Hmmm. I yesterday bough a new frigate, but that shop offers poor services... They do not allow me to paint my ship individually.
Idea: At any time, it should be possible to set the texture attributes for each ship in many various ways: - straight colors - individually colorizable patterns - finish attributes such as metallic, glossy, dull, pearl, silk - ambient lights areas on hull like some deep-sea fishes
This way, the ship can look more individual. The more, as individual parts of the ships can be accessed (wings, hull, etc.) Corporations, empires or individualists can have their own color code. This feature should have various settings to enable a high level of individualism.
Greetings,
Sven

In early EVE Beta, there was a ship paint tool but it got canned for logistical reasons. But who knows in the future :)

painting ships in eve would take it down the road that UO went... i.e. carebear lane where everything is neon or blaze orange.

Guys - keep in mind that: wea have already a similar-working feature in EVE: the corporation logo design tool. Just different attributes where you easily can assign colors. Something similar I have in mind for the individual ship painting tool.
Easy to handle, using only presets, fast, good results. That I wanttfor ships, too. That would make the ships much more interesting to look at, and would allow corporations to use their individual color sets for their member's ships. And many other advantages!
Best greetings,
Sven

Let CCP sort the lag , we come up with the ideas, They implement them. Lag is never a reason to get rid of an idea.
Onto the paint jobs Ideas. its good. ive suggested it before.
What I d like to see is Corp Colour Schemes or tags etc... You can opt to fly with your ship in corp colours or standard colours. Then if you steal another corps ship while its in corp colours it would be cool

I dunno about individual paint jobs. seems like that would make lag worse. how about customizable corporate paint jobs? with simplified corp emblems instead of faction emblems?

This thread reminded me of this
I'm sure devs have better things to do than worrying about customisable ships' colours...

i seem to remember reading this feature was already coded into the game but not 'activated' i guess i read wrong at the time or its as tsunari said it got canned. u can already paint them but only u can see it. there was a tool on eve-i when it was around (bring tht site bk) which allowed u to unpack ur .stuff file or something and u could edit the ships from there and repack the file and whalah u got a thorax type-R
either tht or ive been on some funny drugs and imagined it all

yeah, but modding the .stuff files is against the EULA...

Because I just thought of this idea and I didn't want to rehash the idea in a new topic, I figured I'd bump this and add maybe a standard alliance color layout that is preset for the alliance and if you so choose you just select alliance paint and therefore there is no discrepancies.(sp)

1. You don't send the texture files. That would cause lag. It would also give too much freedom to let people draw their own textures...we don't want people pasting pictures of their their fav anime chars or large phalluses on their ships.
2. We want ships painted in a realistic way. For the most part this does not mean a paint job like a car with bright colors and racing stripes. At least not in EVE. Rather, I imagine a ship would have a simple logo on it's wing, for example.
3. You could just put the corp logo on the wing, then.
4. You'd be the only person who sees it anyway...ships are too small to really notice the details on other peoples' ships unless you are specifically "looking at" them close up which is rarely. Heck, it could be player-side only lol.

Just logos? No, not enough. XDLogos AND textures/paintings: yes, that is fine. And not much different to what is already now.

I like the other idea (the newer one found at http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=439383 ) better. Probably more thought out too.

Notice all ships have parts that can be described as "trim". The caldari ships are obvious, they have flaking red trim (apperantly they buy their paint from GM) If you look at amarr ships, they have portions of differnt color metal, some of those qualify as "trim". In any even, every ship should have this, and the color of it should be choosable,by corp. In other words, you choose your corporate color, and all ships have a small bit of that on them, for instance, green stripes instead of red on caldari ship. Certain parts of an amarr ship would have the same color etc.
In addition, each ship should display its corps logo. This would eliminate the problem with bright orange ships with purple trim while allowing some customization. The fact is,if you let the players choose what color their ships are, they will look like $#@!. By allowing only the choice of a color for a small part, any color will work fine, from bright green to purple to dayglow orange.
This could be easily handled without extra server side lag. When a client was first started, the color definitions for trim, and the corp logos would all be downloaded and stored client side. Every time someone changes a logo,or a color, that would be dated in the db. When a client logged in,it would tell the server when it last updated, the server would then send all updates since then. When I ship was displayed, its corp standing is know client side (thats how we know to kill it or not). The client would know to put the logo on the ship and display its trim in the right color. This of course would increase client side lag on a slower machine, however, there could easily be a option to turn it off.
Im not suggesting this is the best way,but its a workable way,and the devs are better at this than I am,so if I can come up with something workable, they sould be able to come up with something clever and efficient.

I'd like to see emblems blazed on my ships, rather than repainting or refinishing, god amarr would lose their only advantage ><
A corp logo style 3 or 4 layered image with presents, wouldn't create too much lag and would look quite good if positioned right.
As for simply putting the corp logo on the side like CCP suggested I'm not too keen on that, your corp logo may not fit with the colour scheme of the ship, especially if you have players from more than one race in your corp. ---------------------------------------- Proposed new ship class |
