Emphyran Age (Or however you spell that)
Bei
Venal
Amarr, Minmatar, Gallente & Caldari
Ferox
Hel
etc, etc............
Seriously wtf.
CCP, I recommend you divert resources from the naming department to other things; these names are far too creative & obscure for us simple gamers. Who makes these things up/finds these? Did someone actually sit down and just go to work finding these?
(On a serious note, the naming conventions for everything in this game make me happeh)

Well actually some system names are fracking awesome when you think about, tons of references, personal references from dev's to whoever but hte fact is that many system names just make you think "who the hell thought about this..."
It's interesting from my point of view, is it interesting for my personal culture or education? -sure not but I like the idea of those references and would like to know more about those.
It's also somehow the easiest and the most humble way to show some interest for "this" game, but it's just my opinion. |

And the forum just ate a couple paragraphs of passable in-game related humor regarding pronunciation of Gallente systems in fleet.
Also pronunciation of the enemy fleets in our systems. I love tuning in. |

They didn't actually name everything. Got bored of naming things around about the time they had to name all the nullsec systems. They did manage to give a few planets names tho. We should feel lucky that we got as much as we did. ;D |

You know, since it's french pronouncing means some hate/bad taste humour etc.
Don't worry, most are used to, and for some like me who deal with many english native clients this makes me laugh since you can't find any other poor level of any sort of language than an english native being terrible already at his own native language. Simple fact, but a simple truth.

System names are auto-generated by a rather cunning algorithm which I believe builds up words randomly based on specific racial language "thingies".
Region names are I believe all hand-picked; the drone regions were actually named largely based on player input.
Ship names are all names of a real thing (Hel, for example, is one of the old Norse gods).
Expansion names are the result of about three months of arguments every time :P |

did you know that POITOT is the only named system in Syndicate? The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

This. I recall reading a dev blog way back when where this was explained. I have some hazy recollections that the same algorithm/system/program actually was used to also decide the number of planets, moons, belts, and stations in systems and also the connections between systems.
I believe the "thingies" you're referring to are called syllables. ;)

I KNEW that had to be the case! Some of the damned system names are pretty much unpronounceable because they have awkward extra letters thrown in that make. I assumed they were either some sort of icelandic weirdness or random generated. |

Coincidence? A bunch of the Caldari names mean something in Finnish but I don't think there's any conspiracy to be found behind it all.
