Hm... I've visited the eve gate, where once my ancestors passed through into New Eden, or so atleast the story goes in my family, where it is told from parent to child, generation through generation... My father told me the story even though he thought it nothing more then a myth.
Whatever 'Earth' was/is, apparently my ancestors felt compelled to leave it and pay a high price to hitch a ride on one of the colonyships into New Eden. Banner will be updated shortly |

If we all fight and war upon each other this much now, seperated by billions of kilometers, why would I believe we could have ever lived harmoniously on one planet.
More importantly, the entire myth of Earth and the origins of man have always been so deeply rooted in religion that I personally want nothing to do with the the entire concept.

I'm not really a religious man myself, but there's not good reason to arbitrarily dismiss a scientifically sound theory just because of the religious association.

I find that the place called Earth is actually mentioned in most of our ancient storys, most of them dating back to before we even before made contact a rather intresting
It is really unlikely, offcourse, but it's after all rather strage

That's a fair point - so many different cultures retained the story of Earth despite millennia of seperation. this suggests a common origin. ____________________________________________________________

I was speaking to a guy at old wilburs synth-ale joint in Taisy the other night who said he once saw 'earth', he passed through some sort of vortex which put him in orbit around a planet that looked just like the 'earth' seen in the texts at the hedion university then he reappeared back where he started only 2 months later, now this guy was pretty drunk but he knew his stuff and you never know, the universe is a strange place, the rest of the night was a blur but I do remember some strippers and a goat! ?

Further to my comments above, I was at a bar the other night and one of my old comrades from the 101st fighter squadron came in and we got talking over a few bottle of whiskey. The booze seemed to loosen his tongue somewhat and he let slip some interesting info. Seems he has been working in the archive section on one particular world(name withheld to protect his identity). He swears there is actual footage on file of old Earth events and other such stuff. Seems that the States vaults have a whole load of Earth related files which they are going to 'use at a later date'. Now what that means I'll leave upto you to figure out.

I would say read your history books, but during my participation in the defence of the Crelerie project taught me that all you will find in main stream history is...
Minmatar histories says "thou shalt not wash"
Amarr histories say "thou shalt enslave the unwashed
gallente histories say "thou shall free the unwashed"
Caldari histories say "we were the first recorded civilization in the cluster, we joinly discovered warp technology allowing us to explore and colonize the stars and although we look similar to the other nations peoples thou shalt kick the fking sht out of any of the 'tards if they try their tricksy ways on us again" As a foot note written in faded ink "p.s. fix the Eve gate and go back for riches untold from the cradle of humanity...."
Or so it was written on this beer mat in this brothe...gentlemens establishment I was taking my easy in a while back.

First, the evidence:
1. Each culture in Eve has an origins story that tells of a distant "paradise" world from which our kind came. They each use a word strikingly similar phonetically to "earth". Furthermore, they each speak of a long voyage, and reference a passage through some kind of gate or portal. Mythology, even though it evolves with religious influences, often holds some nugget of truth at its core.
2. The incredible genetic unity of all peoples, including the Jovians. As repugnant as it may be to some, interbreeding among our different races us possible and results in perfectly viable offspring. And though the Jovians have obvious genetic differences, they still have over 98% similar genetic structure to the rest of us. Realistically, one wouldn't expect any genetic similarity if our races didn't share some unified origins.
3. There is archaeolical evidence of an advanced pan-Evic human civilization pre-existant to our present state. The presence of starbase and starship ruins that pre-date the modern climb into intersteller travel clearly indicate that our species passed through dark ages. Therein we lost contact with one another and developed distinct cultures on different worlds.
4. The archaeolical remains nearest the so-called Eve Gate, suggest that the ancient civilization had strong ties to the "gate". There is even some evidence that the origins of the ancient civilization may have been beyond the "gate". There are supposedly a few references to a specific place beyond the "gate"; a place called "Earth". Again, it is phonetically similar to the term used in the multitude of origins myths.
Please note that I have excluded evidence such as linguistic similarities. History clearly indicates that language evolves quickly, and though there are suggestive similarities in some terminology, one cannot make a strong argument toward unity of origins on this basis. However, the similarity of terms used for the origin world, "earth", is a notable exception.
So, what can we conclude from all of this? I think it is clear that we are one human species and must share a single origin. However, until more is known about the ancient, Proto-Evic, civilization, we cannot make any definitive conclusions. It is probable that somewhere out there is the planet from which we sprang, "Earth". But it is well beyond the scope of our present understanding to say if it was a paradise. Considering the nature of our species, I would say it is highly unlikely that we will find any redemption or hope in the rediscovery of Earth.
Earth may well be a cauldron of human torment, enslaved to religious fanatics with twisted concepts of God. Or, perhaps it is the seat of a vast, evil empire, ready to crush us "colonists" under it's boot heels. It could be just one of thousands of worlds, each struggling for their own survival. It may be the center of interstellar democracy and freedom. Or, it may be dead, long since stripped of all resources.

