2x malkulth cruise 4x ablarest Siege
1x Shield amp 1x large shield booster II 2x Kin hardener II 1x Hear hardener II 1x EM hardenerII (those damn sentry towers)
2x BCU II 3x PDU II
This mission is easy for me...
Untill i get the the final area, and somehow 3 battlecruisers, 2 battleships, 4 frigates and 4 sentries kill me in less than a minute, I warp out on 20-30% shields and get to where i warp to with about 90% armour left. There is just way, way too many missiles and i dont have nearly enough time to kill anything, not even a frigate because If i used my drones id probably end up abandoning them.
Some people suggest using an XL booster instead. If thats so can someone please list the skills and to what level I need to run it for longer than a minute and 20 seconds? -------------------------------------------- Mr.Kippling just launched a nuclear holocaust at third world countries!!! But he does make exceedingly good cakes...

To effectively run a XL shield booster you'd need to fit a nos or two and suck power from the NPC's that come close. A cap recharger is useful but not imperative. You could also try using 2 named large shield boosters and pulse them. Try keep your shield at around 40% so it's at optimum recharge.
For the I-win set-up fit a Gist X-Type XL booster with 2 shield amp's. It repairs over 1000 hp's per 4 second cycle and uses less than half the cap of the XL SB II. There's the reason they cost ~1b ISK.
Take out the sentries first, they're the ones eating your shield.

Thats not a bad setup but you cant boost enough. Lose the em hardner and
You can either fit a XL and a cap recharger to attempt to recover the increased cap demand.
or
Replace it with a extra boost amp, works well with L boosters, allows you to surivive in those situations where your shields are going backwards.
Your current setup should work well for most missions but there are some where the incoming damge is so great that L booster and 1 amp just run backwards.

2x Shield amp 1x large shield booster II 1x Kin hardener II 1x Heat hardener II 1x Invuln field II
1x BCU II 3x PDU II 1x Damage control (best you can afford)
I've assumed you can't afford a bunch so gone with reasonably cheap missiles etc. Ideally you want a gist c type booster (or similar) and shield comp skills.
Tactics is probably your problem; I generally ignore all frigs and sentries (usually attacking sentries causes entire levels to aggro) and instead concentrate on cruisers, destroyers, then battleships. One group at a time!
You could also try fitting an 100MN AB and "racing" away from the sentries; did that yesterday with Guristas Extravaganza and they stopped attacking me at 30km so I could just ignore them and concentrate on everything else. Depends on their locking range though.

For gurista missions, even if there are some sentries, the best way to tank is to use 2 * kinetic hardeners, and kill the sentries first.
Something like this: - xlarge shield booster, 2*kin hardener, 2* shield boost amp, cap recharger t2 - 3*pdu t2, 2*bcu t2
Also, dont buy the gisti x-type xlarge shield booster, its not worth it. Go for a xlarge gisti b-type instead, and spend the cash you get over on 37.5% shield boost amplifiers. It has about the same cap/boost ratio, but boost a few % less.
