There is a bug where when you use your warp drive your drones just sit there and don't return to your cargo hold and then they get killed because for some reason they can't even fly around anymore when you leave.. well here is the solution! Make it so drones automatically return to your bay when you start trying to warp, and make them do it FAST, like when you tell them to engage target they fly FAST, like that, so they won't get left behind.

That's a good solution. Why aren't you doing that?
Just give the order to return to bay before you warp out. They come back in a hurry, and since the last hotfix I haven't had them stop at 1505m and stare at me like they used to.
And they shut down when you leave because they're controlled by your ship's computer, and don't have onboard AI routines. Otherwise you could warp in, launch all your drones, then go safespot or cloak or something and let your little ninja bots do the work for you.

When I tell them to return they do it at extremely slow speeds compared to how fast they can go when they want to, and half the time they just sit there doing nothing. Besides, they should return when I start trying to warp, there is no reason for them not to.

its not a bug. its an intention.
When you warp off, it usually means that things aren't going to well, and u didn't have time to collect your drones before warping.
Theres no Bug, therefore no Fix needed.

I take it you have not done many missions. On some occasions, you won't want your drones coming back when you are desperate to get out to save your ship. The NPC ships that are shooting at your drones instead of you can mean the difference between you warping away in a ship or a pod.
You get aggroed by too many NPC's at once and you can be begging your ship to warp as you see your structure passing the 15% mark. If the drones came back automatically, the NPC's that were shooting at them now start on your ship and your ship magically turns into an egg.

Drones are still 'forgetting' they have MWDs on return to ship. I've had them moving absurdly slow and they like to keep dancing at 1500-1700m if you are moving instead of overtaking you and docking. I'm not sure why the return to ship command is so hard to get right, but it apparently is.

Yes that's what I meant.. it would be nice if they would auto return but I see the other guys point on that.. the problem is that when I tell them to return they don't they just sit there or they come towards me extremely slowly for no reason.. but sometimes they don't even return when I tell them to, they just keep "fighting".. I thought those were bugs..

They just need to fix "return to drone bay"
FYI, if you do not know..if you use "return and orbit" then use "scoop to bay" they actually work...fairly reliably ____________________________________________________ Faeden Pain

Thanks.. tried that.. it seems to work be less buggy then "return to drone bay", but they still come back very very slooooooooooooooowly.. and why even have "return to drone bay" clogging up menu when it doesn't even work? =/ If it's not going to be fixed may as well be removed.
