I'm trying to build a JF at a tower using the advanced large ship assembly array. One of the inputs is the T1 frieghter. The only way to get the freighter to the tower is to fly it there, then store it in a ship maintenance array, then it can be moved to the assembly array.
However, unpacked it shows up as a -1 to the inputs and cannot be used. But I can not find a way to "repackage" a ship at a pos!
How do you actually deliver the required input in packaged form, when its a capital class ship?!

Just a guess, but you might have to use another freighter to take it there?

Packaged capital ships are too big to fit into a freighter.
Curious to see the answer to this one myself.

Maybe they can't be made in a pos?

Welcome to EVE, your first day around here?
Oh by the way, I hope this is your forum alt, or people might be looking for a POS with a cooking JF. |

Ya well there is nothing cooking now, missing a packaged freighter, quicker to go back to station. |

Yes, I believe this was an oversight.
Before Crius you could fit a packaged freighter inside another freighter. However several of the capital ships, (dreads and carriers) had a 1,000,000m3 size when packaged. With freighters having low slots added max cargo size went from just under 1,000,000m3 to well over 1,000,000m3.
So to prevent dreads and carriers from being brought into high sec as packaged ships inside freighters they made all packaged capital ships 1,300,000m3. For some reason they included freights and jump freighters in this.
My guess is that nobody at CCP thought about moving packaged freighters to a POS for building jump freighters.
However I do not see this as much of a problem. First of all, jump freighters are very expensive to build, the components are equally expensive. Building one at a POS makes your POS a very big target. If you are building jump freighters there, you can build the T1 freighter there as well and keep it packaged.
Most players who build jump freighters, including myself, build them in stations. It is much safer, although per-crius it cost more to build in advanced ship assembly arrays than it did in stations, now with the material reduction it may be worth it.
To be clear, yes, currently the only way to build a jump freighter in a POS is to also build the T1 freighter there. |

Thats what I concluded. The cost difference is substantial between a station and properly configured pos, for now I'll just have to build the freighter at the pos as well. Hopefully ccp will make it possible to package ships stored out in a ship maintenance array in a coming update. |

Just report it as a bug. This is a bug - every thing should be possible to build on a pos not always by building all components, but by importing some stuff.

Actually, pre-Crius a packaged freighter was also 1,000,000m3, which prevented it from fitting inside another freighter. That's why you had to hire a pilot directly to move a freighter rather than simply putting them into a courier contract for the likes of Red Frog.
I even raised the point during the Crius discussions that freighters should be treated differently than other capitals and have their package size lowered rather than raised. The argument for increasing packaged capital size was to prevent carriers and similar from being hauled through high sec. But freighters are already allowed in high sec, so where is the harm in allowing them to be hauled when packaged?
Received several likes, but never any comments. I suspect the reason it was never acted on was that allowing a freighter to haul a packaged freighter would open the door up to moving two freighters into a wormhole at the cost of a single one's mass. |
