I didn't see a thread on this in the first few pages of threads, so here goes:
What does everyone think of adjusting SiSi in such a way that all pilots are set at 0 SP every time it's mirrored but they also have 100 million SP's in unallocated skill points? Additionally, how difficult would it be to give the 'move me' bot a sister called the 'reset me' bot for the purposes of resetting SP's to 0 and 100m as they would be theoretically set during a mirror under this idea?
Before you say it'd reduce incentive to participate in mass tests, I'm pretty sure people who log into the test server in the first place are already not your average players. People on the test server generally have an interest in actually testing things and shouldn't need a lot of extra motivation to join in the mass mayhem of mass tests. Besides, it'd give people the opportunity to say things like, "Okay, army A should set their Gunnery skill to 3 and army B should set it to 5 for this next experiment," or whatever they feel is appropriate at the time.
Pros and cons, go. |

This is a testing environment people! (Not just a playground) The test environment (as with any other test environment) depends on variables being consistent as with the "real-time" (TQ) environment, Changing too many things to be different from "TQ" in this case causes issues, and when it comes down to it CCP will only end up seeing people testing ships, fits, and setups that have maximum backing from skills instead of the normal stuff handed around and fitted normally.
To clarify, the meterics for testing will be skewed, we will see less variation in skill levels related to fitting and spaceship command I.E.: Average Lifespan of a HAC with level 2 and Meta 4 guns VS a "perfect" HAC pilot.
Now to get on the physical mechanics for SP I'd say that it's generally a bad idea. Recently the database broke because they were implementing new features and tricks for Cirius The player database itself is huge, simply giving out SP is hard enough on the QA Staff The idea of wiping the entire database and applying 100m in un-allocated SP isn't hard however it would be the so-called "Reset Me" channel that would cause issues, even though a simple database lookup and set function wouldn't be hard, it's my experience that individual skills and their values are kept for every toon, meaning that this process would require a decent (Still small) amount of time in order to query, wipe (all of your skills), and set (100m un-allocated SP) function FOR EVERY TOON that uses it, I'd imagine that this kind of tool would be used and abused more often than a free masochistic hooker.

The arguments of , "This isn't the originally-intended purpose of the test server," and, "People will only test with max skills," may both have some merit, but neither of these arguments express how this change would clearly outweigh the increased flexibility of letting CCP know which new metas may be most desirable and letting people see for sure whether a skill does what they think it does before they acquire it on Tranquility. If this mentality had been adopted by CCP, then they'd have poo-pooed EFT, EVE-HQ, and other such tools years ago.
More than that, Singularity has been configured to let every player get every T2 ship and fitting practically for free on an unlimited basis. This idea would merely be an extension of that precedent and it could provide data which is at least as valuable as which currently-existing skillsets play out in exactly the same way as they would on Tranquility. So, yes, it would encourage people to compare their existing skills to what they could get if they maxed something out. It would show CCP just how far their system will stretch the abilities of characters when clearly being abused by people who are being told to abuse them for great justice and the lulz.
As for the database changes ... it wouldn't take any more time than a mirror currently takes and the script bot would only be a processing load worth noticing for people who spam 'reset me' faster than the existing anti-spam scripts will let them type. If you're worried about spam in the help channel, then a fix would be as simple as posting a notice to join the 'reset me' channel, if it even needs to be taken that far. |

It's a controlled test enviroment where CCP seeks to find out how changes affect the current populous present, Inherently screwing with the Skills of said population will skew and or modify the test results in a way that will not reflect what was originally the intended goal.
Lets say we wanted to test how efficient a wrench was at turning a nut onto a bolt, we wouldn't simply go out and grease all the bolts to make it easier for them all. CCP needs accurate results reflective of the TQ environment "mirrored" onto SiSi, Masstest SP is a necessity to attract players from TQ to come play around in their monitored sandbox. |

