To my mind this seems like a change more orientated towards war-decs rather then suicide ganking. Small corporations war-dec larger ones, or 0.0 alliances all the time so that they can go after their Empire-based or interloping members. With the ability of freighters to drop cans now, this suddenly got a hell of a lot more profitable to do.

Give freighters ONE just ONE low spot!
Problem solved as they fit a damage control.

One question about this high sec ganking: The loss of security status for ganking in high sec is huge as far as i know. And you can not enter high sec with a status <=-5, true? So how does this ganking work for a longer period of time?
I haven't ever had a sec status <-0.5 in eve, can you work the status up faster if you are -5 or something?

You could double there structure HP and accomplish the same thing. I can't decide if using DCU's has given me bad habits - when I go ratting and can't quite tank the spawn properly I have a tendancy to warp only once they start biting off structure bit by bit.

well you could just have a freighter of your own couldn't you? :p
You score high on the 'I have no clue what I'm talking about' league... before you whine find out the facts... freighters can't pick up look cans etc in space...

Those saying that insurence should be removed, consider this.
There is no way for the game to tell the difference between a suicide gank and someone accidently firing upon somone in high sec space.
Where insurence does the most good in eve is minimising the impact of accidents like these. Especialy for newbies who tend to get very demoralised when they get their shiny new frigates blown up by accidently targeting a player.

Edited by: Prestis on 01/07/2006 12:20:25 15 people ready to trash their sec-status and throw away a battleship for 1/15th of a freighter load. This will happen roughly what, once a year?
But oh no, a bug hurt PvPers, it should never be fixed!

Edited by: Brannor McThife on 01/07/2006 13:44:20 You know. I'm getting a freighter for my alt... and you know what else? I can fly a Basilisk... so I'll be sitting right next to him/her as he/she travels. First sign of a gank squad and I'll dock him/her...but at least I'll be able to have him/her tank long enough to get away.

Make some friends. Have them bring some ships. The moment suicide gankers open up on you they go outlaw and can be shot. A couple of Electronic Warefare ships will nullify the threat, most likely before they get another shot off. You then profit from scooping their loot after watching Concord have their way with them.
Quit whining, make friends, be paranoid.

You'd have to be crazy to think that Freighters will be ganked in High-sec; do you have any idea how much shielding and armor a Freighter has? You'd need a gank squadron of 20+ high damage battleships and even then there's no guarantee that you'd succeed. I foresee BoB killing a D2 Freighter in Jita just to beat their chests and then it'll just never happen again.

Originally by: Ozmodan Then I have to read lame posts on this thread about escorts. If you use your brain a little, you would realize the only people that can provide escorts big enough to protect such ships are the big alliances. Means if you are in a smaller one, you can forget freighters, they are a walking hit me sign now.
Escort for a freighter :
bunch of scouts (alts with shuttles are ok in empire) 5-6 Scorpions with his full of Shield transfer and meds full of ECM (+ sensor boosters)...
Scout doing his job should help against almost anything besides logoff traps
5-6 scorpions can get a preventive lock on the freighter to remote shieldboost him ASAP. many hostiles BSes spotted : preventive lock on them, they start shooting, jam them before second salvo.
You can also consider buying a set of pirate implants to boost armor hp a bit. IIRC, there's a hardwiring implant that boosts hull hp. A damnation or a vulture to boost your tanking with gang modules ...
If you're low on cash, do it with blackbirds, low grade implants and a regular T1 battlecruiser.
Oh, and I'm not a pirate, don't have a pirate alt, have never engaged in acts of piracy. On the other hand, I have flown escort duty alongside freighters and I can also tell you that there are other things that won't cost you anything and might help you, such as planning your reoute to avoid risky spots, using a safer timezone ...
One thing I've noticed is that pirates are usually very inventive when it comes down to finding ways to get other players' stuff, while AFK carebears complain that they can't make isk while watching a movie.
Well, waiting for hours at a gate until you get a decently loaded freighter (which will earn you enough isk to compensate for the loss of 15 Battleships) might be boring too ...
About no insurance when concordokkened, I agree it makes sense, but might be troublesome for noobs who make a mistake, and for empire wars when you accidentally scramble the wrong person. S..t Happens I guess 8) _

... on a second thought, armor logistics really should be effective. Take a Providence for example. It has 24000 armor HP with standard EM resist of 60%. Let's assume a freighter pilot has full slave set and there is a maxed Damnation boosting with 15% armor and 25% to all armor resistance mod. So we get 24000*1.25(skill)*1.53(slave)*1.15(leadership) = 52784 armor HP. And that is resisted, the base resists are 60em/20ex/25kn/35th, plus you get about 25% more resistances to all from gang warfare link. That basically makes geddons not worth using for this purpose, the best bet is either a ravens with explosive torps or a tempests. However I doubt 1 logistic will change anything, shoot for 3 or five for sure bet... as 20 battleships will vaporize armor buffer pretty fast.. but if you can rebuild considerable fraction before final volley, surely a freighter will survive.
On the sidenote .. if it turns so that the gank fails for some reason, what would you do with the 10% structure freighter you end up with? only thing you do with it is repair at the station for about the freighter mineral cost .. which leads to a conclusion that even if gank is failed, the huge monetary damage to a corp is done anyways. A win/win situation for the attacker. Even if you give a freighter 1 low slot it doesn't help, as structure reps use med slot. Even if you give a med slot, think about how much months of 23/7 online hull repping it would take to repair 50% of structure hp with large hull rep.
