How big is a grid square?
Specifically, goal of asking is: say I know I will lag going to a gate or a moon. How far out do I need to have a staging safespot to warp to first?
Is there much variation? Like, 10000km out will work sometimes, but other spots need 1000km out?
I know overview normally stops around 300km, so I think a grid square is bigger than this, but I'm not sure how much bigger.
Thanks in advance! ---

I think grids are somewhere between 500km and 1000km across. However, note that you can be near the edge of a grid and thus not see someone 100km from you, for example.

Keep in mind 3 dimensions as well, and I think that grid "cubes" aren't as high as they are long and wide. _____________________________ Nukem from orbit... It's the only way to be sure. |

Hm. Sounds like there is no good way to figure out in advance how far to warp in for staging.
Is there some way to tell if I am on the same grid square as something else which isn't on my overview? Like maybe if distance shows up on the scanner, I'm on-grid? ---

drop a can fly away from it, Once it disappears from overview, go back and drop another can, fly away but keeping all dropped cans in view, repeat...

I was wrong, I attempted what I posted afterwards and It seems the grid loads dependant on objects in it, thats the reason the size seems so indetermint..
