The original post started off fine, but you just had to ruin it by throwing in some Linux zealotry BS. Oh well.
I had the idea that the card game could be integrated into the game as something to do while waiting, and the collectable cards could be added to loot and rewards. Of course, the virtual cards would be tradable in game as if they were normal items. That would be pretty fun. _________________________________________________________

hell couldnt they do something along the lines of putting a special "code" in each card pack, you type into the game and it basically adds that card pack you purchased in the store, into your characters collection in game? from there the cards could be traded to other players etc etc and each code could only be used once... (of course there could always be rare cards only found in game or whatnot if people want to do that too) This would be a REALLY cool idea imo, just having the card game, IN GAME in general sounds cool to me. Something to do when idling in station ; p

It should only be done ingame, as far as I'm concerned.
As others have said before, Eve is a niche game. The chances of me buying the cards, and finding anyone nearby to play against.
Now, if it were to draw new players into the game, then it could be a nice addition, but it's not something I'm going to run out and buy unless it becomes a popular CCG.

There should honestly be Casino's, lotto's, Texas Hold'em tournaments in game, etc...
Not player run, but run by NPC's...
Can you imagine a high stakes poker game between players waging their ships etc?
That would be so cool...

The big problem with that, of course, is that since some people buy isk for real cash, this would likely run afoul of Internet gambling laws in varous countries and jurisdictions. My state just passed a ban on Internet gambling...it's possible the ban would apply to Eve.

Damn...
When the hell can we get an MMO where "credit" selling is not a problem?
It ruins everything... ------------------------------------------------ Current Hobby other than EVE

It is not legal to sell isk for cash so there would be no problems what so ever with any state or country law.
There are no 2 ways about it, it is not legal to sell isk for cash and so no law that prevents gambling would apply. Just as when you play cards on yahoo for points.

And there are MMO's, like 2nd Life, where selling items for RL cash is not only encouraged, but the way the game is designed.

Edited by: Malthros Zenobia on 27/06/2006 16:57:12 Adding the CCG to EVE sounds like a horrible idea tbfh.
I'd rather see small 'gaming' things, like a mini-casino, or a 'bar' you can 'enter' like in freelancer, where you get news feeds (even if the feeds don't mean anything for pod-pilots). Coding the CCG, and the cards into EVE would just delay Kali and other features even more.
PEople shoudl realize that EVE the CCG won't just be something limited to EVE players.
HOPEFULLY CCP decides to promote it to CCG sellers in the US and Europe. If they do, then non-EVE players may get interested in it as well as the EVE MMO. If they just sell it from the eve-online website, that'll be a waste of a possibly good product.

As long as my pilot avatar doesn't sound like Ian Ziering and they code in a little more conversation variants it would be good for station atmosphere if nothing else...

I like the idea of adding something to do at the station but the card game has been done to much, maybe we should add things more in key with the actual game, maybe a virtual battle area where u can make up a ship and fight in it vs. people in the station and have bets for credits like a gladiator ring but virtual so none actually losses a ship and looses isk except to enter the ring, kind of like the battle ring in mechwarrior merc's. There could be bars and drinking contests and people could watch the matches through video screens. Maybe ccp should design there own futuristic pass the time game maybe a mix of a card game but very much in the future.

I like all the ideas said in this thread. Ingame casino's. A bar to go into. Ingame card game. But if the cardgame is ONLY ingame. Then it isn't doin much to attract people to eve. If im playing a physical version of it at my local comic town. Some people might overlook it and get interested in eve. Hell, im willing to do some advertising for eve that way. Ill throw on my eve shirt and bring my e-ons with me. :)
And THANK YOU SO FRIGGIN MUCH for posting a link for those icons. It helped me out. ALOT.

Originally by: Nianfur Now anyone who says that its a stupid idea and would end up just been another way to buy isk is forgetting one important thing, CCP is a company and a company is there to make money. If one in 10 packs have 10M isk in them then CCP could sell 10 packs of cards. Good money I would think.
To quote myself from another thread:
Quote:
But please never add special cards with keys that give you an in-game item. I think that was planned for a wow card game about 1 year ago, don't know if they did it. I'm not 15 anymore and not gonna spend hundreds of dollars for collector cards just to eventually get the code for a Titan.

Are you sure it's not legal? I'd say that's a rather grey area. It's against the rules and I think it's bad for the game, but illegal I'm not sure about. Then there's the added questions of illegal according to whose laws? and further, whose gambling laws?

This is something that would be incredibly awesome if added to the game!
Final Fantasy XI had the Tetra Master card game but the problem was that it wasn't actually apart of FFXI. It was another seperate game you added another monthly fee for. Tons and tons of people I knew that played had wished that it was apart of the main game.
Please do something like this, CCP! :) -------- Get over it. (TM) |

For what it's worth, I would play the hell out of any CCG in-game in EVE. As someone else pointed out, FFXI had this going on but as a seperate game (Dollar/month fee).
I speak as someone who loves CCGs, and really.. considering the economics of such a thing, it would feel very natural in EVE. (Though I look forward to people getting ganked for their cards. :D)

Personally, I'd love this because:
A. It would give people that extra something to do during long mining runs and such
B. You could gamble ISK, or items or even ships on who would win.
I loved the card games in Final Fantasy 8 and 9, plus there's a card game in Knights Of The Old Republic - they have no proper bearing on the game but add to the feeling of an alternative society and their hobbies.

If I were the Devs at CCP I wouldn't put anything into the game which might even hint at being gambling where real money could get involved (through isk buying/selling) otherwise next time they fly to the US for some games convention they could find themselves all being marched off the plane by the DOJ like the CEO of Betonsports the other day. Then we'd all be up s**t creek with the Devs in jail.

Yes, it is in fact LEGAL to buy in game product.
Please don't confuse the LAW with CCPs RULES. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________ |

Than it must be LEGAL for me to sell your dinnerware to someone else for me. Since players do not own anything in EVE, all data is owned by CCP, is selling what someone else owns still LEGAL?
Selling is wrong, buying is even worse. Defending either is the worst.
As to the OP. You want a system where items are dropped in game and you can trade them or sell them in game and try to collect entire sets? Like, oh I dunno.. modules or implants? Mini games are fine in some cases, and sure if we had stations and planets I'd fully expect some type of in game mini-games, but a collection game is just another ISK and time sink I'm afraid. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | Visual Building Guide (Both work in game too!) |
