Its possible there is a player out there who just hasn't revealed themselves so they can find out who my character is and gank me.
And people don't believe me when I tell them EVE induces paranoia...

Talking about paranoia, I'm pretty sure the IT crew at my last workplace played EvE. It didn't really click untill I tried accessing other gaming websites that were blocked, but the EVE-O forums weren't... Do not remove a fly from your friend's forehead with a hatchet.

I accept the reality of the EVE meta and the fact that the game doesn't necessarily end when I close the client.
My wife discovered she had a co worker who played EVE. I asked her to enquire who/what corp so I could go and kill him, but unfortunately he plays on the Chinese server. |

My Lieutenant used to play and still asks me from time to time about what's happening in EVE (seems that giving up most online gaming is now something that goes into a prenup lol, I've lost so many game friends to marriage lol).
Last year I got assigned a new (fresh out of the academy) recruit to train and during a break between calls I pulled out my lap top and started up EVEMON to check some things. He jumped up and said "don't tell me you play EVE too". I said I did and it turns out he started playing while he was in the Army.
He told me he was a "Wormholer". I told him thanks for the info but State Law doesn't allow me to ask him what his sexual orientation is . We had a good laugh about that one lol. He still plays too, I just don't see him often because he works at another division. |

I am a nurse, the only male nurse in my entire building. None of my co-workers, all female in case you missed it, are gamers. One time I was asked what I do for a hobby and I attempted to explain eve to a bunch of non-gaming female nurses.
I don't believe I was understood. |

Know that feels. Nurse too, and none of my co-workers "get" online gaming.
Do get to play at work sometimes, though. Kids love spaceships and explosions, so I'll hook my laptop up to the TV in our common/game room, close local, and go gank miners for awhile.

I actually got a co-worker to start playing, he even came to one of our Houston EVE Meetups but alas he found he had little to no time to actually play. A few others know, and one other guy actually tried but he's more of a WoW guy, so ... *shrugs*

I want to stay employed, so no, I don't tell people at work I play Eve. Why would I want people to know I am involved with a game that has attracted so much well-documented sociopathic behaviour in the media? |

Yea, why would you tell people who pay you that you spend your free time playing a game you don't like made by a company you hate alongside people you despise. That wouldn't raise any red flags at work, I'm totally sure.

I've talked to a few people at work that have seen the forums up on screen, but no one really wants to know. They see the avatar and assume it's a role playing spaceship shooter game.
One guy I talked to about it likes the idea of blowing up ships, but if you can't "head-shot" something within 30 seconds of logging on he's bored. I asked him how long it takes him to get bored of the games he's played and he said he get's about a weekend's worth out of the FPS stuff he enjoys... I told him I've been playing for more than a year and that there are people who have played EVE for more than 10 years... ... we don't talk about gaming anymore... hehehe
I would enjoy having coworkers who I could talk to about EVE. |

It's been my experience that most people are so wrapped up in their own personal drama that after they politely ask you what you do for fun, they stop listening. They are just setting up an opening to whine about their own pathetic lives.
So, I guess you could say that there is not a lot of difference between my work and the EVE-O forums.

Yeah. I'm so obviously a dork that I don't bother hiding it. It helps my reputation as the computer guy though so I can't complain. Sadly nobody else at work plays eve but one guy plays D&D and Lord of the rings Online, so we get along great sharing D&D stories and ones from our respective MMOs. He might come over to the dark side actually. I showed him Asakai and the stupid "I was there" trailer then told him about a time when that actually happened in a minmatar kitchen fleet sink with a ****** warpin(possibly a spy in a covops) vs an smart sniper fleet. They had a couple long points and the FC was kinded ******** so me and one other Jag pilot fit for fast tackle caught em and pinned an Arazu and some other **** while everyone else who wasn't pointed warped out and came back in on top of us at point blank on their sniper fleet. Nothing like burning into point blank range vs an Arazu and scramming him while 50 warrior IIs all target you. Amazingly I lived because once I pointed the Arazu our logis switched to repping me and I had a pre-Nerf med ASB against pre-buff drones in a fast tackle jag.
Anyways I tell that story alongside the ****** trailer and now I'm gaining followers who will come over one day... This Space Intentionally Left Blank |

I used t work at best buy, all my co workers were WoW nuts that went to conan and other 'run around skill crap with sticks lvl up games' eventually I got tired of them talking about WoW so while testing a pc for video issues (I worked in geek squad) I loaded up an old fleet fight, put that full screen and let it run. Then got a lot of "what the heck is that?" and the conversations stated. lol. I got about 3 of my old co workers to play, two played for a year till irl got them.
My new job, I work for a third party company at intel, I mentioned it, but the co workers are older (i'm 33, they are in their 50's) so they are not the interested. 10 years of eve... yea i'm an addict |
