Wise decision :) You won't regret this once you get the hang of the game, and find a good corp with some cool people to play with...
Originally by: Tobk So by heavly armed POS do you mean "computer controls" defenses or just a lot of players around protecting the area?
A POS is a base you set up at a moon with an amount of PowerGrid and CPU just like a ship. You can then "fit" different things to that POS, like Corporate Hangar Arrays, moon mining equipment guns (someone correct me if I'm wrong here, I've never set up a POS)... A deathstar POS is used as a reference to a VERY heavily armed POS. These POSes are capable of popping a battleship in mere seconds. The guns used here are "computercontrolled" and behave the way the person setting it up has selected. For instance, all members of the corp owning the POS can safely warp to the POS, while others who don't have any standings will be targettet and attacked by it.
Originally by: Tobk "If you log off in a POS your ship will warp 1,000,000km in a random direction then dissapear after a short period of time, unless you have been involved in some form of PvP, in which case your ship will vanish after 15 minutes until you log back in."
humm, could someone explain that a bit more? So if you log off in a POS your ship just gets "sent to the dogs" (basically) in a random direction? That kind of sucks.. Also, how about logging off in a titan/mothership/etc, aren't they not able to dock?
When you log off your ship warps off in a random direction where it stays for a while before dissappearing. The spot you end up at is usually (basically always) an empty spot in time, so you're "safe" there. Except if people wanting you dead have probes to scan out your location and manages to do so before your ship dissappears (this is the reason for the PVP flag making it take longer to dissappear, so people you're flagged to have a bit longer to find you).
I know Titans aren't able to dock, and I don't think motherships are either, not 100% sure about that though.
Originally by: Tobk And what's considered PVP? Even if I fired a laser at some ship, it takes me 15 minutes for my ship to log out? What if I haven't been involved in PVP, how's my shipping logging out then?
Basically everything in this game is PVP as you always interact with other players in one way or another. What people usually mean when they talk about PVP though is player vs player combat. When you agress another player you'll notice a flag counter in the upper left corner of the screen showing you how long you're flagged and to who...
