This mission is REALLY irritating me and I could use alot of advice.
I've lost THREE Kestrels and nearly lost a Condor attempting to do this mission. I can clear the first area with no problem. However, either warpgate from the first area leads me into certain death. I always warp into range of multiple Guristas or Angels (depending on which gate I use) and come out close to a large solid object, so the terrible pathing slows me down and keeps me from making a break for the final gate or warping to escape.
I'm using a Mono-something-or-other Booster afterburner, a Shield Booster I, and a Cap booster to keep my shield booster up for the 15-20 seconds it takes for the rats to destroy me.
Any ideas on what else I can do to survive? I've lost so much money on modules and ships from trying to do this mission I'm about to tell the agent to do it herself...

I recommend the missions forum.
But:
- Fit a racial hardner (kin+therm I think for guristas? dunno, don't fight em :)) - Dump the shield booster, go with extenders (passively tanked shields) - Double click to navigate around objects. Don't use "approach gate", as you'll run into objects and have the horrible hull scraping <10m/s problem.

Edited by: Breton Duke on 08/07/2006 07:00:54 Caldari ships are not as suited to armor tanking as Amarr ones. So I'm not sure that it is good advice to go for a passive shield. But I don't really have much experience with Caldari ships yet. Just qualified for a Kestrel a few minutes ago.
Gelre, I wouldn't rush to make that gate. I think you'll find it locked until you eliminate all the hostiles in the area.

Well, there goes Kestrel number four.
I tried shield extenders and actually made it to the third area. Unfortunately, as I warped in, I had zero shields or armor left. Fifteen seconds later, boom.
How do they justify the difficulty in this mission? I never so much as had my shields go under half in the 30+ other level 1 combat missions I've run.

It takes a fast ship with AB. I'm Caldari, but I use a Ripter with 1 mono-hydrazine AB like you, shield booster 1, couple of launchers and a gun. Don't fight in the first area, just AB to the Cartel gate. The second area's the toughest (not really telling you anything you don't already know). AB to the research gate and activate. You'll be low on shields and maybe have armor damage (depending on your ship type) when you enter the third area, but it's a straight fight here. I stand off and use missiles. Kill everything, rescue the crew, and warp out. I have a Kestrel too and I think it's just too slow for this one, at least, if your skills are as low as mine. Speed is the key; you've got to get through that second area ASAP or you're cooked. Best payoff I found so far for L1 missions.

Avoid running straight for the gate at the second area. When I do this mission, as soon as I arrive in the second area, I pick an empty patch of space and run that way. Basically, get clear of the ambush party.
Normally I fire on whatever ships pursue. Once they are gone, I slowly orbit back towards the gate to the third area fixing the shield and/or armour damage. Again, as soon I enter the third area, I pick a direction not blocked by enemy and run that way. Kill the immediate pursuit then work my way back to the damaged ship.
With WC, one of the two second stage areas will be much harder than the other. In the caldari version thats the Guristas base - they have a bunch of jamming frigates in the ambush party, which makes it much harder to deal with as they stop you from beeing able to fire back. I'd recommend you try the other base route, it should have an easier ambush party awaiting your arrival.

I managed to get through it earlier in a Condor.
Being able to get up to nearly 800m/s with my afterburner on really helped alot. I still took a few hits in the second area, but I still had plenty of shields left to deal with the third area...
Lost a good deal of ISK on that mission, but I suppose it was a learning experience.
Thanks for the strategies, everyone.

It's necessary to kill only the 2 rats guarding the Heron, and they're pretty easy. Go in the Angel Cartel gate and avoid all unnecessary combat. Turn on your AB and go for the gates. Once you're in the third pocket you're essentially safe, if you stay away from the rat cluster.

