Just as a general question: what modules besides a cloaking device and probe launcher should Covert Op frigates carry? With most of their CPU and highs gone and their fragile nature it seems silly to attempt to be a damage dealer. I wonder if there really is anything worth fitting on them besides perhaps an AB, maybe a WCS, or sensor upgrades?

On my buzzard, I keep an AB, cargo scanner, ship scanner, and cap battery on at all times because I go probing a lot. Other than that, fit whatever else you want

I have a Cheetah and if I want to fit covops cloak and probe launcher I pretty much need to fill the lows with co-proc and that doesn't leave a lot of CPU for anything really worth fitting (Only have Cov ops 4).
I don't even bother fitting anykinda scram/web/weapons on it, simply because it's paper-thin and the cloaks are just too expensive.
If you want a covert ops damage dealer, check out Recon ships. I wouldn't use a covert ops frigate for anything else than probing and providing warp-in points, but then again I ain't rich ;)

Sounds like what I had in mind Yaevep. I think the ship scanners could be dangerous considering you have to decloak to use them (as I understand it.)

after the cloak and probe launcher then you have done what the cov-ops is for.
AB and cap batteries are good (all cov-ops have rubbish cap) Lowslots are for CPU and WCS.
Cov-Ops ships job is purely to find and observe. If you want to shoot atsomething bring a different ship ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What he probably does is using them on abandoned ships ( that he finds in space by using probes) to see if they are worth taking home.

Glad this thread was posted.
Currently finishing off the skills for an Anathema.
Looking at the following fitting so far.
Scan Probe Launcher I Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Empty slot
PL-O Shipment Probe Practical Type-E Ship Probe 1MN Afterburner II Micro Peroxide I Capacitor Power Cell
Co-Processor II Co-Processor II Co-Processor II
It all fits, barely (0.0 PG and 1.34 CPU left) with Covert Ops level 4. I think it's extremely unlikely I'll take it to level 5, so I haven't considered fittings with all that extra CPU.

If you plan to do any kind of gang/fleet ops (i.e. moving towards warp-in spot while cloaked), fit for speed. Even if you couldn't keep both cloak and probe launcher onlined at same time.
Such basic fitting would be: hi: cloak+offline probe med: ab+cap rechargers lows: all nanofibers.
You won't end up using the probe launcher that often anyway. When you need it, offline cloak, turn probes on, scan, turn probes off and cloak back on, and warp to the spot.

As crazy as it sounds, here's my setup:
Highs: Covops cloak, probe launcher, empty slot
Mids: mwd, micro cap booster, 2x sensor damps, warp scrambler
Lows: 2x copro's and a nanofibre
I mainly use this thing while scouting for a bs gang so being able to scramble the targets for just long enough for the bs's come out of warp helps immensely. The cap booster is so I can offline the damps and online the probe launcher and vice versa without having to wait for full cap.
The mwd is so I can uncloak, drop a probe and immediately mwd out of range and cloak, wait out the probe launcher cycle and drop another without being uncloaked for more than a second at a time. That and it lets me get away quicker after tackling once the bs's take over the scrambling.
It's the most default setup but it's been the cause of a fair few kills.

So a quick question on scan probes: Do they work by triangulation or do you have to fly around a system to establish a 'net'?

I have 3 racial jammers on my coverts (both cheeta and buzzard). Have saved numerous corpmates ships and I have never lost a covert while uncloaking to use them.
Ask corpmate to align, uncloak, hit jammers, cloak, corpmate warps with no scrambler on him. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
