England lost to a team inferior on paper, and inferior on the day.
It was no-ones fault, not Svens, not the Refs, not Christiano (playing on the continent this season) Ronaldo. Portugal were far from the better team - despite the lion's share of possession and an extra man they failed to create a meaningful chance in the second half.
Diving, smiving. Irrelevant.

i predict that by 2018 world cup portugal will be wearing a tutu, ballerina shoes and have a fairy wand, bunch of pussies diving all over the place. And they handballed it in the box. end of the day, this world cup has been ****e, i think fifa are trying to make it a game for pussies with all this diving allowed

italy are lucky bastards too, getting that penalty vs australia from a blatant DIVE. He ran over the play and tripped himself up. Its ruining football, traditional football. The physical game, the game we all love, not this boring diving and cheating malarkey.

I was just having this discussion, there have been worse world cups, yes the 2nd round was mared by diabolical refering but there have been some good matches e.g Germanys opener, France vs Brazil and Australia vs Croatia to name just a few, but FIFA need to come into the modern age and have a vid ref

i really dont care if rooney stamed on the guy's balls on purpose atlest he played like a man and kept the ball when two players were hacking at his legs, maybe he should have just fallen to the floor and got a free kick when they came near him. *** little ronaldo made it worse by coming and trying to get him sent off. i cant wait till he gets back to man u and gets bottles thrown at him

As usual England have an easy run then limp home after failing to beat the first real team they faced. I think the blame lies partly with Sven's poor squad selection and the players inability to gel as a team.
I think Sven was secrety glad they did go out as Rooney would have missed the next match what would have been his options up front for that game...Crouch?

terry and ferdinand playing endless 1-2's with robinson before pumping it aimlessly, its football like that which is 'ruining the game we love'
give me portugese players who go out to entertain over players who instead of wanting to win, are only concerned with not losing.
props to hargreaves though, good to see someone facing up to criticism and outperforming all the big heads surrounding him

The reason they were playing like that was because there was no viable options to pass too, thats not their fault but the inept tactics of sven and co, besides walcott shouldnt have got anywere near the squad in the first place, what Bent must ne thinking is anyones guess.

If you call entertaining diving and cheating then fair enough, (and yes im well aware that cole dived, but he plays for chelsea what do you expect) besides with all this "entertaining" football they played how many clear cut scoring oppurtunities diod they create? and ofcourse the english players want to win its not their fault however that the tactics forced upon them prevent them from doing so, des[ite this both Lenon and Cole had chances they should have burried and would have done in the premier, and when you miss chances like that especially at international level you deserve to loose.

Agree on this point though, in the 30 previous appearneces before this world cup hargreaves was utter cack, however since they played him in his position its shown why he plays consistintly for one of the best teams in Germany and regually in the champions league,if he hasnt played his way infront of lampard into the starting XI next game it will be a disgrace.

Another point with Engalnd is that Gerrad and Lampard are to simmilar McClaren needs to take them aside and tell them they need to fight for their place in the team because they dont work well enough toghter, McClaren needs to have the balls to do it...

If I'm not mistaken, there were talks of a transfer to Real Madrid, so dont bet on him ever playing in the premiership again.
I thought Crouch had a brilliant game after coming on, Hargreaves was amazing. Losing Beck to an injury and Rooney to a red card (big ref's mistake here, he should have blown the whistle long before play degenerated and Rooney tried to flatten Carvalho's nuts) hurt England a lot, Gerrard didn't play to his usual strength, and Lampard again failed to convert opportunities (amazing considering his goalscoring for the Chelsea side). Good game from an underrated portuguese defense, I was also apalled at Scolari's timid tactics (esp. pulling out their lone forward Pauleta after Rooney's red).
On a sidenote, Zidane astonished the whole nation here, like it was 1998 all over again, I can't believe he's going to quit football altogether after the tounrnament. Dunno if we (the french) will make it to the final, but everything from now on is pure bonus & extra happiness.
