I don't think so... I been running agent missions on a new toon and with 350 people in Ours. I don't feel any lag. Before the patch... couldn't undock properly without a CTD or a stuck toon.
but thanks for posting rubbish... have a nice day.
Not only is Ours a major hub which would receive daily heavy usage and getting generous load balancing because of it. The majority of the players in Ours are in one of the many stations, the rest are out in dead-space on missions or mining or ratting. What we are talking about is all 300-400 players [IN SHIP] within 250 kms of one single station with drones out firing at each other, the station is also firing. You can fly around the rest of the node without much issue though logging in will take 15 minutes minimum. However, once you approach the battle area things come to a -full stop- . But thanks for posting you high sec rubbish in a thread you know nothing about. Please go back to your station sim and let the grown ups talk... have a nice day.

Problem is, before you tried getting 200 people in system... really really bad things happened... now it doesn't so what do people do... they cram 400 in the system... and you're complaing CCP you did nothing to less lag... if you guys would stop blobbing up till the server crashes then perhaps....

To be honest (god I'm using TBH to much atm) lag will remian a problem in eve until the entire population can all be in the same grid at the same time with no lag.

So you have to tell 75% of your corp/allaince to stay home becouse of lag?? quite retarded, yes.

The Server IS balancing itself. The problem is that we keep unbalancing the server.
In the tuesday fight, we brought 50 people and D2 & Friends(Is there a better name here?) brought 100 people. At downtime the server optimized for 150 people.
The problem was, the next day we didn't bring 150 people, we brought 300. There was about 120 of us and 180 of them. At dowmto,e tej server optimized for 300 people
Again, it didn't work because we brought four hundred people the next day.
As for the cans, those were ammo stores or dead spaceships.
As for the drones, we believed you were going to engage us at close range like you had the two prior days, and had difficulty scooping them up once we realized that you weren't
No matter how well you know what a person has done And what he thought he was doing when he did it And what he now thinks of what he did, It is impossible to be certain of what he will do next. |

Great suggestion. I am sure next time we fight for control of space we will have a nice convo with our enemies first and all agree to bring only 30 ships. _____

Hey at least the game won't be choppy when you get blown up =D As for me, I'm lucky to see anything before my ship pops in fleetbattles like this. Oh how I wish I had a better computer

I don't think that it is constructive to get into a debate about who's doing what. I can say that on the GS side we haven't INTENTIONALLY been trying to cause lag. The can's are anti sniper warp in's and the drones were in case a rush needed to be made, which has been previously stated. I begin to think that the D2 dread pilots were correct, because up until yesterday I hadn't experienced lag that bad.
In one engagment, a convoy I was in was destroyed, and myself and about 4 others were the only ones that managed to escape (I blame excellent armor management). Once I had safespotted in a system down the road, I noticed several hostiles jump into local, so I tried to jump from safespot to safepot. I found that I could only control my ship intermittantly at best. The game was unplayable for minutes at a time, and I had no control whatsoever. I logged hoping I did so before I got probed out, which probably turned out to be a smart move. The others in my gang were experiencing the same problem, and my brother who logged on in the station also experienced the issue.
So it's hard to say what really happened involving the Dreads, and perhaps we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions about it. Maybe it was a little from column A, and a little from column B. Maybe not. There's been enough finger-pointing, and I hope that we can get the lag issues sorted out so that we can properly enjoy our massive fleet engagements.
I'm off to buy more RAM now.

I realy get angry whenever lag gets mentioned and some smartypants turns up to ponder on the specifications of our computers.

I only mentioned it as a way to show that it wasn't client lag, but in fact server lag.

Instead of whining again the next time this happens why not make sure it doesn't happen yourselves? If you're looking at a 200 vs 200 fleet battle then split your fleet in half and flank the enemy with the one half. Go deeper into their space or whatever, even if it's just a few jumps away. If the enemy doesn't follow suit you sit there with your original fleet (which is now outnumbered 2 to 1) and refuse to engage, meanwhile your second fleet goes on its merry way and shoots at a station or something. Eventually one of two things will happen; the enemy fleet will split up or they'll all move to your second fleet. If the second thing happens you just repeat the whole process.
Alternatively, if you know there's going to be heavy fighting in a certain area for a while to come inform the GM's about it directly. Pick a system to be reinforced, wait a couple days, then make sure all the major battles happen in that system.
I mean it's not like CCP is just too lazy to fix the lag. There are limitations on the hardware and software that simply can't be pushed, not without massive code rewrites (which would take months of dedicated work) or massive hardware upgrades (which will only go so far if the software side is not completely rewritten to take full advantage of it). If 200 people total is the max for a random 0.0 system then that's the max, EVERYONE knows it by now and if you choose to engage with more without requesting the node to be reinforced days before hand you're going to be lagged to ****.

