Two questions, I'm using a Miner II to do some AFK mining in my Iteron, what would you put in the other hi-slot? somehow I can't come up with a good use?
Second, do any of the other racial industrials or other large cargo hold type ships allow me to fit two Mining lasers?

If you are just using for nothing other than afk mining in secure space, I wouldn't put anything there. Otherwise I'm a big fan of the tractor beam. A remote armor repairer is also good for those corp ops, but i guess rats will not be an issue in your case.
As far as 2 mining lasers go, I don't think any regular industrial has 2 turrets. Some of the t2 ones might, I don't really know, but I doubt you want to do afk mining in one of those. You could look into putting mining upgrades in low, though if you are afk mining, I suppose the extra cargo expander is better.

wait til ya get a hulk. its awesome.
i set it to mine, go and watch tv play another game.
come back in 30 minutes full cargo, dump to jetcan, afk another 30 then haul
never had soooo much fun not playing

i would put as many as posible the mining mods in the low slot to get that miner 2 to mine as fast as possible.
Pity the indy's never had a drone bay.

Hulk? 30 minutes? You may want to consider replacing the hamster running your ship because the current one is doing a lousy job. Alternatively - stop posting on topics you have no idea about or no skills to back them up :)
As far as AFK mining in an industrial goes, you only need two things:
- Miner
- Cargo expanders
Other items you may want to consider are:
- Bookmarks to and from belt(s) and station(s)
- Asteroid scanner (you don't want to pick an almost "empty" rock before going AFK)
- 10MN afterburner.
Also, if you're seriously interested in mining, you may want to check some really great guides in stickies. My hulk-flying, mining-maxed alt (T2 strips, T2 drones, maxed skills, etc.) can fairly easily make 40-60mil ISK per hour. Add production to the mix (manufacturing items from refined ore) and you can increase your income by additional... 30% or so (T1 ammo, modules, ships, implant, hauling alt, etc.)

youre a funny guy. take a hulk put on all 27's expanders on it in lows. hmm what is it 9k or so of cargo space. forget.
and yes my skills not maxxed out so to fill the cargo hold takes pretty darn close to 30 minutes .
maybe with maxxed out skills it might take alot shorter time.

Where do you get 30min?
With 2 27% expanders a hulk has 12992m3 cargo hold
3 t2 strippers using t2 crystals will pull 3800+m3 ore every 3 minutes. The strippers would kick out on the 3rd pull because your hold is full. Thats only 9 minutes.
Even if you used ye old t1 strippers, they pull 2793m3 every 3 minutes. So they'd kick out on the 5th cycle. That's only 15 minutes.
Are you not using Strip miners?
3 t2 deep core miner's would pull about 1000m3 every 3 minutes. Only now would it be 30min to fill your hold (42 actually)

Iteron V works fairly well...
5x Expander I's obviously carry the most
5x Mining Upgrades pushes the mining laser's output to 120m3 or there abouts.
Alternatively, 5 lows (with some caps in med) can hold a decent afk tank in 0.5 and cycle the laser.

For Industrial mining..
I usually stay near the keyboard (reading a book doing a crossword whatever)
I use a mammoth which has that second hi-slot. if I'm in 0.9 nothing in it as nothing needed. if I'm in 0.8 then I fit a small smart bomb. serps close to inside the 3k radius to attack.. let them your shield has more than enough hp to take the damage.. hit the smart bomb.. 3 (or 4) cycles = dead serps.
A word of caution on the smartbombs.. make sure you are not near a secure can or someone else. detonating in 0.8 and hitting another player (or player item) will result in Concord destroying your ship.
I use a hauler simply because I don't want to deal with ore thieves. with 15,947.54 m3 and a Miner II doing 90m3 thats just under 3 hours mining to fill the hold. providing you find a rock with that much ore in it.chances are you will have to change rocks so it works out to just over 3 hours mining time.

OOoooo Let me find someone AFK mining Ice in a hulk.... Well worth the lost ship... (why oh why would you buy a hulk to mine Ice.... WHY....)
Anyway, the 30min guy was a alt post, So Probally not actually in a hulk anyway, Espically with the quote "Never had soo much fun not playing the game" (I think it was that same one, anyway) floating around.
Not much you can do to make AFK mining better, If you need to speed it up, stick in some mining laser upgrades, if you need to go longer, stick in the cargo hold expanders, other than that. Happy Mining :)