Merlin:
HI: 2 125mm railguns 2 standard missile lauchers
MED: 1 shield booster 1 Cap recharger 1 shield extender 1 Afterburner (im using a civillian - i can also do it without an afterburner at all)
LOW 1 PDS 1 thingy that upgrades weapon fire and tracking
That gets me through WC without going below 50% shields - ever and the AB isnt even vital

i did it easily in a condor with some standard missiles and an afterburner.
being able to out run and out range all the rats is pretty much a guaranteed victory.

No...no, you can't use a destroyer. Otherwise this mission wouldn't be so frustrating to everyone. And always choose the Cartel gate, unless you have a big gang with you.

Actually, you can use a destroyer, I did it, twice. Anything smaller than a cruiser works.
My setup for the mission was Thrasher (minmatar destroyer) High: 4x 150mm gallium 1 autocannons with depleted uranium 2x 280mm gallium 1 cannons with nuclear 1x rocket launcher, not sure which one
mid: Cold-gas 1 arcjet thrusters medium shield extender 1 something I don't remember
low 2x mark 1 modified SS overdrive injectors. I could get to about 630m/s with AB and my optimal range was like 23km with the 280s. With the shield extender I had around 1050 shields. Nothing you encounter at this level should be able to hit you at 20+ km. Just run away from the ememies right at the start and set your "keep at distance" to something between 20km and your outside range (my falloff was around 30km but I could only target out to 27). Pick off whoever comes at you with your long guns and snipe who you need to to gt to the next area, though you should be able to kill everything with out getting shot after the initial encounter.
I lost that ship the third time through because I went the gurista path and decided to charge 4 guys that I didn't want to pick off slowy. So to get what was left of my stuff I put a cold-gas thruster on a slasher and a long gun. I got to about 20% shields initially but I was able to outrun them real quick.

When I first started missoning I had real trouble with this too.
Just equip a merlin with 2 rails (iron charge is good for range) 2missile launchers ect... and then aggro 1 group and do keep at range (your max hit range for your rails) while you shoot them, when any of them get a bit too close you can use your missiles, and they shouldnt be able hit you. (I barley took any damage at all)
Takes a while but its really easy like that

yes you can... look in the last patchnotes.
frigs t1 & t2 and destroyer t1 & t2 are allowed to use the gate in Worlds Collide lvl1.

The destroyer makes the mission much easier than by using a frigate. I do it regularly with a Catalyst with little trouble if at all.
Fitting yourself up for regular combat should do the trick. When you warp towards the first gate, the rats will be so far away that chances are they'll barely be in range by the time you activate the gate. Damage should be minimal, if at all. Otherwise, those rats are relatively easy to kill.
The first pocket, the rat base, is where you need to get a bit more tactical. You will warp into range of two strong rats. Immediately turn around 180-degrees and run away. While you do that, shoot down the two rats in your range.
There will be three or four other rats between you and the acceleration gate. Stay out of range, wait for your shield and cap to finish recharging, and then charge in and blast them away. The destroyer's overwhelming complement of guns will take care of them in a very short time. Needless to say, wait until you're fully recharged before activating the gate.
The second and last pocket will warp you into the range of a dozen rats. Fortunately, they are weak and frail and their only purpose is to make your heart skip a beat. Quickly pick a point away from the action and head there. While you do that, shoot down the rats. One railgun per rat should do the trick (since you're flying Caldari.)
Again, using a destroyer for this mission (and most other kill-based level 1's) is like night and day. You get slightly better protection, and can use at least six or seven guns, versus a frigate which can only use two or three.

I apologize in advance...
What I was thinking was, omfg here it comes!, shoving a battlecruiser in the acceleration gate... I know it sounds whack, and u ask how can this be done! And I must say that lubrication is the best way to get through this obsticle... first apply lubrication (oil) to the surface of the acceleration gate. Second, smooth out the lather for a nice even texture. Third run your thrusters on it until burnt. This will momentarily short cirquit the gate allowing you to pass in. Knowing this, You can go in with a cruiser and up and own the living hell out of level 1 missions. Though I don't know why you would want to do level 1 missions when you're in a cruiser unless you are a total n00b... then again a lot of people are n00bs.
Okay I hope this guide has been informative and helps u succeed... I only ask for 30 mill