Look, you obviously don't know much about the situation. This fight is in XZH, quite simply, because the fight is all about XZH and that's where all the hostiles are and where the conquerable station is. There is 9-4 next door too, but that system isnt as valuable, so the primary objective for anyone invading cloud ring would naturally be XZH.
If a hostile force is attacking a dead end system with 200 people, you can't flank them with a half your fleet.
And there isn't much D2 could have done to request node tweaking, since they are defending and didnt know about the attack days ahead of time.
Or are you also suggesting that enemies meet up before they go to war and all agree to use only 30 ships? _____

No, that obviously wouldn't work. Looking at the map there's still a lot of activity in that system, and I'd bet it'll stay that way through the weekend and maybe next week as well. So request the node reinforcement right now, and you may have it by tomorrow.
This isn't a one sided solution though, everyone needs to accept the fact that large battles will create a ton of lag and coordinate their major offensive moves with the GM's a day or two beforehand to make sure the resources are in place to handle it. I don't think it's much to ask of both sides in any conflict to do this, considering it'll lead to more fun and less lag for everyone involved. Obviously it's not going to be feasible all the time, as some battles just happen spontaneously, but when it's an obvious location (like a conquerable station in a dead end system during an invasion) there's no reason one side (or both) can't give a heads up to CCP.
Perhaps CCP could create a new Petition option for resource requests, given the same priority as stuck petitions. It'll probably still take until downtime to come into effect but should help the lag situation out a lot.

Quite simply, unless some magical new computing technology bursts onto the scene, we are always going to have server lag. Think about the SCALE of 400+ ships engaging over the internet, on individual computers, shooting each other, and moving on a 3d plane. How much proccessing power must it take to coordinate all of that? If freaking BF2 lags with 30 people with a massive 3 possible weapons, honestly how can we expect to have 400 ships lag free movin' around.
I dont understand complaining about the lag. CCP is aware of it, and is obviously doing their best to balance a gigantic game. And both D2 and GoonSwarm have won and lost engagements because of the lag. Suck it up, buy another ship, and get back into the fight so we can all blow more spaceships up with pew pews.
btw, as this isnt the corp forum, prepare for the wrath of the ultimate forum *****s: the goons.

You realy can't compare BF2 with eve.
BF2 has like 20x more the client/server update stream when compared to Eve. Noone's asking for 20msec pings and no lag at all, but not this. If the Eve advertisement said "You realy won't enjoy this game if you plan on doing anything bigger than a 20x20 fight in an underpowered node system" ... many of us wouldn't be playing now
What's even worse is the client design of "freezing" while performing a multitude of actions like deploying drones etc

At the end of the day giant fleet battles like XZH recently are to me what the 'end game' of EVE should all be about. I cant even begin to imagine the playerbase outrage if the end game scenarios in the more conventional MMO's were so horribly unplayable when it came to the crunch.
Im not really sure how this could be fixed but as it stands it's all a bit of a joke. In many fights like these players with hugely expensive ships find themselves waking up in a station without even being able to fire a shot.
It's all very disheartening really

Hey guys.
Look, Im pretty certain no one in gf or d2 *want* lag. Hell, Im stuck back in SU (till I can find my way up again) thanks to it landing my butt in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I realise people want to blame others for things sometimes, but really I can tell folks its just not the case (The give away that the cans are for anti-sniper warp ins and is that they are all aproximately 200kms out from a gate or station. I do wish GM's would acknowledge this)
After we got petitioned a while back, we discussed this and done tests as well, and we are fairly adamant there is no real lag caused except a *tiny* amount of jump in lag, as cans just dont change vector , they just kinda sit there or pop.
Its a heck of alot of fun up that way, and I do wish empire players where able to experience the maddening joy of big fleet battles (and genocidal expansion! ) for real, because lag aside, it really is the most fun part of this game.

I can deal with lag to some extent, but completely freezing up and then not being able to log back in at all for the duration of the battle is really frusterating.