I don't believe that to be the case, even if CCP explicitly stated it to be so at any point in time. If it were, then we'd be limited to a truer mirror of Tranquility which includes the market, POS towers, sovereignty ... everything. None of that is really suited to a test environment and often takes as much time and resources to acquire as a good skill set. Besides, like I said, giving people a few million SP's in a test environment isn't really encouragement to join in a scheduled for-fun event. The encouragement is the fun itself, AND we're routinely handed millions of SP's anyway just to have people test the skills CCP is looking to have tested. This solution would circumvent the need for the whole process of determining who needs the bonus SP's and would serve the same purpose at all times instead of only during mass tests. |

- The Mirror Already includes the Market
- POS towers are removed to prevent malicious intel from being gathered
- Sovereignty is removed to allow players wanting to test sovereignty mechanics to freely do so without violating Test Server rules.
- The events aren't "for-fun" they are used to measure metrics, performance, and collect/farm bug report data
- It's easier to give a list of people un-allocated SP instead of wiping entire sets of database entries and doing a series of computations to give un-allocated SP equal to the amount lost from removing skills for a reset.
- Your self-entitlement is blocking your common sense.

Self-entitlement? One could say the same for arguing points given to you by others. I asked for pros and cons, and all I'm hearing is why things are the way they are and that people shouldn't be allowed to have free SP's for testing purposes unless it's during a mass test.
You're also just rephrasing what I've already said about how sovereignty and pos towers and the market being copied from Tranquility are not suited to a test environment (which is why they're not copied) and you're trying to use that as a point against me. Seriously? Additionally, if EVE werent' fun then you wouldn't play it. You're not getting paid to play on Sisi and nobody's getting recognized outside of their circles of friends for it. Of course it's done for the entertainment value while also serving the purpose of helping CCP see how their code is really working and if/where they maybe made some typos or if some new feature needs rebalancing.
I'm not saying you're wrong where any of your points are concerned. Far from it, you're very right. CCP has Sisi for testing purposes, and they watch what people do in there to make sure systems work just fine before being released onto the live server. On the other hand, what I'm seeing is that you're not even trying to see how changing the system would actually benefit the concept of a testing environment in ways which have already been established as common practice. |

im not sure how this is a point in favor/against addition of SP on Sisi Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

I'm not entitled to anything but my god given rights and life. I haven't asked for a single thing... Would I love to see some free SP, hell yes, is any single suggestion I've seen feasible in a sense that it would be WORTH CCP's TIME to implement it? No.
I've been re-phrasing the same thing because you don't seem to understand that things are a way for a reason. It probably won't change today or the next day and so on, HOWEVER with the new mirroring frequency having been announced we may see changes related to Shipbuilding times. The Dev's seemingly don't like giving free SP at all, it causes work for them that could probably be put into more productivity, however they need ways to draw users to their Test Server so there you have it. I'm sure if the QA Department had their way, SiSi would be a lawless blank slate with a moveme system, no rules, and very limited free SP. POS's and Sov would probably still be removed, NOTHING would be seeded, and players would be expected to provide for themselves just like on TQ. THIS would have the least amount of impact on the "Testing Environment" while protecting intel.

Everything, We would get a TQ copy without the POS's and only minerals would be seeded at 0.01isk/unit And all users would have access to a script for free AUR and ISK for anything involving the market. |

That's debatable, SP is probably the only thing that brings some users here, however something nice for attending a set amount of tests might be an alternative (Either a chunk of SP or a set of mods :| Possibly Supers ONLY if anything on them was changed during an update) Anything given out would be put into the redeem system for said players. |

So, your preference for Sisi would be that, in all practicality, the only things testable by the general playerbase should be whatever the devs are focusing on at the moment? i.e., giving people some sp's and free supercaps in the event of a supercap tweak? Would this method of execution be designed to keep people off of Singularity unless there's a planned mass test? |

Generally yes, but to also allow players that mass-test to test whatever they please in the meantime.
If something needs testing they'll dump books in the market or use a script to apply random or minimum skill values associated with what will be tested.
The method would still gernally allow for the "Live EFT" and skirmishes to take place while encouraging users to fiddle with stuff that's being updated, due to the lack of Free Everything. Seeding could possibly still take place in the Combat Systems to allow the generall SiSI antics to continue existing in the meantime. Seeing as that is it's primary use when there are no mass-tests about. |

