Hi, like many people in the UK I binge drink have done so for a while. However I am now realising that there are 2 many negatives to carry on this habit.
1.Health well its not good for you really is it (liver cirrhosis, colon cancer etc) 2.Money well its expensive to go out in a city centre and drink ú30-50 for a normal non extravagant night. 3.Violence most assaults in the UK occur on a Friday, Saturday night IÆve seen plenty and luckily only been involved in 1 or 2. 4.I work in a hospital and I can tell you 80% of weekend works involve alcohol related injuries. They way people behave under the influence in hospital while waiting for treatment is disgraceful. 5.Big drink companies making huge profits at the detriment to people health and burden the tax payer eg. nhs & extra policing, but they donÆt pay any extra tax. 6.Regain my weekends so I can do stuff and not feel like crap with a bad hangover!
I donÆt know how hard it gunna be not drinking when out with friends extra but I will try over the next few month or so after all I gave up smoking 2 years ago and donÆt touch tobacco now.

Binge drinking is just stupid. Its not even enjoyable, and it doesn't feel good.
Its horrible for your liver, its expensive, and worst of all it can get you killed if you're not careful. Plus the hangover, oh god.
Alcohol is an evil chemical, and the only proper use of it is in moderation, to be honest. Get a bit high on it, or get mildly drunk, but binge drinking is stupid.

But have you tried explaining to someone who says "I had a great night last night, I can't remember a damn thing after eight pm" ... that they might have been thoroughly miserable the whole rest of the evening? They simply won't, and can't, believe you. ________________________________________________

I get that, i realy don't want to go out some fridays when i know i need to hammer isk on saturdays.... but i allways do.. life/friends are more important
The money thing is a total nightmare also.. 30/50.. thats nothing... friday/sat night in town try 80/100.. 30-50 is what i spend in the village on a friday or saturday night... it starts easy enough at 2.50 a pint, then ends up on double ports.. vodkas 7 quid a drink ect..... that soon racks up when your done and ordering again every 5-10 mins.
But realy in saying that, few years ago now i thought like you did, 7 years without a drink i made it...
Don't do it, the concequences of not going out with your friends on a friday, saturday night are far worse.. you miss too much life
As for the liver cirrhosis and everything yeah, everybody is different, cleary it's not great, but iv'e seen videos of dead peoples livers that drank half of the recommended limit... and they were batterd up like they had been on double the limit.
Ahh well. roll on friday, and i ain't saying im not coming to the party thats going on saturday
Out of interest, i count my drinks/units now.. 44 last week.. probaly not good ______ Long ago one gorgeous night, we let the stars grow free. We let Zhuge do that once, he came back carrying a traffic cone, a forsale sign and three empty bottles of dutch lager. He also lost his Zimmer Frame... - Imaran

Well if it was "last night" I think they would be quite miserable while you were talking to them...

i have a BIG problem with the "binge drinking" label.
as its come from the labour party as an excuse for having a police force with sod all police.
lets take a trip back in time say 25-30 years (ask your dads) on a friday afternoon most workers would hit the pubs at say 1600 and not leave untill midnight or later.
then saturday they'd be in again for dinner time and the football/horse racing on tv, this would carry on till tea time and then most would be back out again for the night.
come sunday its sunday dinner down the local to mull over the night before and have a drink before dinner time roles around and the sunday roast, then it would be crash till monday morning.
none of the above was called binge drinking, it was just how it was and had been since the 1800's. beer was/is an escape for the working classes.
good luck if your aiming to quit booze for ever, but please dont lecture us on here on the evils of drink, same with tobacco.
on a side note you know your not liable to live any longer from not drinking or smoking dont you. death comes to us all and tbh id rather drop while i know who and where i'am as opossed to sitting in some home in a nappy and left to dribble in to my fresh mashed oatmeal.

Do you know what a "binge session" is? 8 units. Yup, thats 4 pints. If you drink more than 4 pints (or the equiv in spirits) in any "session" then that session is officially a binge...

8 units.
4 pints, actualy standard is 2.5 per (normal larger) carling ect...
Gives you 10, thats one out of the system ever hour, add on the 20 mins it takes to reach the liver from the start....
Sound like a geek i know, but it's good to know exactly what you taking in... saves your driving licence the next day.
I tell you now, i go out on a blinder on friday night... i won't be driving till midday at the earliest.. and thats after counting, could well be 3-4 in the afternoon before your legal.
Prime example of a friday night bender is well in excess of 20, probaly 30 or more units, you do that, be prepared to not step near a car till saturday night... by which time you probaly started again anyway.... and thats where it adds up..... basicaly forget driving till monday.
You would be amazed, im betting most of you guys that go out friday night jump in your car on saturday still over the limit...
Count your drinks, count the units..... your worried about health.... DON'T drink at all, moderate or any ammount is bad for you..... trust me iv'e been on the courses, done the theory and know what im on about. ______ Long ago one gorgeous night, we let the stars grow free. the program thingie said he pounds his organs so much they actually work at a much higher capability to that of yours or mine, apparently his liver is like, 3x the size of ours and can take an absolute pummeling. this is why he isnt already dead, and in his 30s.
the guy pounds NINE curries in one sitting, including all starters and condoments like poppadums and stuff, and thats just his evening meal. 40 pints a day may not mean in one particular sitting, although he seems very capable of it, and even if it isnt every day, its say, on friday and saturday. in one go. its still 40 points in one day.

I can't stand myself when i'm drunk. I get moody and let things affect me that I wouldnt normally care about. I also get *****y at my gf which is the worst of all.
The key is maintaning that 'happy drunk' stage where you're fine just on a buzz.

Good luck dude on stopping drinking, it can be hard if you still meet mates in the pub.
As to the people who are "Don;'t think alchol is bad it will kill you", I like alot of people who work 9-5 monday to fri find it good to unwind after a LONG week of work with a few good pints. I will admit I've not been out for a few weeks but thats only been down to cash.
plus everything in this world will kill you at some point.
