Do you all remember your first week of EVE? Yelling at Aura every time you started the game and having to re-do the tutorial? Getting excited every time you shot your guns at rats because YOU MIGHT DIE?!
Oh wow, every time I go through my skillsheet and look at Gallente Frigate, Gallente Destroyer, etc, I keep remembering my first few days of EVE.
I remember getting my first frigate... the Maulus. I was so excited! The ship was soooo cute! I was like "wow, these Gallente ships are the most advanced in space technology, we're the best!"
Seeing jumpgates activate and fire was amazing. Warping and getting that sick-to-your-stomach feeling when you see planets whiz in and out of view. Locking negative sec players at gates then saying "hi!" in local. Hearing Surplus of Rare Artifacts and Red Glowing Dust come up in the playlist and turning the bass up all the way!
Those were the old days.
Now my little Maulus experience has turned to a different play: www.siigarikitawa.com It's the other side of the coin. It's a crazy world out there.
The thing I like about my new corporation is the fact that I have both a ton of older players, and a lot of new players. I heard so many newbie questions over the past few weeks that it just makes me giggle.
Everyone, embrace and remember your first weeks of EVE. They're something to cherish dearly. _____ www.siigarikitawa.com CEO and Fleet Admiral of HelpCorp United |

Above all, I wish I could start again.
But I like my character too much, though I lack the learning skills that I am too lazy to train right now.
However, I remember being amazed at the size of the dominix compared to my bantam and the cool apoc and ravens and scorp npcs (which i always got mixed up) when doing missions with my friends. Chilly Con'PwnzorÖ |

I didn't play in the first week, this game looked so boring with the endless turtorial that never wanted to finish.
After 2 weeks I decided to give it another try and I am still here .

I remember when i didnt know what each ship did, mining in my bantam, or later my cormorant. Everything was so new and fresh and i didnt have a plan or worry.
Basically, life was sexy as hell

My first week of EVE consisted of joining Ushra'Khan and getting OMGWTFBBQPWNED by the 690 some odd wars they had going on. Then I joined Carebear Cowboys only to get war decced by a bunch of guys in battleships who claimed they were "hired" to take us out, and THEN...
/me goes on about all the wars he's been in. =============================================== *If you don't want me to complain about WCS then don't complain when I gank you with a 5 man fleet just so I have enough points on |

Edited by: Koinski on 07/07/2006 16:43:20 I remember seeing Bistot in Empire. I remember Amamake being 0.0. I remember the error logs, i remember 250 projectile artillery being the Uber weapon. I remember it took one month to get into my first Stabber and then loosing it in Molden Heath the next day. Were those the days?... Na... still fun.

I think I spend most of the time writing my Notepad full of info, like which ammo is for which gun, which gun for which race, what kind of ships exist and all that...made my head hurt :)
But that part gets over rather fast, and you start to get a clue.
The first weeks in EVE were awesome, only met by a few other things happening later that meet the same amazement.

I remember losing my first merlin to a 0.6 belt rat, then realising that the merlin was completely and utterly inferior to the kestrel. Got one of those, and never looked back.
Also, when I joined, I remember very little of tutorial, but I can't remember exactly what it was. Wasn't the new fangled thing around today though God I feel old now, and I'm only 18months in I think

Back in my first week Aura didn't exist, and the tutorial was much less helpful than it is now =P
I do remember hunting convoys every day though, and making tons of cash doing it. And the few thousand harvesters I took the time to loot gave me a nice influx of cash around Castor and Exodus =D Another thing that stands out is the first time I went ratting, and hearing the spooky pirate chatter in the belts. And mining for a full week to get my first Apocalypse to rat properly

Mmm... My first week... Appearing in Todaki, doing the tutorial and panicking when some combat drone in the tutorial started shooting me for 0.0 damage.
Randomly joining a corp based based on one of the members answering my question in the newb help chat.
Training mining skills
Probably the biggest thing I miss, is the unknown. Everything felt so big, watching an Apocolypse fly past and literally being in shock. Setting destination and being annoyed at the prospect of having to go a whole six jumps. Everything felt so endless, and the awesome backstory and trying to find bits of info on it ingame.
That feeling kind of dies away after a few weeks though, which is a real shame. It's only beaten by the feeling you get when you first pirate
IMO there's a lot that could be done to improve the immersion in-game. Like I said, for the first few weeks, completely immersed, then you realise that the backstory has pretty much no effect on day to day playing, just a random event every few weeks.
I'm looking forward to factional warfare, should make things a bit more interesting storyline wise Your signature is too large! Please resize it according to the forum guidelines. Jacques Archambault |

Along the immersion talks, what if there were big things happening around you all the time with normal gameplay?
Imagine if when that Apoc approaches a gate, you can hear the giant rumble of the engines and become more immersed. What about guns? These guns are ENORMOUS. Maybe if they left a residue stream behind briefly, such as smoke, steam, or gas? That would be super cool. _____ www.siigarikitawa.com CEO and Fleet Admiral of HelpCorp United |

My first week was great. Went hunting on day 2 in Decon(0.4)with other noob corp people. I got jumped in my Maulus by a pirate, who when she realised that i was 2 days old, replaced my ship(i still have her in contacts)
On Day 3, i got camped in to a station in Decon(ok i now know i couldve got away)and i screamed in noob chat, and 12 people i amde friends with, came to help. We killed the pirate and formed a corp. It was great. Thats almost a year ago now though :(
Memories!

Later on I learned that Amarrs are supposed to use lasers. What a dreaded mistake... ________________________________________________ My signature exploded :/ |

My first week was actually six months ago on what is now my alt. Was doing lots of mining, and read about ORE in the fiction, figured they'd have the best ore so I made runs into their territory in a little imicus. ----------

My first week culminated in two things.
1) Wow, the merlin is the most awesome thing ever (now third awesome) 2) Wow, missions suck!
Luckily, I got to go to lowsec shortly with my corp. ;) ---------------------------- The opinions expressed by Nico do not reflect his corporation. He's just an ass.

I remember my first pve experience in somewhere near jita in a 0.8 system against belt rats.... I learned an ibis wasn't hard enough ...
so i came back with an awesome condor..... wich pithifully fell against same rats.....
then i decided to actually fit a gun on my ship that wasn't a civilan gatling.. OMG WORKED!!!!!
more or less then i bought a cormorant and the 7x 125mm started to OMFGPWNEverything at missions...

Mining in my Bantam was my world back then... kill missions scared the **** out of me after I warped out from one with my bantam in hull.
That was then though... ---------------

My first week of EVE. I mostly mined and soon a few of us in the Fed. Navy Academy decided to go down to .2 for ratting, pretty fun, until a someone in a domi can over to 'test' his weapons on us.
Oh, I forgot, after I undocked in EVE for the first time, I came under attack, I was being bombarded with (unknown to me at the time) white plume things (Snowballs). I didnt even know how to make the ship go yet. It was a little unsettling. Atleast it wasnt a battleship using smartbombs or anything. I really need a signature. |