The test server as it stands is a way for CCP to test their new features and code improvements. For a brand new player, SiSi serves almost no purpose. All you see now is big ships fighting in the arena beacons. So what CCP does to incentize players to come to their test is give out 2M skill points if you happen to be available during 17:00 EVE time. And if I understand the wording correctly, when a new mirror comes up, you get to keep 5 of the last 2M skill points awarded, not the one you participated in, but the last five tests they did.
TLDR - Everything is affordable, except time and skill points.

This is unrelated to the skill point request but another way to speed up testing. Is there a way that players can get access to the CCP autofitter tool that the devs use to fit ships in larger quantities faster than what is currently available. This could help with testing balances changes quicker than just the mass tests done by ccp.
The player version obviously would only pull from your hangar only instead of just from the DB, this way no officer, deadspace, faction or super capitals would be spawning. |

I must agree, generally speaking any aspects of a test they do is usually beyond the reach of any new pilots. Though the 2m SP doesn't always cover the skills needed for the pilot to assist in the testing.

OK, look at it like this i have 10 toons that can already moros you to death. I have another 20 that cant. instead of 10 moros' you would end up with 50 undocking all controlled by 1 dude. Those guys get SP's for their alts anyway... OK, look at it like this i have 10 toons that can already moros you to death. I have another 20 that cant. I can mass test the ten and the other 20 and give the sp from the 10 to the 20 and then do 30 max skilled. Which is an extreme example but as much as I like your idea this is what it would actually end up being used for. That makes sense. Didn't think of it that way. +1
someone would still manage to fit 1600 plates to their moros after all that too. |

So, to condense what's been said so far; the opinions of those who're taking the time to debate with me primarily boil down to the idea that letting people freely set their own skills to whatever they want whenever they want wouldn't actually be a good thing because people need encouragement to log into the test server and help a couple dev's try out a mechanic which would be in active testing at the moment ... but you also feel leaving the test server online 24/7 is a good thing because it gives people the freedom to test whatever they're currently capable of doing and no more because it'd be a bad idea to let people say, "what would *really* happen if i had all level 5 in *this* area," even though that kind of thing is already available in theoretical fitting tools which aren't always 100% accurate?
See, that last part is the part which confuses me. What if some guy working on a fitting tool wants to triple-check that his numbers are right before releasing it into the wild? What if I want to be really super sure of just how much of a PITA one of my noobs will be facing on a Lv3 mission bear security mission without having to try to dig up a toon of my own with similar skills just so I can do a live-fire test because it's been so long since I've had to deal with his level of restricted ability? I love and respect the idea of the dev's basically shrugging their shoulders and saying, "why the hell not," when it comes to just letting players use one of their testing tools which they originally made in the name of gathering data. In the same spirit of it potentially helping much more than it could hurt ... why the hell not let players see if they can't find additional creative uses for the same system which is mostly sitting idle anyway?
If Goliath over here poked his face into the code one day and guessed the whole 'reset me' thing could be done in something less than a hundred man-hours ... then why not? I'm no professional programmer, but I've done a share of it and I know that sometimes you need to switch gears and work on something that's just a side project for an hour or two while you let the bigger ideas for more relevant projects simmer around in your mind for a bit.
Nobody I've ever played around with in the test server seemed to actually be incentivized by the free 2m sp's for helping out in a mass test so much as being able to get a bunch of lulzy fights in a place where they can do things they wouldn't normally be able to do and get away with. I think the mass test should be enough incentive in and of itself for people to all get into bombers one day and do something crazy like seeing how well some new torpedo mechanic stacks up against interceptors ... or whatever else seems like it just shouldn't work but would be kind of hilarious if it did. Information like that could be priceless in the right hands. What if tournament teams could decide which level 5 super specialization skill would do them the most good? Whatever other examples I can come up with, I'm sure my opponents in this debate can come up with at least as many favoring the same original suggestion (even if you don't want to admit it).
Still, to give a nod to people who think contrary to myself; what if the 'reset me' bot and the 100m freebie SP's were only active on mass test days at first? Would that be enough incentive for you? The purpose of a test environment in the real world is to isolate factors, not to get a "real world" test. |

