Instapopped a merlin...figure with 2 or 3 more BS's sniping with me we could pop cruisers and BC's just as fine in a few volleys.
how well would you do if i warped in 10 T2 kitted snipers at 180-200km from you? i assume your tachs would not even hit us back!
No my tachyons wouldn't touch you...but then again I don't usually sit there when I'm sniping. I go to the target. Don't wait for it to come to me (unless gate camping). You'd have to warp in on me while I'm already fighting...or while I'm picking my nose at a safe spot =( ---

Well my idea was originally sniping at gates. So as i've been reading it's probably not such a great idea with T1. I will probably go back to hitting belts in my Dom and killing the painfully slow method :)

Also as someone mentioned i'd continue my training towards T2 Guns. I just thought that I might be able to pick a system camp the gate until it got too hot and go to safe spots. At times I would have support with me. However the crux of my question was can I snipe "solo" in a T1 setup and get some kills. If other T2 gun fitted BS's came into the picture as a solo ship i'd just warp off. Atleast i'd hope I could warp off:)
Thanks for all of the helpful information.

Aurora L - 36 damage +100% range Radio L - 20 damage +60% range
I get 183KM on my T2 Tachyon sniper setup. With Radio I'd only get 146KM.
You'll hit smaller ships easier with the T1 ammo, as there is no tracking penalty. But I never have issues hitting cruisers, I just never really try to lock frigate sized ships, as they're dead by the time I lock them. But I do suspect I might have some trouble hitting them.
Bear in mind that there's a (realistically) 6-8% bonus to damage when using T2 guns over T1 best named. Combine that with the extra damage from the ammo and you'll do roughly half the damage at a noticable bit less range.
You won't have the firepower to drop a cruiser before it warps, and it's questionable if you can drop a frigate before it warps, unlikely I'd say.
You could however team up with an interdictor, and have it bubble and jump through the gate when it sees gatefire, you'll have a much better chance then. Or just set up a few of your own bubbles.

dont let these guys distress you.
Think of who you are fighting, not everyone will be using t2 ammo, t2 guns, t2 blah, all the time.
Depends where you are, know your enemies, friends and limits, and you can do a lot in low sec or 0.0 for that matter.
Yeah, a t2 sniper can outclass you, but if your not facing one, why worry about it till that situation?
My advice?? dont work alone, snipe in concert with other snipers, or a gatecamp.

Before T2 ammo. A t2 fitted ship had 20% better stats [optimal, damage, ect] and about 8% more damage from spec skill
so a T2 kitted ship did about 30% more damage and hit about 20% further for a lot more isk and harder fitting!
With the introduction of T2 ammo this has completely changed. Now a T2 kitted sniper can hit at ranges a T1 cant! Which is stupid in itself, but even if the T1 kitted sniper hits back its like half damage!
and for t2 high dmg ammo, well it means how a t2 kitted ship can fit t2 ammo and on top of that 30% get another 25% giving T2 kitted ships >60% damage which is game breaking!!
Vets? I had tech II rails and tech II cruise missles at below 15 mill SP... . If you change that to "puts pvp dedicated chars in a league of their own" then I would accept it as a correct statement and would point out that thats fine that how the game is supposed to work.
