At the moment, T2 sniping battleships in groups of ten or more is the end-game. If you can do that, you've got military superiority just about everywhere.

Not realy, if you have 10 and the enemy has 15 they have superiority

There is no endgame because the goalposts are always moving. In fact, not even the pitch stays in the same place!
Once, Amarr ships dominated as lasers were uber. Then lasers were nerfed and Minmatar ruled. Then tracking was introduced and Ravens became dominant whilst you couldn't give away Tempest bpc's. Currently the T2 sniper is the king of fleet action and Megathrons and Tempests are favourite again. The only constant is change!
So it's all a compromise. You need to specialise in order to be good at a few things instead of mediocre in a lot. But at the same time you need versatility to be able to adapt.

Ship wise theres no end game as stated. Its a matter of goals you want to attain. Ship wise for me I would leave after I got a tech II Apoc or geddon and a Titan, but my soul goal in Eve is to conqure it.

There really is no end game in EVE, at all.
I have billions of ISK and nearly 25 million skill points, but I fly primarily T1 cruisers and frigates.
Nearly any ship in the game is useful in some way or another for some purpose. "Battleships should not be and are not solo pwnmobiles", to quote a dev, and to be honest, this is true for all ships. Every ship has a job, a purpose, and veterans often fly just as many 500k and 10m ISK ships as they do 200m ISK ships.
The most expensive ships aren't the "endgame" because in many ways they are marginally better but far more expensive to lose. A navy raven won't do you anything when you get mobbed by 10 other battleships.
Wrong, end game ship would be a titan, you would be forever doomed to sitting in one if you got one. End game, the end of the game for you (besides hugging POS's and sometimes lighting someone up with the superweapon.

i suggest every1 whos new int he game, to stick with the race they entered with, or atleast with one race.
starting later then others means u have less skillpoints, but if u put these sps in less areas they arent that few anymore ;).
and id say dont specialise in one thing, like interceptors only or battleships or covert - itll get boring soon, just sticking with one race should do it.
enjoy the game ;) - Purple Conquered The World, We the Universe.

All good advice which i am taking to heart. ATM, i am looking at battleships (race) and want to start to plan my char in that direction. That means i need to grab a cruiser skill and a battleship. raise firgate some and spaceship command.
I was thinking of trying a hound.. but that requires points spent in covert ops maxing engin and cloaking.. (all doable). so as i raise the base skills maybe spend a day or two on the other ones and work my way up..
thanks for all the good advice and i can see now taht there isnt a true end game and most good things still get nerfed!

As a person from WoW, with only a couple months under my belt (not sure how long you said you have been playing), let me say
Learn how to fly a cruiser. Make it your best friend. Don't worry about anything else untill you can fly/fit a cruiser like your driving a car. Then go wherever from there.
This game is so remarkably non-linear in terms of advancement/progress compared to WoW. That is why it is cool and doesn't feel like a job.

Drolnori as you will soon relize most major skills have sub skills that increase the overall performance of what your training, e.g medium hybrid turret is a skill to use and do more dmg with medium hybrid turrets, but along with thats skill there is also surgical strike, controled bursts, Sharpshooter, rapid fire and motion prediction, these skills can all be learnt to furhter increase dmg, fall-off range, optimal range, rate of fire, tracking and there are more as well. some skills can take upto 10 days just to train upto lvl 4 so i'd suggest downloading Evemon (link at bottom of post) and planning a skill plan for lets say cruisers or frigs (include sub skills as well) when thats done go onto somehting else, Battle cruisers, Battleships, REcon, Hac's the world is your oyster just expect to spending more than a few days on other skills.
Evemon
If u dont want to use the automatic system to read your skills you can get the xml file needed by clicking my character on the left of this website and right click save as the xml file just below your picture in your characters data.
Good luck adn welcome to eve

Edited by: Drolnori on 13/07/2006 19:31:26 hello again.. and yes -50 dkp! and dont go to the whelp caves!! (LOL)
yea i am gonna work toward battleships.. and during my working at work hours raise those skills that take like 3-5 days, and do the little ones in between.
I have been raising in little increments those sub skills you spoke of, and thats to be more effective. I am going to head over to frigate V then work on some of the enginerring V and one other one..
great advice again guys. Enjoying the game allot.. (just doing the little missions with various ships to learn how to use each type..)

There is. Being able to fly all ships with maxed skills in every department so you can be the nax at all circumstances. In practice however thia takes 8-9 years at present and is always set back every time new skills are being released.
It will take 28 years 3 months 17 hours 5 seconds to train level 5 in everything tbh...
Thanks EVEmon =p.

Capital are the end game without a doubt, as the Devs pointed out that these ships are the player¦s long term goals in EvE.
Of course, EvE provides you with enough options to formulate your own goals, such as scamming together the most ISK ever posessed by one person, or creating a swarm of 150 n00bships, or have all systems of a region full of POSes, and the list goes on and on....
The is no end to EvE, its meant to finance the pensions of the Dev-team, remember ? ________________________________________________

It depends on what you want to do.
For NPC/Missions I would suggest Caldari (Raven) or Amarr for their lack of ammo need.
For PvP I love nothing more than my minmatar ships, though the raven is a good ship up close.
Figure out what you want to do, then you should have a better idea of what ships to aim for.

Hi again!!
well downloaded evemon, great tool. I am closer to minmatar battleships, but understand that i am lacking the skills to be effective in them. Basically, looked at the ship i wanted to grow into, and looked at the setups allot of you suggested and looked at the weapons/gear and researched the skills that i would need to use those most commonly recommended and set out to get there. I stuck in assualt ships at the bottom, of the list along with large projectiles.. hehe..
just wanted to recommend to new players to get eve mon. Do some research and having a goal makes it easier to plan.
thanks!! |
