Stop giving out the codes for game time card, instead have them stored under the account information sections. Give them three options, Use, Sell or donate.
Then the player select sell they are taken to the sales forum or possibly the new contract systems. Then the sale is complete the GTC is automaticly transfered to the buyers account. CCP can then restrict real cash sales to them selvers making it harder for ISK farmers to cover there ingame ISK to real cash.
This would still alow real players use the cards but limit the abuse that is currently going on as seen in the lasted ISK sales spam.
That do people think ?

Agree People who purchase GTC's from other players (with ISK) should never see that code. There should be no way to use GTC's to turn ISK into $$ (which is what happens when people re-sell their ISK purchased GTC's at a discount for $$)

Really nice idea.
Perfect for the new contract system (which will replace escrow and support auctions) to support auctions of GTCs in a similar way. New sig coming soonÖ By "soon" I do not necessarily mean "this year" |

You realise that that basically gives the Ebay market a pickup shot in the arm, right Avon?

How do you figure that Maya? People can still buy GTC for cash and sell for ISK, but ISK farmers are unable to buy GTC for ISK and sell for cash. It closes a loophole that allows the legitimate sale of ISK for cash, and that is all.

The "loophole" which you're refering to is one of the major things which has crushed the EBay market.
It makes it unprofitable for people like Yantis/IGE to compete in the Eve space, they're FAR more of a problem than a few farmers (who you can report and ban), especially given their preferd tactic across many games for buying up corperate/alliance/guild/whatever in-game currency stockpiles and selling it.

Huh?
IGE works because people want to buy gold/ISK.
But GTCs undercut that, and thus people can sell GTCs for ISK at a better deal. Thus IGE has no market in EVE.
I think this is a great system, and will stop the current GTC scams (which probably consist of people getting tons of ISK quickly and then buying a service or the like with it to benefit another character).

I think you are reading my post back-to-front Maya, honestly. You want to encourage people to be able to sell ISK for $$?
What I propose prevents them doing that in a legitimate way. It does nothing to prevent people buying ISK for $$ (via GTC's).

Im with Maya on this one
If you stop people using GTCs to sell for isk they will simply go to Ebay. I wont say I like selling GTC for Isk but its better than Ebay as Ebay is always about the farmers lining their own pockets with RL cash while GTC sales is about people buying their way through Eve with RL cash. Its a subtle difference but an important one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Um what do you mean?
How is that "with Maya"? The OP wants people to continue selling GTCs for ISK, without the risk of scamming. Maya doesn't want this to happen.

No, Avon, I'm not.
I'm pointing out that sale ability is what bars IGE/Yantis from meddling with Eve. Yes, you'll have small-time farmers and macro miners. CCP can deal with then quite easily. IGE/Yantis is something else entirely, and they do a LOT more damage - especially to established communities.
(I believe IGE/Yantis far more than anything else is the enemy, bluntly)
And no, Dark, I'm pointing out a drawback with the plan (which, incidentlly is flawed...I'm not going to explain here though since you can do it right now too).

1/Buy ISK with GTC = allowed and protected. 2/Buy ISK from online ISK sellers = not allowed, not protected, risk your account. 3/Sell ISK by selling an ISK bought GTC for $$ = allowed, no risk to account. 4/Sell ISK for $$ to an online currency seller = risk to account.
What is proposed is getting rid of option 3. How could you object to that Maya? Unless...

Because it'll revive at least part of the Ebay market, Avon. I'm not saying that it should STOP CCP, but it's something which needs to be considered carefully, and should be acompanied by an increased range of payment options (Mastro/Switch at the VERY least).
And...
Unless I happen to be someone in the industry who studied these issues quite extensively during his degree and has a pretty good idea what IGE/Yantis does, yes.
I also have friends who play Second Life and who do RMT in that, which is fully legitimate, and discuss their experiences with them on a regular basis.

Step 3 only gives a legitimate front to selling ISK for $$, it doesn't remove any of the associated problems. It is just as harmful as IGE & friends.

No, it's not. Because it's a market with fewer and smaller sharks than IGE/Yantis.
At least one early minor Eve war (and possibly others)was caused entirely by Yantis. His pawns lost the fight for the mining spots.

The orginal idea was to remove the current legal way that they can sell isk. Hopefully CCP can deal with the current illegal e-bay sales by banning both the buyers and sellers accounts. I was trying to stop the current GTC spam and deal with the why they are abusing the GTC system.

So basically make it so that people can't sell them on ebay for money, they can only sell them for ISK, and it will be harder for people to scam? /signed!

No, against the EULA. There's an important difference.
Azulya, yea, stop selling the physical items so shops can't sell them. Oops. And CCP can regulate payment out of game how? Oh, they can't. It dosn't affect the people you're after one bit, and it stops the people who bought the physical cards for their own use from playing!

You can make it work without removing physical cards from existence. All you have to do, is make it so that selling a GTC for isk, requires entering the code on the website. Then the code is effectively used to pay for game time, and the in game auctions are used for selling paid game time.
Since the person purchasing time with isk never sees an actual GTC, they can't sell it for cash. Real GTCs could still be sold by stores though. |