Because their only incentive for attending masstests (as of now) Is masstest SP. It would be sorta hard to let users utilize that SP if the server was down all the time :|.
Duality is more along the lines of Just for REALLY REALLY Pre-Alpha-ofthealpha testing, And that is actually down unless they need it, or for AT training.

the problem with many of these suggestions is that you are testing only the highest level of attainment in any category you are not testing what its like from a new or mid skill player perpective.
Testing is not about flying supers and titans and saying its all working
Its about a mid level toon setting up a pos for the first time....about that new toon trying indy or pve fits out
Giving a bunch of skills to someone who has not earned them, and then letting them test things they have never tried is not imho what sisi is for, nor does it benefit the game or CCP in anyway.
I use sisi, i have tested new fits, learned how to undock my first carrier there...discovered how damn annoying pos set ups could be. What a nuisance moon goo is, and discovered bugs and things along the way. Never once did i think boy i need 50m SP to test out that Nyx...since i have zero experience flying one and my input on its balancing or how it actually works is imho moot, since i have zero real TQ eperience flying once.
Skills are love hate thing....i love them cause it gives me goals to reach for and plan, i hate them because i cannot have what i want right now.
I say leave sisi the way it is....give the small SP incentives for ppl to come out. Many of us do...and would continue regardless of the SP incentive. Perhaps give out some vanity item for mass testing....a shirt "i was there" with the date on it.....or so mething along those lines. |

You're also assuming people won't want to test with anything except max-level skills. Sure, I can see the benefit of finding out just what happens when I push something to the max, but I can also see real uses for finding out how well the minimum works. Comparing and contrasting through the scale to find out if what you think is a scale of diminishing returns really happens to be the case would be just as valid a test as seeing what happens with max points in a skill.
Would I see what happens when I have Lv 3's in a thing vs Lv 5's? You can bet I would for a number of things. |

I like the OP's idea. Yeah, yeah, it may be "A test server for CCP." But is it really just for them if it's up 23/7 and they allow access to it by ANYONE paying for EVE? And yeah, some people may not think of it as an EFT, when in reality many people use Sisi as an EFT because it provides more accurate information when testing a new fit or a new ship.
I support the OP's idea because there are things I would like to test/try out that I wouldn't normally train to right away in TQ (Or can't afford to), such as a Revelation. I've flown one before in Sisi, but only after four mass tests. Can it truly be called a "test" server if we couldn't/can't test anything outside of our skill book range?
Yes, you're right, some people will Lv5 everything, but those people would be the ones mindlessly killing each other in the combat system. Whereas others like myself would love to just skill up to a new ship or two to test it on missions, or maybe skill up to improve a fitting.
100m un-allocated SP has it's ups and downs, but nothing is perfect. Giving everyone 100m SP could potentially bring in lots of data from ship fittings and players pushing the limits of what ships can really do, be it bare minimum or maxed all to hell. It also allows players to understand the skills more, to find more skills that could help them in some way. I know I've come across a few skills in Sisi that I quickly bought and put in my queue on TQ because it helped me in some way be it combat or mining. Sisi is the reason I now know buying a 2.1 billion ISK Revelation is a terrible idea, and I wouldn't have known that until I bought it without Sisi.
Even if it would take a couple months to put the OP's idea into motion, I would wait for it to happen. It would get me on the test server more than I usually get on and I get on often to just play around, because it's still just a test server that CCP allow us to get on to test everything available to us. |

I think it might be a better idea to add say ~ 20 Mill of resetable/useable SP on-top of each persons currently trained skills - as it would be nice to have some extra SP to mess about with for trying different fittings. These 20 Mill SP could be applied after each mirror, so as you'll only ever have 20 Million more SP than your actual SP to play with. Rewards for participating in MASS Tests could be something like a faction mod in TQ - which I think would attract a lot more people to SISI for the tests. |

A.- Have they been changed somehow? If yes and it requires a masstest for it then by all means. If not then no need for any of that.

