the rats spawn very fast. Even when the rats shoot the drones the drones kill the rat long before any real shield damage is taken.

Absolutely. The GMs also punish not logging in and playing for more than 2 days in a row within a 2 week period with a ban for 13 weeks plus remove all your assets.
