Hey guys I'm fairly new to mining and I was on eve university http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Asteroids_and_Ore and saw I was one jump away from being able to mine Kernite, so with that I am currently mining Luminous Kernite but before I was mining Solid Pyroxies, can anyone tell me which I should mine and why?
How I see it as the ores where you have to go to a lower security section should be a priority?
Thanks in advance :) |

Prices change with supply and demand. You really simply need to do the math. |

Is there a forumla to this math? Something like
(total mining laser m3 / mining laser cycletime * 60) / volume of ore * price of ore = income per hour.
But there's load of nuances to it. The isk/m3 column here is generally a good indicator.
And remember! Sell your ore (for a good price), don't refine it! Compress it if you can. The Indecisive Noob - EVE fan blog. Wholesale Trading - The new bulk trading mailing list. Chrysus Industries - Savings made simple!

There are great tools out there which provide good estimates (ore.cerlestes.de for example), but really if you're just starting out mining in highsec my advice is to just mine whatever comes your way. The different ore types are fairly well balanced in terms of game mechanics, but market demands can fluctuate rapidly, especially on a local level. If you want to maximise profits, make sure you have adequate refining skills and good standing with the NPC corp at the station you're refining. If you move minerals rather than ore, your options are far greater in terms of being able to fill more distant market orders.
Finally, I would not recommend lowsec for mining unless you are in a corporation capable of defending you and your produce. Lowsec ores are not automatically more profitable either, its just that the belts are much less competed for and you never have to worry about running out of asteroids. |

http://ore.cerlestes.de/ is accurate for everything except Mercoxit, because it is harvested at a slower rate than all the other ores.
I made a spreadsheet too.

So I should be looking at the isk collum and try to mine the one with the highest isk within my ability? |

Up until Crius, ore value was based on the value of the mineral content. Hence most websites and spreadsheets value ore this way.
Post-Crius however, you also have to take into account that minerals aren't necessarily the goal. Compressed ore is becoming more popular, plus reprocessing yield can vary greatly with skill / facilities / implants.
They are tools, not answers to your question, as markets vary.
Max Ore Value = MAXIMUM( 100 * ore sell order value , batch mineral content sell order value , compressed ore sell order value ) / 100
EDIT: I need to add that to my spreadsheet. |

You can look at cerlestes but usually pyroxerxes or scordites are the best to mine (But I don't advise mining for profit in the first place so....) "Your security status has been lowered." - Hell yeah it was! |

I made a website just for the purpose of figuring out what to mine.
Highsec Ore - Sorted by Mineral value
Highsec Ore - Sorted by Compressed Ore Value
If you have access to a compression array you can improve your profit quite a bit. Furthermore, i respectfully request these forums to be upgraded to support preformatted text. |

for the former, just mine the most rare ore you can and work to the least rare ore.
for the latter, you can never go wrong with mining veld and scordite as tritanium and pyerite are what you spend the most isk on. yes, individually, megacyte and zydrine are more expensive, but they are required in such a lower volume that they are one of your cheaper expenses |

to be clear: isk/m3, not isk per unit.
You mine in m3 chunks. Ore comes with different numbers of units per m3.

Nice but why do you limit it only to highsec ores? (Especially since even in highsec you should be able to find other ores if you "scan" for them, unless they tweaked that in Crius, I didn't see it in the patch notes and didn't check).

Well, those other ores are not actually more profitable than highsec ores most of the time and require effort. Since the OP was a newbie, i decided to filter by highsec ores.

When mining with the intent to sell for ISK, you need to look at how much ore is gained per M3 and how much M3 you mine per cycle. Most of the time low lvl ore makes you more ISK due to the fact that you mine more per M3 compared to "better ore". For example, azure and rich plagioclase sells for 58 instantly in chelion, and you mine slightly over 3 ore per M3 giving you a total of 174 ISK per M3. Omber on the other hand gets 1.5 ore for every M3 mined and sells for around 75 so you only get 112.5 despite the ore being more valuable. As of right now I have found that for my region, azure and rich plagioclase are by far the highest ISK per minute/hour than any other ore, but keep in mind that will vary based on where you are. If you are in gallente space, I'd recommend heading over to mirilene to mine and store plagioclase and sell it over in chelion, which is a jump away. |
