Does anyone have any good tactics against solo carrier pilots?
To even fly a carrier you have to have the skills to operate a base of 10 fighters?
If you Jammed the Carrier the fighters dont need him to even lock you in the first place to attack you right?
10x fighters 250 Damage every 4 seconds means bs wouldnt last long dunno.

Not tried this, but it sounds sound:
Get him to set his fighters on you, warp to a POS, get the fighters slagged.
Your mates stick with him tackling him down and nossing him. You come back and you all slowly eat away at him.

Edited by: HippoKing on 30/06/2006 07:13:57 Well, that would screw it up
edit: you could still do it with just warping the fighters into optimal of some damage dealing ships, and cooking them fast.

dampening a carrier works, afaik warping to a pos with fighters wont work cuz pos dont attack fighter "drones" . a pos will save u from getting bbq'd if u getinto the pos shields though.
and the fighters dont randomly agress unless he gives the command, if he cant lock you he cant give out commands, u just kill his fighters 1 by one or just focus on him. if u attack a fighter sometimes they come after u, but just the one u shot.
if the pilot has carrier 5 he can control 10 fighters, additionally if he has a drone control unit he can control more, based on that lvl.
most carrier pilots have 8/9 fighters (carrier lvl 3/4), if he had 10 :p ur in for a ride.
but if he is dampend, he pretty much fecked after u kill of his fighters. web and focus fire/drone em, just kill em :p

I'd say load up heavy NOS, 15km scram, racial jammers, and pick off drones for the rest of your life until it runs out then kill it.
Oh and I've seen a gatecamping carrier in Akora. Scary. -----------

-get at least 3-5 bs -Warp to carrier and engage (be careful incase he has a warp scramble) - Warp off to planet, engaged fights, keep warping around and engadging until they are nearly all dead -go back to carrier, and kill it!
once the fighters are dead the carrier is quite easy, so u just gotta take them out first. Plus i think there is still a carrier bug about recalling fighters at long distances, but not sure!

Edited by: Aramendel on 30/06/2006 10:22:03 The main thing is that fighters in warp are of no use whatsoever for the carrier pilot. If he sends all on one target (aka: you) all you need to do is warp between a few decently distant places and repair your tank while warping. As long as you survive the time you need for re-alligning for warp you can lead the fighters on a merry chase with them spending 90% of their time useless in warp.

I've gone up against a few thanatos so far, understanding that half the battleships we brought out to attack it were NPC fitted, or just plain newbie pvpers flying them, We took some fairly heavy losses, Personally if I was looking to go up against one in a planned raid, 20 - 30km warp scrambling, ton of Sensor Dampners, would need a few battleships.. im thinking 5+, not including the person thats flying around leading the fighter drones on a wild goose chase..
Most carriers ive seen so far have either all highs with NOS, or Energy neutralisers, or smartbombs..
So yep, Sensor Damps at least 4 - 6 modules strength activated on the carrier, warp scram range of 20 - 30km.. and lead the fighters through warp. (with the drone bugs, I dont see those fighters re-engaging if the carrier pilot recalls em)

You only need 3 things
1) Nos or Neuts 2) Jammers/ECM
3) Firepower
1 & 2 cripple the carrier way too easily making 3 a waiting game, doesnt matter how good your firepower is, if hes jammed and his caps draining (and it does quite easily) then his tanks will just shut off and hes boned.
Carriers are way too easy to pick off, esp as mentioned when u basically make those nice damaging and expensive fighters a waste of time.
ECM vs a capital ship is a joke, very very easily jammed, even with medium ecm drones, so much for monster sized sensor strengths, 1 standard t1 cruiser can easily render a carrier limp.
Their not quite the "Capital" behemoths their made out to be.

If he also had 1 BS support and you tackled and jammed him before he launched his fighters couldnt he still put the drones under the control of his gang member which incase could lock you and assign the fighters to attack you?

