CCP, I recommend you divert resources from the naming department to other things; these names are far too creative & obscure for us simple gamers. Who makes these things up/finds these? Did someone actually sit down and just go to work finding these?
(On a serious note, the naming conventions for everything in this game make me happeh)
System names are auto-generated by a rather cunning algorithm which I believe builds up words randomly based on specific racial language "thingies". Region names are I believe all hand-picked; the drone regions were actually named largely based on player input. Ship names are all names of a real thing (Hel, for example, is one of the old Norse gods). Expansion names are the result of about three months of arguments every time :P
If region names are hand picked I would love to meet the joker who renamed the JK-FIX to Querious..... I mean come on , really, You used to be able to say yeah I was down in the fix now ......

I've heard there is a system called Vaajaita, I'm really keen to pilot my Thorax into it but so far I've only managed to push up as far as Ainalle. I'm hoping I'll be able to nudge up the Vaajaita pipe soon. Don't get me started on Cumemare - that's just disgusting. |

Gallente feature all sorts of mythologies. Taranis is a celtic deity for an example and there are a fair few ancient Babylonian and Sumerian gods in there as well such as the Ishtar. They are not strictly bound to Greek mythology although it features prominently.
Minmatar feature Norse mythology heavily, but also various cutting weapons (Claymore, Scythe, Broadsword) and ferocious animals (Wolf, Jaguar). Not to mention weather phenomena (Cyclone, Tornado, Tempest).
Caldari also includes some mythological beasts, such as the Chimera, Wyvern and Manticore.

It is very funny to see the good names, like we are reading an ancient book. And they are all translated well for Chinese client, many familiar gods name from western countries, wild animals which make you feel blood burning and raising fighting will. Nice job, CCP |

actually, Luminaire is more the lamp then the light in it. Verge is also a Yard in english.. Botane is not a french word in itself, but I guess it can be related to Botanic, which relate to nature things. |
