Re: Distress Signal from Raskaan Veyden Wormhole Survivors
Dear Capsuleers
This is a candid appeal for your aid in an emergency.
Evidence has emerged that the Probe-class frigate which was previously considered lost with all hands in wormhole system J100040 may have left behind some survivors. Search and rescue efforts were previously conducted but were unsuccessful in locating the wreckage and the Raskaan Veyden was registered as lost with all hands.
A distress call from Tech4 News reporter Mielikki Valpuri has since been detected and can be heard on the Tech4 News GALNET site. As you can hear we have cause to fear for her health and her state of mind.
It has been difficult to determine an exact timeframe of her messages due to distortion phenomena from the interaction of the in-system black hole and surrounding wormholes. She has survived for several weeks but there are fears that her damaged lifepod may be unable to sustain her for much longer.
Tech4 will be broadcasting a public appeal as soon as we locate key personnel. Whilst I appreciate that relations between Tech4 and the capsuleer community have been less than ideal in recent days, I would ask that those issues could be put to one side. This is an opportunity to prove to everyone that, despite our differences, we are all united in our humanity.
With grave sincerity and deepest gratitude.

I'm otherwise deployed, stats retrieved from resources:
http://www.wormnav.com/index.php?locus=J100040
Lowsec entry, class 1 wormhole. wormhole entries exist for 24 hours. I'll see if I can't get a scanner ship out here to work on finding an entry. No promises.
Also found info on former inhabitants within the past few months, sending requests for information... |

I cannot deviate far from my patrols but should I see such a WH I will most certainly help someone in need. |

This is at least one thing that we see eye-to-eye on, Kithrus. Being stranded in unknown space is no picnic.
I'll help if I can, but I'm afraid I'm a bit out-of-the-way. |

I thank you all for your kind words and good will.
Tech4 has now issued an official appeal to mount a search and rescue operation. It can be heard on our GALNET site here.
Mielikki's fate is now in the hands of others. |

Indeed, even though she may have supplies for a couple of weeks this will be no walk in the park to locate the correct system.
I have also re-assigned a covert operative who is between operations to assist in the search. And have put out requests with various contacts to be on the lookout for J100040.
Hang in there Mielikki! |

Perhaps chain-collapsing a static C1 would be the best route (albeit somewhat time consuming)? I will have to run some calculations in order to investigate the feasibility of such efforts. |

I'll be able to more actively assist with such efforts as early as this next coming monday. Until then, cash reward stands for people who have more time than I do should Mielikki be found and confirm who was responsible for it. Should a fleet find the missing, reward will be split between those responsible in the fleet. |

Unfortunately, due to the fact the Raskaan Veyden was attacked in a Class 1 system, it will actually be somewhat more difficult to find her. The normal technique for locating a specific wormhole space system is what is known as "chain collapsing", where a static wormhole of the appropriate class is collapsed and re-scanned repeatedly until the correct system turns up on the other side. However, the ratio of total mass to per-jump mass of a Class 1 is very high, especially for the predominant static Class 1 wormholes. This makes collapsing them a much more lengthy proposition.
Assuming the lowest-mass class 1 wormhole type, the Z971 with its 100 million KG overall mass (which a gang of 4 capsuleers can collapse at a pace of roughly once every five minutes), is being rolled at maximum rate ((OOC: and not factoring in server downtimes)), and given that there are 348 Class 1 wormhole space systems in the general cluster, it would take 29 hours of nothing but rolling holes to get 348 chances. This is clearly a problem; having multiple people rolling C1 statics would be helpful, HOWEVER, the Z971 is the only 100 million KG wormhole in existence (all other wormholes leading to Class 1 space have 500 million KG of total mass) and it is rare: my search of the StaticMapper database has only turned up one system (a class 2 black hole) that has a Z971 static (said system also has a static wormhole leading to hisec).
That being said, static wormholes follow a uniform distribution when selecting their destinations. So, every time someone scans down a C1, they have a 1 in 348 chance of finding Mielikki.
P.S. I will notify my corporation and alliance of this matter, and see if they would be willing to join in lending their assistance. |

I have been doing some further thinking on this matter...and even though it would be rather impractical to cycle through all 348 C1 systems by chain collapsing a single C1 static in a single WH, it would be much more feasible if several groups with access to C1 statics chain collapsed them in parallel.
Also, I have been able to pull activity logs for the system ((via Staticmapper)) and it seems that there has been frequent activity in J100040. I am surprised that nobody has found Mielikki yet. |

While you're checking wormholes, I'm going to drop some extender probes in quiet corners. They may have ejected and drifted through a 'hole into local space.
'Course, that means they could be anywhere....but I'll keep looking. |

Instead of chain-collapsing -- do we know where the exit terminus appears in local space? We could set up a sensor-net by sending a series of probes into wormholes that are in close proximity to each other. With a little luck, we could just relay sensor data through the network into charted space. |
