is there any reason at all to use the former?
according to the webpage stats the nanos always have better inertia bonus than the IS of the same 'level'.
ex: local hull conversion inertial stabilizers I: -14% inertia local hull conversion nanofiber structure I: +24 m/s, -15% inertia, -15% hull HP
the only reason might be that you are afraid that your hull gets a bit too fragile, but then again, you dont want to get into hull at all anyway. are the extra seconds before you have to warp out worth it?

Inertas are better if all you want to do is warp quickly. Nanos give you mobility, but they also give you extra speed which is great for combat, but when you have to reach 3/4 of your max speed before you can warp (and be aligned of course), the nanos will take slightly longer. This can of course be countered with clever piloting, but when you are stating from stationary (which you usually are when moving from gate to gate) the inertia stabs should get you into warp quicker.

But Nanofibres give a better bonus than inertial stabilisers. |

Yes, but you also have to spend longer getting to 3/4 of your top speed due to the speed bonus it gives you

ah, as I see it, even if the inertia bonus is less on IS, it might still take you longer to get to warp using nanos because of the increased max speed. kind of makes sense.
edit: thanks Sarmaul.

np :). basically, nanos for combat, inertials for travel.

Assuming you're using perfect insta's of course

This is a common myth!
You accelerate as a percentage of your top speed, not as a static value.
Doubling your speed means you accelerate twice as fast, and thus take the same time to reach max speed.
Nanos are better than inertials in every way except for the structure gimp.

Try fitting 7 nanos on the Phoon and you'll warp like a ceptor ________________________________________________

Nano - 15% better inertia, stabs - 14%. Therefore nanos warp faster. Speed bonus is irrelevant because more speed NEVER makes you warp longer. Ship acceleration is based upon max speed, not some absolute acceleration value. proof : cargo extenders decrease max speed, but this doesn't make ships warp faster. If increasing max speed increased time to warp, decreasing max speed logically would increase it. This however doesn't happen. possible objections : overdrives. They decrease inertia, which decreases warp speed, not the speed bonus itself. afterburners and MWDs. They add mass, this affects inertia (looks like agility is deducted from inertia), this increases max speed, not the speed bonus. Proof: if only max speed bonus increased time to warp, logically the time to accelerate would increase by the same ratio as the max spped have been increased by. That would mean a AB/MWD ship (having this mod turned on) would warp 2x/6x times longer. Which is not the case.

Same with the 8x nano geddon.
I've had autopilot turned on while docked, and the undocked with an 8x nano geddon: I've been in warp before the screen loaded.

Yeah if you accelerated at a constant rate, you could fill an apoc with cargo expanders and warp instantly

nano's and an AB
Hit the AB as soon as you start to move and immedately turn it off. It'll get you up to full speed and, once it shuts off, leave you ready to warp.
Great for making big, lumbering ships (like ravens or domis) warp faster

Well, for now at least
That proposed mass reduction effect could make inertials very interesting, especially on ships with AB/MWD, as it would act to increase top speed (by increasing the effectiveness of the AB/MWD) as well as agility. Absolutely no use for fitting decisions right now, of course, but something to keep an eye on when kali versions start coming through on Sisi. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

That works alot bether with a mwd since the duration time is shorte and doesn'y have the mass penalty.
And as the above poster said, the inertias will be getting a mass reduction aswell. this will make them the ultimate warp off module Not sure how usefull it is for traveling unless you have BMs since I prefere speed myself ________________________________________________
