gate rats should be removed now anyway... was in a recent patch that they were being removed i thought?
By the looks of things Furhy's statement about the game not informing others of a ships arrival until the local client has loaded it will resolve the issue of "graphics lag"...
with that though i also hope to see MORE ability and potential areas fromw hich pirates (and good guys) can catcha nd fight others.
The central issue underlieing all of this is that there currently arent enough areas where folks can fight ... and then once there that the range of a warp scrmabler essentially dictates the range of effective combat.

It's good that jump-in camping will be eradicated with the possible introduction of the server not putting you into space until your surroundings are loading, and warp-in lag will be ceased the same way, but battle will still be in the 20km range.
We still need to be able to adjust the distance we come out of warp.

first hand experience 5 min ago.
2 battleships, lots of drones, cruiser half gone when i got active, but at least i could watch the explosion. 
camping is fine with me (of course), but the way it s done makes it battleships only.
sad.

I consider jumpins to be a exploit of the game mechanisms. Why?
Eve is a simulator of sorts, and if the game was real life, combat pilots would not lose the possibility to control their ships (or view the surroundings) at all.
Using the fact that the ships appear in space before the client system has loaded gives the campers a huge advantage. The guy jumping in cant activate any modules or even see the attacker when they blow his ship apart. That, to me, is not the way it should be.
That said, I think pirates should be able to stay in empire space. Having guns at all gates are a bad idea. At least give pirates a way to jam sentries. Today, they use shield transferers and transfer shields to the ship taking the beating from the sentry gun. Again, taking advantage of a flaw in design in the game.
I dont think its good that pirates have to use exploits or flaws to pirate in empire space. Its unfair since you are supposed to be able to play as a pirate. Of course the game could allow pirates only in 0.0 space, but I dont like that idea at all. Too much carebear over the whole thing.
But I do think the fights should be made as fair as possible and not rely on exploits and flaws to win a fight. Outnumbering or out-thinking the opponent is fine, and thats how it should be instead.

The other thing is the amount of energy needed to build a wormhole (jump point). This is amusingly speculated upon in the book "How to Build a Time Machine" by Paul Davies.
The 3rd thing is physics of space travel, acceleration, gravity pull, etc.
4th issue would be sound in space.

but you should jump to a safe spot when entering a system.
like to a couple of sentry guns in the middle of nowhere. not another gate that can be camped by pirates. a system held under pirate control should be like a roach motel. you jump in fine, but you can't get out - until you call your buddies... and they come help you. or you bid on the bounty channel for "rescue". or you leave your ship, get in a shuttle and die like a real wo/man at the gate.
these things would make the game a lot more fun, and you also wouldnt have a problem with lag or load time. if you warp to another gate, the question is... will CCP still allow gate camping?

We NEED gate camping .
We dont need spawn camping.
Its starnge though, we tried it along time back, and we never had any success .
we never seemed to be able to make enough lag for the incoming rat , we was usually gone before we could lock him , and thats with drones out .
Where as when i jump in, i seem to have mad amounts of lag and cant do jack.

But then they are already on their way to the gate without checking local. It's a lose/lose situation. If I leave it on AP, I won't know what could be at the gate. If I turn AP off I'm more likely to die at the jump-in point. It stills seems to come down to "check map and avoid bad systems tonight" rather than "take my chances". Fix the lag and we'd all take our chances...

REAL Pirates will say jettison the cargo or die!!!
REAL Pirates will at least say somthing to you as you float away from a million isk junkpile..
REAL pirates will steal,cheat,backstab, and just do any dirty tricks they can to get some cargo from you besides killing for bio mass that sells for 200isk.
IN truth I have ran accross some out there in the beyound, (0.0) the campers and griefers are easy to get around. Its the one that comes in the belt to fight that gets me.

As you come out of warp, on occasions it takes a few seconds for the pilot to overcome the effects of the physical trauma gate jumping can cause. This dis-orientation is often called "lagging".
There you go CCP, lag explained. NO need to change anything, its just fine the way it is.

Sorry but your wrong. Your giving your opinion on how someone should play a role in YOUR world. That's quite against the spirit of the game and general game play. Players can play any role as THEY see fit.

The problem isnt jump-in camping, the problem is the act of creating as much lag as possible for the players jumping in.
All the angels and the puny men of god looked away... Frightened to death by the evil that was born on that day!