The reason I originally suggested a 100m blanket amount was because I figure it'd be easier to code a flat reset and addition of a straightforward amount of SP's to an existing variable. I like the idea of having some no-requirements resettable 'floater' SP's on top of your existing skills, but I don't know that it'd be much easier to develop than my ideal solution of creating a new GUI with + and - buttons on each skill's line item on Sisi. So, yeah. 100m seemed like a reasonable, "that should probably cover most people," kind of number. I can acknowledge that we've got some old toons like yours in the mix, but you get where I was coming from, I'm sure.
And, yes, it would be some extra work for the dev's if they choose to do this or something like it. On the other hand, there's some good things in it for them as well. They wouldn't have to worry about who gets the SP's for helping out in mass tests and they could still dictate that people should throw certain skills into their Sisi toons so the test can go off in whatever way they want. Better yet, if people are permitted to actually reduce their skills then we could work with them by having some of us intentionally go in with low, medium, and high grades of skills so they can get whatever levels they want out of us by merely suggesting that it'd be nice if some more of us downgraded so they could see more nooby skills in action. |

ohh sorry .. was doing other stuff and fast readed the first post and missed the "alongside" ...
but either way ... not a fan of the idea ..
heres something i would think most would agree tho ..
how about making the SiSi testers to work for theyrs skillpoints .. no extra sp after mirrors .. just more sp from mass tests or same ammount (2mil per test seems reasonable for me tho) .. but more tests .. and peapole actualy taking apart gets em .. last year i had a toon logged in the day of mass test and next day i had the sp .. was other end of the eve then the mass test .. and/or give skillpoints for pointing out new kind of bugs ..
lets face it some peapole just log into sisi to try new fits/ships risk free ..

Missing the point....I think we need a dev here to reiterate .........THE SERVER IS NOT FOR YOU GETTING SP TO TEST WHAT YOU WANT. So trashing the mass test allocation for people genuinely helping test would be absurd. If you help CCP with tests they need help on you get SP. Other than that we really arent entitled to have them give us anything. They could actually just keep server up for mass tests only tbh. Be happy they don't do that. 100 million free sp would be totally ridiculous. If you are that much sp away from something (which is like 6-7 years) then itll likely be changed by the time u get the sp. Can't use the what if I buy a toon excuse either because if you did then you wouldnt need free sp would you? |

Basically you been beating a dead horse. And your second point is kind of true. Because we really dont NEED anything to help them test. Its voluntary. So basically they said hey this what we give out for mass tests. There has to be an incentive. The third bulletpoint you have basically is truesort of. If everyone had 100 million sp it would be cap blobs of zero test value online. So uhm yeah everything is covered. |

You just confirmed what I told you about Duality. Things are tested there by dev's before being deployed to Sisi. Sisi is where features are attempted to be broken and manipulated by everyone who can muster an evil giggle in order that CCP can decide whether their ideas really are good or if those ideas need tweaking.
What you, and others like you, seem to be afraid of is that people will only use maxed out everythings and capital blobs will fly rampant on Sisi. To a degree, that's true. I'd like to get in an Avatar and play around with it because I'm in the majority of players who will never get to fly one on Tranqulity. You know, for fun.
You're overlooking the greater idea of the intent of Singularity: CCP was by no means obligated to put it up in the way they did, but they wanted to be awesome and give their customer base a nod whereas fiddling with upcoming features is concerned. They've done that to a spectacular degree of success and it's worked very well for some time ... but there's no reason it can't be better. You think that removing the binders we're naturally expected to have on Tranquility will somehow destroy the original purpose of Singularity while simultaneously keeping people from logging in when CCP says to people who love to test things anyway, "Hey, we've got this new thing. Everyone fleet up and see if it breaks, please and thank you?" I fail to see how this logic of yours makes more sense than the idea of CCP telling people like us to adjust our skill sets on the fly and find out what happens. We're on the test server to test things, not to find out just how badass we already are on Tranquility based on our chosen career paths. |

