I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on the correct etiquette regarding the encounter of other pilots in the same 'hunting' ground as you.
Obviously, you can't just fire first, but should it be 'I've got a bigger ship so please go away' - I can see a chance of the spiteful Space Rage happening and was wondering if Concord are planning to introduce a 'Code of Conduct'?

just messg/convo them and ask what they are doing, and if they mind you watching/hunting/checking out surplus cans etc.
If they refuse convo/messg, then it is probably wise to run away.

Etiquette would state that the one being in the belt first "owns" that belt. However there's always the I-got-bigger-guns-than-you people that doesn't care about etiquette that will simply make their claim and ask you to shoot back if you don't agree with their point of view :)
So etiquette is not the same as a law, some are polite and care about others, some just care about themselves. But it's not a concord issue, in my opinion.

Etiquette demands you to pilfer their loot.

Do what you can get away with...
If you're 2nd but have bigger guns, you own the belt
If you're 2nd but have a faster ship, you own the cans

Thanks for the replies, I am of the opinion that if you are at the belt first, then you should 'own' the belt, but then if someone else arrives with bigger guns, or faster ship and you ask nicely that they go and hunt somewhere else and they refuse then what can you do?
i.e. you are in 0.1-0.4 space, can you fire a warning shot or webify them or something? What consquence would there be?
Obviously I think that there should be a code of conduct, or at least some manners involved, I mean these youngsters today don't even know respect!

The consequence is a very annoying sec hit, unable to defend your belt you have to let them carry on or risk a sec hit only for concord to blow you up at a later date for merely defending your ground.

Rile them up so they attack you first. Taking their drops accomplishes this perfectly, and if you're kitted properly you can tear apart their ship before they their second salvo. (I'm thinking close combat Punisher here, harr)

You take a security hit, but that's all. If you have a positive sec rating (rediculously easy to get through Agents), you can blast them to pieces or attack first.

Excellent, so tiny sec hit cool....
I suppose I'd like the idea of a 'code of conduct' because it would offer the game something different, a more gentlemanly style, some finese, rather than 'text speak' and 'I've got bigger guns so get off my land' type of thing.
Some general niceness would make a change

Don't expect people to be nice in 0.4 and lower. Always expect them to be cold-hearted killers who will stop at nothing to annoy you.
Shooting them indiscriminately will be a whole lot easier then!
(I'm a gentleman, btw, generally leave ppl to their little belts. I do not, however, expect to be graced with the same sentiments from others.)

If your in 0.4 system or lower, chances are people wont care about a security hit and simply try to kill you. Bes ting you can do if someone warps into your belt is wait and see what they are up to, and its up to you how you want to respond.

Des !!! Thats PiRaTcY or PK .....
Well, some of your guys are trapped in low secure space with a negative standings atm. Only thing they can do is npc hunting. They have 'only' Blackbirds.... 5-6 times per day get attacked by some carebaers. result of this : 2 Battleships destroyed and a couple of cruisers The best loot what this carebaer 'pirates' dropped were 2 Miner 2.

One of the things I like about EVE is that there IS no real established etiquette. You can play however you want to, just be aware of the consequences of your actions. You can play nice, as long as you're aware that there are people out there who can (and will) take advantage of it. And if you want to play evil then be ready to get spanked by CONCORD or driven out of empire space.

I might have been doing this wrong the whole time, then. When I arrived at the belt I just started mining away, but not on the same rock as someone else, that does seem impolite. I've never had anyone say anything about it. I never thought anything about it if I was there first and someone else comes in.

When i hunt and someone joins in, i just gang them and share the isk. when it comes to loot, the one you kill is yours to have. its only fair. but as some pointed out, it is the pilot that was at the hunting grounds in the first place 'owns' it. i dont like putting it that way, i like to say 'reserved the spot' instead. but it is never too bad to follow your gut. When you arrive at a prime hunting spot to find someone else there, good form would be to message them to ask (politely) how long they will be hunting there, so you can time your return. The ôownerö then has the option to be magnanimous and invite you to stay and share the kills and loot. Of course, you are probably best off checking the other party's security rating before you engage in any polite conversation -- you don't want to end up as another notch on their turret barrel. PS: Izreje, this thread is really about hunting, not mining. You are generally OK mining in the same field as someone else, as long as you are not mining from the same rock or mining so close to them that you could be stealing ore from their container.

Excellent thanks for all the responses, it does appear, that contrary to all the other things one hears/reads that there do seem to be a lot of 'mature' players who have a bit of respect.
Now all the devs need to do is establish Player Factions, so as we could have a nice faction and an 'evil txt spk m8 l8rs I own you' faction!
