As someone who would generally need one, and in fact hates the process of mathematics due to trouble retaining numerical sequences, I would rather do it in my head than use the in game calculator.

I use it a lot, yeah.
Usually I find a generic pocket calculator more comfortable to work with, but I always keep losing them, so the in-game calculator is the next best thing.
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it.

I use it all the time to calculate my shopping lists and volume needs for hauling. Even moved it out of that sub-menu into the sidebar for quicker access. Though for larger production calculations I use Open Office.

I've found myself using the ingame calculator from time to time (when trying to work out the .35 isk difference etc). If anything, it saves me minimizing Eve in favour of the Windows tools calculator.
Does it need updating? No, not really. Maybe if we're going for broke, an option to toggle scientific calculator on and off would be nice. However, I wouldn't say that would be a "need" |

I don't use it often primarily because it's so small and kinda hard to read. Give the interface an overhaul and I'd use it much more often.

I use a Naga which has a number pad where my thumb is ... so yes i use the calculator to work out how much i'm charging my alliance for Scourge missiles 
Not sure how you would update it tbh... unless you had to calculate transversal velocity....long hand because you had your overview set up wrongly.... |

I use it occasionally to find out how much ammo of a given type I can cram into a hauler when I'm trying to fill up my carrier. Other than that, no I use my TI 92 or a spreadsheet.

Of course now that you've planted this seed I fully expect that CCP will feel the need to dump it as well as the IGB, Notepad and other in-game conveniences in the name of "limited developer resources and efficiency".

Same. Anything complex I use excel/gdocs but it's OK for quick checks so it's on my neocom for easy access. It's annoyingly small, pops up in random spots on occasion and ends up being accidentally pinned over something vital.

I use it because I like to carry exact ammo amounts in my cargo for x number of reloads. Sometimes it's easy but some weapons systems have strange clips.
That's really the only time I use it. |

I've used it on occasion but I prefer to just use Windows calculator because I can put it off on my second monitor. EVE already has too many windows and widgets and crap cluttering the screen. And the big readout of the Windows calculator is easier on the eyes. |

I used to use it for years hoping that digit grouping would be implemented, but since it's not, I just use windows calc through keyboard shortcut. EVE is a game that deals mostly with millions and billions, so not having digit grouping in the calculator makes it pretty much useless.
I'd use it again actively if digit grouping gets implemented.

SHHHHH don't let them hear you use a "feature app" in the game, they will remove it like they did the jukebox by claiming from their statistics that "no one uses it."
But naa, the only real improvements it needs is the ability to have multiple tabs maybe, or something REALLY nice would be adding calculator functionality to the notepad. Being able to type (100*107)= would be great if it would do the calculation in parentheses since it saw the = sign after, and them dump the calculated value in a new set of parentheses to the right. |

It's irreplaceable for several things:
- material lists for industry (with actual links to items);
- travel lists or lists of frequently visited systems
I also use it or have used it for:
- short mission and complex descriptions (while I was still learning them);
- character lists (with linked character names);
- storing funny quotes from chat channels;

I use it a lot, but as others said, it would be great if there was grouping of some sort ot help differentiate between billions, million, thousands, etc. Just even put in commas and periods would be great, or just space every group of 3 numbers slightly further apart, instead of having to painstakingly count every 3 groups of numbers

But I confess when I'm logged in with my industry alt, I'm more likely to tab out and use my own, actual physical calculator while updating spreadsheets.
And sometimes I'm too lazy for calculators and just put formulas into the spreadsheets to the math for me. But I really do sometimes use the in-game calculator! (And I hate every minute of it, seriously, the text on it is far too small and I get some kind of weird lag when typing numbers into it. It's barely noticable, but it's enough to make me mess up numbers then and when.)
Hopefully CCP will one day go back to that calculator and run some kind optimization process or something on it. The thing isn't bad, just a bit wonky. Like if it had been "programmed" by just porting the Windows-calculator into Eve. |