You have never seen sisi with 300-400 in local destroying everything in cap ships have you? It is an awful sight to behold. As you have said you would like to play around with an Avatar. Thats fine the problem is we get another 399 that want to do the same thing. It would be amazeballs if they had a server they just let people run amuck and fly anything maxed out. |

Meh caps are boring, theres not that many cap ships lurking atm. But give everyone free sp and i guarantee 100% it increases by 400. People doing "hotdrops" on cruisers for giggles ruining their testing. No thanks Ive seen that and its not purdy. |

Let's think of this another way. If people can use whatever they want to use for free, then odds are we'll see a spike of cap usage etc for a while. People will get in them just to derp around and lose a few. Maybe current cap pilots want to see what happens when all their cap pilot buddies all have maxed out skills. Whatever.
After that's over with, it's likely that people would use Sisi as a way to figure out what's really the best thing, which means they'd explore whatever the current meta might be. In today's case, the wrecking ball or fuckyoufleet or whatever people feel like putting together so they can see just how well it works without having to lose whole fleets themselves. Given that this is likely, CCP could take this data during player-based ad-hoc testing and use it in a way separate from their current internal development cycle's needs. They could've potentially identified CPU usage spiking due to all the drones sooner than they did on Tranquility. They could've responded sooner by doing rebalances to encourage players to do something less processor-intensive from the server's perspective.
There are a lot of good things to be said for this approach, and the main arguments balanced against them just don't seem to be quite as functional from where I'm sitting. Would you get people setting some skills to max, well ... yeah. That's kind of a given. On the other hand, you kind of already get tons of people just mindlessly blasting each other with the best crap they can buy from the 100isk store. |

Thats what CCP does mass tests for and tell us what to bring. If they need 500 archons we bring 500 archons. They get their data. I doubt anyone in their cap blob is like oooh lets totally help CCP with this data ourselves. |

See, that's exactly what I'm saying here. During a mass test, CCP could dictate that people have certain things at certain levels and the people who give a crap about mass tests would be only too happy to comply. It wouldn't take anything away from CCP, but it would have a long term investment benefit for them by keeping them from having to manually administer quite so much once the feature were done being implemented. During any other time, CCP gets to see what people are flocking toward and they can use that information as they see fit. If people are allowed to get literally whatever they want on demand, then the pinnacle of one's intererests is immediately revealed in such an environment. There would be perfect data sets on what people are striving to achieve as opposed to what they can do with what they currently have. There would be much less guesswork on where development dollars should be spent based on what people love to do and what people are actively avoiding doing. |

It doesnt quite work that way. as soon as the changes for things come out we already know where things are going. At least they do. We knew that Crow blobs and Ishtar blobs would be prevalent before they was ever tested after their changes . |

That's in large part because you're allowed to use Sisi for your own purposes. Not for CCP's purposes, but for yours.
I'm not saying every new meta will freak CCP out and make them change things, but there's no reason they can't be caught off guard by something because people who wouldn't normally be able to do a thing ... can't actually do that thing. They, therefore, can't exacerbate the symptoms of it in a risk-free environment before it might potentially get out of control and call for an emergency patch. Does this happen often? No; CCP has a very firm grasp on what people will probably do because they've been at this for 10+ years now. Just because it doesn't seem likely doesn't mean it can't be a potentially useful side effect of the whole point of this thing - Sisi is equally important for players and for CCP. To think otherwise would be foolish. To think that CCP doesn't want us to try abusing the rules of the game in a test environment is naive. |

