Heya guys, im currenly still a bit newb, 2.7mil SP. Flying Caldari ships BUT not a missle user. ive been skilling up my gun skills and hybrid weapons (not tier 2 yet).
Now i fly a railrox and a moa and im yet to REALLY get into pvp. Im interested in finding out wether i should change race for pvp as more people say caldari arnt really good for solo pvp.
Im also thinking of either min or amarr as a 2nd side or mabye main side, if caldari arnt any good. Is it worth my time training up tier2 hybrids or should i just switch to another team and save my time?

Apparently Minmatar are a good switch over for Caldari. Since they use guns and missiles...
In anycase, the Moa isn't a good solo ship from what I've heard, and the Ferox as a rail boat...well...people tend to just laugh. It's a good sniper for gate camps but not solo PVP.
Now, I've heard good things about the Harpy, which I've just invested in, so we'll see how that goes.

sigh. a railrox is good if you know what you're doing. and if hes trained HYBRID TURRETS, im pretty sure Gallente would be a quicker and easier transition to different and better pvp ships. I'm completely caldari specialized, missiles and rails. I wish I could fly a mega.

Edited by: welsh wizard on 15/07/2006 02:50:46 Theres a few good solo Caldari ships but they're definitely better setup for support or gang roles.
Caldari are the least damaging race but they can make up for it with lame ECM setups. If your enemy can't shoot you then it doesn't matter how much their guns hurt.
The Raven, Crow and to some extent the Caracal/Cerberus hold up on their own against ships of a similar class. The Ferox is pretty versatile (slot layout, great tank) and can be setup to solo although I would argue against rails and for missiles.
edit: If you're solely a hybrid user (and not missiles) then you won't have much success solo in a Caldari ship. The Harpy is about the only good Caldari hybrid ship and even that doesn't really compete against the other races AF's at close range (unless you fork out 70-80mil for a gisti a-type).
Perhaps training up Gallente might be an idea.

i havent trained up the for the tier2 hybrid weaps yet as im not sure on if i want to.
and my missles skills are OK. missle launcher op is level 4 and all other missle skills at 2
but my gun skills are way in advanced, eg gunnery 5 and all the others at at least 4 or 5 for a couple
to train a new set of weap skills eg lasers or projectile isnt that bad as no time wasted in tier2 hybrid.
DO min have any good close range ships?

The scorpion is a pretty good solo ship. ECM (just about) anything, peck away at their tank untill they pop.

The Taranis is a good Gallente inty.
But you can use a close range ferox too you know. Guns + NOS and you should be able to figure out the rest of that setup...not sure if the guy I fought was using armor or shield tanking though.
Ferox can be a mean close up ship. Minmatar have a lot of good close up fighters. Rupture is a fun one.
Caldari are VERY good at being support ships. I say that because all jammers I see are primary usually =P. If you have a friend, hop in a blackbird and jam+tackle for him/her =P ---

Edited by: Jim McGregor on 15/07/2006 08:01:08 Go for gallente or minmatar. Gallente have Dominix, Megathron, Ishkur, Deimos and lots of other ships that really are pretty insane. Minmatar have the Vagabond which is great for speed junkies, but of course everybody thinks it should be nerfed because minnie dont deserve one good ship...
And yeah, i was mostly making a point btw. Minnie have several great ships as well, like Rifter, Rupture, Tempest, Sleipnir etc.

Perhaps a slight problem with minmatar is that they're pretty skill intensive before they get really get good. A close range auto-cannon tempest is very nasty and they also do range very well with 1400mmm artillery.
You're at a point where you're still fresh enough to swap to any other race. Whichever you decide on theres still going to be another set of skills you have to train for.
If you like close range I'd go for Gallente as you have hybrid skills, you'll need to train up your drone and armour tanking skills though.
Alternatively stay Caldari, get 3 million + sp in missiles and you'll be very nasty at close range, especially in a Raven. It's not boring either, pvp is never boring, the adrenalin always flows.

Don't give up on the Moa until you've tried a couple of these cheap setups, they should do at least 'ok' in solo PvP. I have yet to test them myself, always end up in a Blackbird or Scorp for group stuff it seems.
Moa: Solo PvP 200mm ~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2x Medium Nos, 4x 200mm Compressed Coil (Anti = 30km, Lead = 50km, Tungsten = 65km) 1x X5 Webber, 1x 20km Scram, 1x Invuln Field, 1x Medium Shield Booster II 2x Power Diagnostic System I, 2x Linear Flux Stabilizer I (or a Damage Control)
Moa: Solo PvP Dual150mm ~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2x Medium Nos 4x Dual 150mm Compressed Coil (Anti = 20km, Lead = 30km, Tungsten = 40km) 2x Large Shield Extender II, 1x 20km Warp Jammer, 1x X5 Webber 3x Linear Flux Stabilizer I, Emergency Damage Control I
Many people will say the dual 150s are junk, but they have about 95% of the raw DPS of 200mm rails plus much better tracking, and they're very easy to fit allowing this really fat tank:
6555 shield, 20.48/s, E/T/K/Ex=31/45/58/72
Of course you can always ditch any sort of tanking gear for ECM, but I personally dislike using ECM in my non-EWar birds... Chivalry is not dead but I often am :)

Caldari ships have drone bays too.
If you dont spend a week or 2 training drones at some stage in your game life then you are not maximizing your ships capabilities.

Your pretty much a mirror image of my character except the fact I look sexier , anyway back to the topic IĈm currently switching over to Gallente ships as there setups and slot layouts as well as skills I will need to train suit my tactics and style of play very well, its really how you want to play. Amarr your going to be armor tanking using lasers and your going to need good engineering skills to boot, Minmatar your going to be armor tanking as well as some shield if u use the cyclone and some other of there hybrid tanking ships, speed is the key so high navigation skills is nice to have and projectiles for weapons, then there is Gallente but like you said you donĈt really want to go them but like Deja said IĈd recommend putting at least a weeks worth or more sp into drones at least drones 5 interfacing 4 and scout 4 to maximize the benefits of any races ships that have drone bays.
what ever youdecide good luck