Edited by: Phrater on 09/07/2006 23:23:43 Edited by: Phrater on 09/07/2006 23:23:12 It's a rescue mission not a destroy mission picking up the crew from the can completes the mission.
I used an Amarr destroyer 7 lasers and a tractor beam but this http://www.eve-online.com/itemdatabase/shipequipment/hullarmor/armorrepairsystems/523.asp is what save my ship.
I turned the repair on just before getting to second gate when shields hit zero.
Avoid fighting jump thru gate 1 then jump thru gate 2 fly away from the 3rd gate killing the 2/3 ships that follow you.
When you've killed the ships that followed turn off repair (fully repaired) stop ship let shields and capacitor recharge head back to container tractor at 20km (or fly to container) pick-up crew warp out.

I followed the sugestion a fellow corp-mate gave me, and it worked like a charm:
Condor 2x missile lauchers w/ bloodclaws 1x AB 1x Shield Booster
tactics: missile-kite. Engage AB, lock a target, keep at 22Km (not orbit) and fire away. Cleared all rooms, via the easy route (cartel gate) Killed 6 destroyers in the process. Only one had range to hit me at 22k so changed tactics on this one - full speed with ab, orbit at 5k or so. alternate ab and shield booster if needed.
Made 300k+ on bounties, which added to the mission reward and bonus made something like 700k, which is a lot when you're at this stage of the game...
good luck

Well I too used to be scared of this mission but now have no troubles with Lvl1 version at least (yet to get it in Lvl2+)
Merlin
1 railgun 2 missile launchers
1 fastest afterburner you can equipe 1 hardener you can equipe 1 small extender 1 invul field if equipe.
Jump to deaspace, head for blood (or whatever) gate engaging AB (should give you ~450 m/s)
Then once in next space head straight for jump gate AB firin'.
Then once in third section engage AB and full speed away from the Heron straight away. Once 10km+ away zoom into the Heron and target the 2-3 gaurds circling it and only those guards.
Hit one of 'em and the others should approach you, pick these 2-3 off. Mission complete, fly to Heron pick up cargo and warp out :)

These missions come from non storyline agents. And the deadspace complexes (Gurista, Angel etc) usually are worth looting

Edited by: Dr Queeq on 10/07/2006 10:56:44 Probably repeating what others have said this thread, but use a condor with a AB, civ Shield booster, PDU & then 1 launcher & 75mm railgun. Hit your AB as soon as you go through the first gate, then at the second gate hit your AB again & make a mad dash to the cartel gate taking out any NPC that attack you. You should only take a few hits by the time your throught the gate. In the last area just orbit the npc's taking them out 1 at a time, they should hardly hit you whizzing around at 800m/s & you can destroy then in 2 hits.
This mission caused me loads of trouble when I started but now I can do it in about 5 minutes.

Edited by: Zaldo on 10/07/2006 11:37:31 Iwe done this 4 times in the last 24 hours, for some reason the agents likes to give me this mission.Using the Cormorant whit 2 small shield extenders a 10mn afterbuner and Civ shield booster.
Head straight for the Cartel gate, ships wont be close enough to fire a shoot at you. Once on 2nd stage swing left and head straight for the gate(only 1 time did they get trough my shields, and dinged my armor a little). On 3erd they dont really do any damage to me,so i take them all out and get the men out.
Good money and good points

I lost two condors on this mission and then cancelled it. Now it's back and since my first attempt I've upgraded my ship. I just configured a Merlin and am ready to give it another try (I didn't know you could stack power diagnostic units. Thanks for that tip.)
A few questions.
I have a 125mm Compressed Coil and and a 75mm Carbide rail gun. I'm using one for long rang and one for short range. What type of ammo are you using?
I'm using 2 'Limo' launchers. What's a good choice for missles?
Should I get rid of my afterburner and concentrate more on shield tanking?
