Collected hints and observations:
* Rookies don't mine Ice. Thery're missing the skills.
* Trial pilots don't mine Ice. They're not allowed to fly barges.
* ccp didn't state which Icefields are going to disappear.
* The hint on 'accidental placement' is a pretty sorry excuse. People pointed out the problem the day the fields appeared in those systems.
* Pushing the 'Farmers' and 'MM' to rat infested space will change exactly nothing unless all Ice is gone from HighSec.
* Retrievers (med. barges) can defend themselves in .5 against npc just fine with a good amount of drone skills.

Btw, you'd hate it if just another clientpart eats into your available resources, causing more and more clientproblems and lag.

Only high traffic systems like Jita are affected by this. Read Kieron and Oveur's posts this time before having a knee-jerk reaction.
I haven't seen a list of affected ice fields. Did you? Where?

Aye, that one for sure. I know a couple of others too.
ccp didn't limit their info to 'Only'.
With the available info they could remove all icefields from HiSec.

Icelanders aren't known for using hammers. They prefer spears, swords(expensive!), the one-bladed axe(often used as tools too) and the two-handed battleaxe(not aboard the ships).

Why is it a bad idea to remove all ice in safe space? If anything, low sec mining should be made alot more rewarding so teamwork mining there is really worth it.
For the ones with mining barges, you would take it into low sec if there was some really big money to be made there. If you could replace it in a hour of mining for example. Maybe you already can, im not a miner.
But expecting to be able to sit in empire, while afk, and letting the iskies flow, is lame. You have normal ore there for that sort of thing.
Go and mine some ice. It takes up to 10 minutues for a single cycle.
There are no partial pulls as in ore mining when you have to leave suddenly.
Ice mining in HiSec is roughly as good as Scordite or Kernite, just more relaxed. This leads to the 'I tried to contact the miner and got no answer ...'. Would you stare at the screen when you're needed every 15-20 minutes for moving your ice to the can and hauler?

There is no logical reason why a natural resource demanded in 0.0 would be supplied by empire space. Its just further proof of CCP's massive failures with the EXODUS expansion, when it comes to actually making people leave Empire.
Giving people everything they want in a risk-free environment is single-handedly the WORST idea anyone could EVER come up with to get people in 0.0. Agents and POS are two other superb examples of this, and why I hate that expansion with a passion.
Adding insult to injury.. The complete lack of distinction/innovation in the way Ice is mined, and total irrelevance of scarcity and depletion has to make it one of the top contenders for worst feature implementation. Unsurprisingly, probe scanning and tactical view is there too.. more of the EXODUS insanity.
Highend ores should be removed from NullSec and alliance-claimed space. I don't need them there.