Hey again folks,
Some very interesting ideas coming out of this thread. Just another quick note - there is no need for debate in this thread, as that debate will happen internally when we decide what action(s) to take going forward. Think of this thread as a brainstorming event, meaning that we should be focusing on getting ideas down, without getting into rebuttal or derision of the other ideas (after all, it's an oversimplification, but there are no bad ideas in brainstorming). When we start tearing ideas down, or defending ideas, then people become afraid to contribute to the session, or become overly protective of their idea and lose objectivity. Let's just take a knee and resume the discussion with flowing ideas and no rebuttals. I will actually be actively moderating from here forward, but will leave all of the posts that are already here as they are. CCP Goliath | QA Director | EVE Illuminati | @CCP_Goliath |

I see your point that's what I do. And it's that variety of testing that helps find things that are OP or have a bug or exploit attached to it. Its a good thing but when people are given the keys to the asylum they generally run amok ( free supers/and large amounts of free sp) it generally turns into only capitals just sitting there squashing anyone else who might be testing a 10km/sec 200 dps Garmur . |

Oh, well that's easily fixed. A couple of the beacons could be suggestive of arenas with certain schemes like supercaps only, or nothing bigger than destroyers, or free-for-all, or king of the hill. As-is those beacon areas are entirely random and usually end up just having everyone gang up on whoever looks like the next good target.
What'd be really nice is if we could have some kind of automated thing which forms people into arena-style fleets and then automatically fleet warps them into the arena at random positions when the fleets are both full.
Edit: Additional idea which i should've had long ago: command line style skill adjustment privileges for players on sisi (e.g., "/setskill [skill_name] [new_level_of_skill]"). A chatbot could be programmed to just remove all the CLI messages from the relevant chat window. Wouldn't be as pretty as that ideal GUI thing I mentioned, but would grant the same functionality. |

I myself have come across this "training" issue while testing a number of times. I can easily get Outpost Construction finished training to level 4, but there is probably little chance of me ever training it to level 5, even on the test server, because it could barely be trained between mirrors. This prevented me from testing various scenarios for outpost upgrades during the workup to Crius, which required Outpost Construction to level 5 to build the 3rd tier upgrade platform after I had built them all up to level 2 from empty space.
My suggestion: Provide a script whereby players could request a skill bump for a particular skill. You could limit it to having to meet the pre-reqs for the skill. You could only have, say, 3-5 skills bumped at one time, without dev intervention. You could earn more by participating in Mass Tests, providing good feedback on this forum, or providing good bug reports. This would provide a good incentive, I think.
So, we could do something like this.
SET 'Outpost Construction' 5
You can always reset a previously bumped skill, adding 1 back to your counter.
RESET 'Outpost Construction'

New twist on old idea: during the mirroring process, give players who do not have a minimum threshold of SP's (say, 60-80 millon or something) the difference between their actual SP's and that threshold in unspent bonus SP's while also doing a free-form reset or skill reduction thing in one manner or another. We might also consider a minimum bonus SP pool size, too. 5-10 million sounds reasonable.
This would give new players the ability to see what all the fuss is about with regards to things which would be currently waaaay beyond their abilities on Tranquility while also giving the system some leeway in keeping notes on who attends mass tests and adding additional permanent credits for those who assist either on Sisi or by making good suggestions in the forums or maybe by clearly going above and beyond in storyline events. For the storyline event part, it'd be nice if there were a right-click option on Tranquility so CCP staffers can '+1' the action of a guy and leave a kind of invisible note in his character profile which would be waiting as a bonus on Sisi during the next mirror ... or sooner.
For those players who do not generally choose to assist in various ways but who like to use the test server anyway, reducing their skills could just dump their SP's back into the unspent pool so they can enjoy some flexibility while also not getting as much as those who actively try to help out in various channels. It'd be nice for everyone in general to get some SP's for just logging in at least once per day on Sisi since keeping that training queue active just isn't a real priority. Testers of any sort would get at least a little something, but people who really contribute would get more. As far as I know, there's no established rule which says doing things on Tranquility can't give you some kind of perk on Singularity.
Also, just so it doens't sound like I'm backtracking ... this incentivization for attending tests business is apparently a big deal for a number of people. I think it's silly, but it is what it is for you-know-who-you-are and I thought I'd try to come up with an idea which a person with this attitude might endorse as a thought experiment for myself. |

