Often wondered that myself. Are they in complexes or do they spawn in roid belts? I've been able to get a few nice domination spawns in belts but no officers yet. -------------------------

If you are very lucky then in the mission gone berserk ( any lvl of agent ) there might be a dread gurista on the last wave that comes... else they are only very rare in 0.0 belts and High lvl of danger complexes

According to the rumor, only -1 systems, and I lived in such one for months - never to see one. Only heard of one other guy ever to get officer spawn. So I suggest to move on and not try to find them, its like winning a lotto ------------------ Tired of fleet combat lag? -Post HERE

Officers can infact spawn anywhere in 0.0, its mainly random, tho some people say you get more chance in lower sec status systems, which seems to be reasonable. Ive sen 3 in my time, in systems with a sec of -0.6, to -0.8.
Am also fairly sure that there is a much higher % of officer spawns in the pirate factions claimed space - stain, curse, bits of fountain and venal.

Edited by: Omega Bloodstone on 13/07/2006 14:50:28 Okay. I get alot of afficer spawns. I have even hit actual personal named ones like "Bryan" and what not. How? Well, first off it only happens in 0.0 for the actual "personal named ones" but standard "shadow serpentis or darkblood" types can happen in low sec as well. The named ones also are NOT restricted to a -0.1. It can happen in 0.0 just as easily.
How? Go into 0.0 and do not chain spawns. You or you and your corp need to go through every belt in the system killing everything including the stupid cruiser and frig spawns. Rinse and repeat. This can take forever but is true information. Once you've cost the faction enough isk they get mad and might throw the officer at you. I average 3 or 4 officers a week.
Edit: the actual "personal named ones like Bryan" geberally will fall in a -0.1 type system

Dude. I don't lie. I have absolutely no reason to over a game. I hunt mabye 4 hours a day with my alt and pvp with my main. Now, I seriously hit 4 or so Shadow serpentis a week in Fountain, and once a month or so get a "Bryan" type spawn. A matter of fact...a corp mate hit Bryan in a system called d4k which is a -0.1 in fountain and then 5 minuts later I hit the same guy in (d 4 jumps away) wich is also a -0.1.
Its a game. Absolutely no reason to lie lol...omg dude...

That wasn't an officer spawn, that was a commander spawn. Officers fly bs and you can only find them in 0.0.

Those are faction spawns, not officers.
Just to quickly clarify :
1. Every region has a one faction spawn at any one time. This includes core empire regions and highsec - if the system can spawn hostile NPCs at all, it can spawn faction NPCs as well.
2. Only regions with pirate sovereignty get officers, which follow the same basic spawning pattern as faction spawns (one per region and most likely in the system with the most spawn triggers), yet at a much, much lower rate.
3. Every officer is in a battleship. Faction spawns however exist for any type of shiphull, including frigates.
4. Missions can also have faction spawns. Nerf this bollox please :o

Well...There is certain items(especially power diags) that can sell at extremely high prices. Some can sell as high as 500 mill+...The items are just that rare and just because you pop one it does not mean he is going to drop that uber mod.
Edit: and yes it may not be a direct fact but I farm and sometimes and sometimes try to spawn faction spawns by killing all in the belt. It seems that they drop after the belt continues to spawn new rats. It may be just because you are making the spawns respawn alot increasing the chances as opposed to just farming them. In which does not help more spawn chances. I'm mainly a pvper so I am merely stating the results of my encounters with Named officers and what not..

Well, not necessarily contradicted myself. I said the more damage isk wise AND killing all the spawns lol(both were said). If I was only CCP I would base factual stuff on how it works but since I'm a player I have to base my ideas on the things I see and experience. Hell, if I'm ripping through belts killing everything and then get that uber spawn I'm going to search for reasons why. I've had it happen pretty often. So, because its happened to me a few times and I was utilizing the same ratting technique on all the occasions I assume thats a nich for making it happen. Mabye I'm just seriously lucky, but I'll stick to my opinion though because it happens to me.

I've gotten a Sansha officer Brokara Ryver in C-PEWN (Esoteria) before and it had no pirate sovereignty. However when Tribal Souls setup one of their POS and claimed sov. in that system I haven't heard of anyone getting any officer spawns there. That might make some sense though, but I'm more inclined to believe that it is totally random and it is determined when you actually warp to the belt. Officers don't just appear there and you can't find them using a scanner.
So Ernest if your theory about regions with pirate sov. getting officers then wouldn't Pirate NPC regions like Stain (Sansha) be the best place to find them?

Spawning is the way every NPC appears. If people didn't kill them when they spawn, they can "just sit there" perfectly fine.
Yeah, the pirate sovereignty bit might be a bit off. I'm really curious on more information on what makes officer spawns possible, but I can confirm that they spawn quite nicely in pirate sovereignty regions ;)

I have seen officer in tribute, and as far as I know thats not a pirate region. Hmm, actually GODS had sov in h-w and d7 at that time, so maybe you could say that it was owned by pirates
From what I have heard, its completely random what spawns, but the cleaner the system is, and the lower its security rating is, the more chance its a valuable spawn. So chaining is usulally not a good way to get commanders or officers.

think of officers as shadow shadows if you like .. !
the way to spawn shadowas is the way to spawn officers but for every five shados youll get an officer ... !
the way to spawn shadows is to kill every ship in the system - every system will spawn one shadow a day .. officers therefore should be like ... if your at it 24 hours .. youll get therefore an officer about every 4 days .. ! working non stop .. :) get your corp to rota it in each system ..and you should be able to farm officers as you can farm shadows .. ! it just takes time .. to kill EVER ship makes you moe likely to get shadows as the guy says ... officers to me sound like shadow shadows ... so if you work rotas in your corp if your stationned in 0.0 youll get one about every 5 days working 24/7 on the rats .. !

As for the rest.. Go to Curse. Seems to be your best shot at seeing an officer spawn. Relatively close, good to great NPCing, lot of stations. Reasonable market for 0.0. Hostile gangs roaming all over all the time. Get friendly with locals and accept the fact it's as violent place as any.

I tried eveything while ratting, I think and my opinion is that it is ramdom.

Yes its random, but doing corp/alliance wide system/constellation farming of the belts you can dependably get one every few days. ---

Originally by: Lord Spidey We used to chain spawns but since we started actually moving through the belts we have gotten many more officer spawns(in curse so under angel sov). Prolly about half a dozen in and as many months. Maybe they just spawn more in their territory?

Interesting idea about killing all the npc's in a system, because after a podding in a fleet action I ended back in JZV-F4 when most of the alliance were still up in d7. So I went npc'ing around the belts and killed every single npc I found. Got to the last belt and got a Guristas Officer - Kaikka. JZV is a -0.9 I think and soverignty was Forsaken Empire at the time.
Maybe theres something in it - killing all the npc's. ? ------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Ctair Pilru on 15/07/2006 22:20:16 This morning the spawns in our ratting system of choice were terrible. Almost all battlecruisers. As such, we spent a couple hours or so just clearing all the crappy spawns.
This evening it paid off!

iŠve had 6 officers and 0 commanders so far 2 officers in querious, 1 in 0.8 one in 0.2 and 2 in missions. And yeah those Commanders are in the faction 0.0 sectors so my agent told me when he offered a BPC and wanted tags in exchange. So basicaly officers can spawn anywhere from 0.8 to 0.0 but the loot aint that good in 0.8 of corse since its just a frigate.
Well its about 1.5 years ago now so i dont know if they still spawn in 0.8
