If ccp grows half a brain and installs the card game into eve, then not only will people stay for longer even more people will join and I guarantee that within 10 months that there will be atleast 1 million active players.
Ohter games have done this before for example "might and magic 7" had a great card game that added flavour to that game.
This is what EVE needs something new inside it
Or for example a beting service. For example make up some sport on some planets. The sport itself is not important but the abillity to bet is. For example have different teams and have them play which each other and then post who won. And let people bet on who will win.
Such small things would add atleast 10% new players and keep players playing for longer.
But installing the card game into eve would sky rocket subscription and keep players active for a very long time. The more things you can do and the more different they are, the longer people stay.
But since ccp uses windows-based-server-software when linux could do twice as much at half the cost then i do beliEVE that such an idea is beyond ccp limited way of thinking.

I agree... card games have been done to death, but integrated minigames have not. Big coolness factor.
There is too much competition in the card game market to really roll in profit with something that is not well known in the card gamer community. Magic : The Gathering was successful because it was one of the first, Yu-Gi-Oh because it brought a whole new group of TV kids into the market. I doubt many Eve gamers are also interested in card games.
But if ingame cards could be traded for ISK, and dropped by spawns... how cool would that be. People might even pay a little bit extra for it.

the card game would only be good if it's online. eve isn't big enough to find competion in real life for alot of us. adding it ingame or online somehow would not only raise sales by alot, it would make eve alot more fun too.

I dont know about haveing spawns droping cards. As I see it the cards would be sold exactly the same way as normal but then again...
You can buy a pack for X amount of isk each pack has a certain amount of random cards and you need so and so many to play.
The only problem would be how much should a pack be sold for.
For example a "planetary vehicle" costs 3750 isk http://www.eve-online.com/itemdatabase/tradegoods/consumerproducts/9846.asp
So a pack of cards wouldnt cost more then a few isk BUT
This would mean that everyone would be able to mass buy cards and get the rare and special ones without any problems
But if you look at eve for what it is you can see that a much higher price can be justified.
Since we eggers are at the very top of the food chain, we are the super rich, the nobility the people far and beyond the masses. A higher price can be excepted for our luxuries.
Since we can not only purchase and build but also fly huge ships on our own. Which for any normal citizen of eve is impossible and even for some gouverments. It can only be logical that we the very very very few and the very very very rich should also spend alot on our extravagant games.

I love the way you use the word "guarantee". I take it that you have the finances to pay for these accounts for the period that Eve will still be around should this claim be proven wrong?

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 27/06/2006 08:43:13 If Eve gets an integrated card game, self-respect will demand I leave forever, so no.
Although, I have to say that seeing the servers crumble under '1 million active players' who joined to play a card game would be amusing.
Edit: For clarity: Worst idea ever ---------- Throwing ships away doing stupid things since April '06 |

I'd go for some multiplayer mini-games in station, but nothing that effects the game outside station. Would be nice to beat some enemies at chess or cards, while they are afraid to undock.

Imagine that without sharding...
2 ppl sitting in a station in low sec space, playing a card game, not paying attention to local.
One player has a major advantage, and it's just a matter of time until he wins - and then, out of nowhere, they both get beaten badly by a group of pirates that have decided to join in on the fun

I used to love playing Space-Roulette and Space-Slots in the SWG cantinas. Best part of the game IMO. But they took them out(have possibly put them back then taken them out again and again ad nauseum) because extremely few people used them. So yeah, some sort of isk betting games in stations gets a /signed here, but don't expect 5000% more subs.

Something to do besides redecorating the inside of my hangar during lockdown would be nice. However, how many people undock and PvP, rather than die of boredom? Not that many I think, as most have alts to goof off on while waiting out an enemy. I don't want to play a card game ( megathron, I choose you!), but in-station texas holdem...... Yea, I really don't want to play Eve-PokFmon to be honest. I don't even really see how the collectible card game itself adds to the experience of someone who is simply not into buying cards and building decks. The only thing that would ever interest me about that game is reading tidbits of lore and seeing cool artwork, but I'd never buy them just for that.

You just have to make it on the global scale.
Like an interstellar virtual casino in EVE, where you can play all sorts of various casino games..
Hell i would love to play hold'em all day in EVE, and i do think that having such a service accessible globally from every station of EVE would prove to be quite popular.
Hell, since the casino profits from all gambling, it can be seen as an ISK sink as well, drawing ISK out of the game :) My post does not represent the general or official opinion of anyone else besides me. No matter what YOU believe. |

What they should do, is build a 1v1 arena in all the hubs, and then allow people to place bets on who wins.

Actually, CCP is already trying to add this, or was going to at some point at least. I know some Dev also mentioned this.
In fact, if you look into the game's resource files, you will see that the graphics for a casino station service, chips, and dice are already there. And comparing them to this site from the Exodus release, they seem to be a recent addition (only the station service graphic was in then).
Come on CCP, finish the casinos!

Hmm, you guarantee a million players?
There are only 3 MMOs in existence that have/had more than a million players, Lineage, Lineage 2 and WoW.
Admittedly they've got more of chance if the Chinese market takes hold, but still...

Noooooooooooo
CCP please donŠt ruin EVE, use cards to boost players and ships will have the same role that boosters might be, become something essencial for 0.0 battles.

You dont understand it wont be used to boost ships, it is just a game you play when you are docked at a station. A game inside them game a so called mini-game

I seem to remember FFIX the MMO has a mini-game that is like the card games you mentioned. I'm not sure how it works but if it works like one of the card games in the FF series, than it would be great. It's not like it's going revolutionise or change the way EVE is played, but rather give the bored miners, campers, safespoting fleets something else to do in-game.
The FF series has these cards, dropped from NPCs, which is a bit weird since the NPCs are animals. But if the EVE universe has a story where these card games are as popular as Quafe is and are part of everyday life to play these card games over coffee or Quafe, I don't see a problem Guristas dropping a pack of play cards which shows the card game is played by them as well. But the cards should be available on normal markets as well. A no-no would be special cards like Guristas card only dropped by Guristas, because it is not realistic in my opinion.

Ok thats an interesting idea but how about we turn your idea on its head instead? Don't make the card game ingame but have the cards you buy in real world give you something in eve. For example, how about rare cards in a booster that gives you a mission chain for a interesting item. Or perhaps you get a rare with a 10M isk.
Now anyone who says that its a stupid idea and would end up just been another way to buy isk is forgetting one important thing, CCP is a company and a company is there to make money. If one in 10 packs have 10M isk in them then CCP could sell 10 packs of cards. Good money I would think.
Also how about super rare cards with perhaps a factional ship. Now if we go even deeper into this idea, what about the EVE CCG having tournaments and the prized been skill points or a fully kitted jovian battleship. who knows, its all a way of marketing and also a good reason for existing EVE online players to get in on the rest of the franchise.