It might sound silly but tbh nobody would attend mass tests if they was just giiven everything. CCP would end up with 30 guys in a test. Because the general attitude would be "why bother I got free sp" Its not a big deal for us as players it IS a big deal for CCP when they go to stress test something and 9 people show up. |

Again, this is excesive, taking everybody to 80mill SP
However, the idea of EVERYBODY getting a little amount of SP at start of every mirror, the 5-10 you said, sound way more reasonable.
Let's say we fix that amount in 5mill, an average calculation is about 1.7mill sp per month that you can train, so this will be the equivalent to 3 months of training, which could give you a nice advantage on making a good training plan for TQ; will allow those that because of timezone can never attend a masstest to have a little preview, while still giving the ones that do the same reward that has been proven efficient for years; also for those persons that come a bit later into the mirrors and see they don't have they recent skills which they wanted to test the ability to put them current, and do their test, hopefulla this also will help reduce the complaints against long mirrors, as 3 months is about their average life, and if a mirror run longer can always be applied a bit more.
Recently you also say that the resseting skills seemed easier, is not; there's already a script or a way to give SP to everybody as they have done it in TQ sometimes when there has been a problem with deployments (i still have about 100k unallocated sp on TQ from last time this happened), so this will also be the simplest solution that will need no extra coding or work to CCP and they can keep their eyes in making the game better instead. |

I've more or less said resetting skills as a function and then just adding up SP's to be tossed into the unspent amount would be easier than making up whole new sets of commands or new interfaces. What might be done isn't up to me, but I'm also not the one who determines how much time to put into things like this.

I could debate with you all night about that opinon, but I won't. Instead, I'll give you a short personal story which you can interpret however you like and then I'll drop the subject regardless of whatever you may choose to say in return.
At this place of employment, workers are given the option, not the requirement, of working extra hours on the premise that forced overtime is worth less because actual output per worker will be reduced when people don't want to be around for more than the usual shift. Despite the fact that the amount of volunteered overtime is taken into account during annual reviews for each employee, a considerable number of people consciously choose to never work a single hour of overtime while knowing they'll get a severely reduced per-hour raise. Those who work more know they'll get more, especially in the long run, and no amount of coaxing those who do not contribute more has managed to convince them to change their habits. The actual production ability of each of the two types of workers does not seem to be a factor in this difference. |

Just want to start by saying i didn't think a lot about this, and its just an option so please Nomad or hate replies about how I'm dumb because your idea is better. thanks
I didn't read a lot of this thread because most of it seems to be a lot of back and forth between the same two people, but an idea would be during the mass tests give everyone max skills or even possibly 0 - Max Million SP where they can pick and choose where they want to inject it, so they can fly and test what they want. This will be an even bigger incentive to log into SISI during mass events. After a few days when the SP from participation is given lower every ones skills back down to original levels but with the addition of the 2m normal SP addition that we get for participating already.
I doubt this will be easy since they would have to log every ones current SP before the mass test on SISI to lower it back down after all is said and done and may be too much work to be a realistic option but
This would give those who want to fly everything or " Test " a few days to get into the ships they would like to test barring what isn't seeded like Titans and supers IMO those should be earned and would prevent the Mass test from becoming Titan blob.. It also allows the industry and logistics side of the community to test new features such as the crius expansion for few days at a time if they don't have the skills to test it normally and then reverting everything back to the normal SISI environment where if you want to test it, you have to have skilled it yourself, but you will get an idea of what is the necessary skills to train once you figure out which skills are the most important for the activity you are interested in since you have had a chance to see them in action maxed out.
A disadvantage to the everyone gets maxed skills is that not everyone is going to want to test with max skills since in a lot of cases some skills are not worth skilling to 5 on TQ and any testing would not give a realistic view of what you will be doing on TQ, so maybe even an option to OPT out of the max SP at any time when its given but preferably just give X amount of SP that will give most players a lot of testing options that they can inject themselves leaving the Tester to pick and choose how he wants to participate for the few days. |