I have a better theroy, mabue as part of every race with our similar genetic make up it is built with in our minds that because the worlds we grew on were cruel we needed a place to escape from.
A paradice and so on, hence the myths of earth prevalent in every culture.
There is no proof that any of the ancient stargates were build by our ancestors, none at all.
If there was an earth on the far side of teh EVE gate, why don't the jovians take interest in it? The jovians know pretty much everything in the cluster but i've never seen a jovian refrence to earth.
If it was the birthplace of humanity teh Jove would be the first wanting to go back due to all the information, but look there space is as far away from that gate as possible.
Mabye the gate is some kind on ancient weapon system built by a long dead race that scouted out this cluster a long time ago but was repulsed by what they found here.
There are far more explinations then everyone wanting to belive we're all from some stupid none existant rock, that has absolutly no relation to the EVE gate, neevr in any legend is it mentiond, never.
Come back when you have proof

Edited by: Dearnen on 20/07/2006 23:08:59 Conjecture and supposition do not argue well against the provided evidence. Just because the theory supported by the evidence does not answer every question does not mean it is inherently wrong. It does need further examination and refinement, however. Just remember, it is a logical fallacy to assume that a lack of evidence is evidence of lack. Follow the evidence that does exist.
As for the Jovians, I make the same argument. Just because we haven't seen Jovian interest in "Earth" or the "Eve Gate" does not mean they aren't interested. The Jovians are a mystery to us all, and I don't think we can conclude anything one way or another about their interests.

My Great Grandfather was something of an enthusiast on the subject, though he always referred to Earth as "Terra". He had been a part of an expedition into the Pure Blind region a hundred years ago, and claimed to have found records in the wreck of an ancient starship telling of a migration from Terra through the Eve Gate and the strife that followed when the gate collapsed.
Unfortunately, according to his story, the expedition was set upon by Guristas pirates and had to abandon the wreck.
I know it sounds sketchy. Grandfather was always somewhat eccentric, and he loved his wine. Believe it if you want, I guess. -------------------------------------------------- A Storm is coming... |

As has been said before, there's way too much evidence, including that dating back to before the four civilizations first contacted each other, to completely discount the idea of a single mother planet. Will we ever find it? Will that thing in New Eden ever open up so we can go back again? Who knows? But for right now, there's enough going on that we can deal with right here in our own corner of the universe to keep us occupied.
Of course, it's entirely possible that if Earth does exist, they've been watching us like we're one, big, massive sociological experiment and technological testbed. *chuckle* I kid, I kid.
Or do I...?

On a scientific front has anyone ever found any shipwrecks, predating our technology by millenia, and of "exotic" design drifting about?I`ve never heard of any and i find it difficult to believe, no mater how technologically advanced "they" were, they wouldnt have lost a good few ships in such a large migration as our amarrian scriptures allude too...waits for a knock from the Inquisition for heresy.

It will probably never cease to amaze me this Earth nonsense is one of the longest living top topics on IGS.
Don't people really, in this age and time, have better things to do and think about than to make up fancy theories from ancient legends that have no significance whatsoever to the current ideals and politics?