I've been on the test server fighting Carriers for a while now. I found two things that work effectively. Yes they are unorthodox, yes you probably won't use them, but I'll put them down anyway for some possible inspiration.
To take out the fighters I jump into my Snipe Geddon and jump in at 100km and pop a few fighters and then jump out and jump from area to area to keep the fighters off my tail. While the fighters are busy chasing me some other ships jump in and start pounding on the carrier.
If the carrier recalls the fighters to attack the nearby people then simply have your range ships jump in and start popping the fighters again. =============================================== *If you don't want me to complain about WCS then don't complain when I gank you with a 5 man fleet just so I have enough points on |

some people are very wrong here carrier gets 5 fighters base, with 1 per level, so with carrier 1 thats 6 fighters
each fighter does 50 dps base, with lvl 1 fighter skill thats 60 dps each
so with crappy skills thats 360dps
compared to a maxed out thantos, with a 25% damage bonus, and 15 fighters thats upto 1875dps
most people will be somewhere in the middle

I've found using a Mothership works quite well against Carriers
But failing that, sensor dampen and nossing is the way to go. Jamming is pointless for the most part because its got something like 80 sensor strength.

a non faction kitted carrier cant tank much at all, and its more likely now to find t2 kitted [low end faction kitted] carriers than the uber kitted ones
a normal t2 kitted carrier, take the thanatos might have something like
5x cap rechargers in mids. 3x t2 55% hardeners, exp,kin,therm and a dcu and 2 cap reps
that tanks roughly 2250DPS. would take 4 close range ships roughly 80seconds to pop the guy, and thats if they dont nos it. its fighters will force one to warp out. so 5 close range blasterthrons/ac pest/pulse ged/rage raven should kill a t2 kitted carrier inn under 60seconds!
they are not that hard to kill
if all else fails, take a neut apoc with you,

I'm no pvper, but if I were in a carrier solo I would fit multiple NOS in the highs and multiple warp scramblers in the meds.
Focus all the above on one ship at a time, and it isn't going anywhere. Send in the fighters, rinse, and repeat until every BS is dead.
Shouldn't take long as long as you aren't jammed, but I'd have racial sensor booster(s) in the lows as well as 2-3 1600mm plates to keep me alive long enough for the fighters to do their dirty work.

Did you read the part about me not being a pvper or no? I hardly have 3 weeks experience in the game, nevermind pvp experience.
And yes, capitol ships do die, and plates prevent that. What's the problem with using plates on capitol ships? (Logic doesn't seem to apply to EVE as it does to the rest of the world. )

well peeps dont use 50mm plates on BS for the same reason a carrier wont use 1600mms ;)
capital armor rep repairs like 10.000 hp per cycle. thats like 2 plates at least. and peeps use dual rep setups as you can read above.
maybe 3 week olds should NOT (try to) give advice about capital ship fittings?

I see, I see. Thank you for pointing that out. I like to give help and answer people's questions, but you're right; I should at least understand the subject matter I'm talking about. (I appologize for any confusion or annoyance I may have caused.)
For now it's back to the rookie help forums and questions like "How can I get my drones to work?" and, "I fitted my module but it won't activate, why is this happening?!?!!one".

just have whoever the fighters go after warp off to a moon with a few frigs and cruisers standing by to tackle and kill the fighters. You really only need a few ships if you can nuetralize the fighters cause those are its only offensive capability(not that you didnt already know this ).
When we killed a carrier a while back we didnt use the frigs and cruisers just had the guy who was getting attacked by the fighters warp around till they went after someone else then he came back in.

You'd probably be best off with a nos/neut dom. If you happen to know his fighter of choice, you can probably take him with just a few people as backup.
Try 4 Best Named Heavy Nos, 2 Best Named Medium Neuts. A MWD, Warp Scram/Jam(Who fits stabs on a carrier?), and three Cap Rechargers in the meds (You shouldn't need webs because in the same way a rifter doesn't need webs to pin down an apoc). If he's stupid/bored/lazy enough to use only one type of fighter, tank the crap out of it. Drop a Rolled Tungsten 1600mm, a LAR II, and fit the rest with the finest active hardeners you can get ahold of, you should probably end up with something silly and a resist north of 90% (Quickfit says 88.47% explosive resist with 5 active hardeners, 94.87 against EM)
So go ahead and chop a zero off of that DPS there, if they're stupid. If they're smart, fit Kin/Ex/Therm Hardeners and 2 EANM IIs, your lowest resist should be 75%(HAB, Anyone?)
Your drones should be able to tear apart the fighters, and you're draining 95 cap per second. Bring some friends in to help take care of the fighters, and just take a nap while you wait for your ogres to tear through his massive shield and armor. Two or three of these should be able to take him fairly easy

Isn't a carrier with a full rack of fighters a bit of an expensive toy to go on a joyride with?.. Isn't a carrier suppossed to be the center of a fleet?.. Isn't that why carriers get those nifty Warfare Link Module bonuses?.. If so, wtf are carriers doing wandering around all by themselves like a little lost lamb? (why would anybody wander around by themselves in 0.0?).. Solo carriers getting killed is Darwinism in action..
