Edited by: Dark Shikari on 18/07/2006 13:07:18 Here's some I heard the other day that were actually pretty funny.
Q: What happens if you ferment an Abelian grape in a Klein bottle?
A: You make a topologist whine.
Q: At 3 o'clock, you come across a topologist in his office who still hasn't eaten his doughnut or drank his coffee from 10 that morning. What happened?
A: The topologist couldn't figure out whether to dunk his doughnut into his coffee mug, or his coffee mug into his doughnut.
Person 1: What's the integral of 1/cabin?
Person 2: A log cabin.
Person 1: No, a houseboat - you forgot to add the C!
A mathematician, a biologist and a physicist are sitting in a street cafT watching people going in and coming out of the house on the other side of the street. First they see two people going into the house. Time passes. After a while they notice three persons coming out of the house. The physicist says, "The measurement wasn't accurate." The biologist says, "They have reproduced." The mathematician says, "If now exactly one person enters the house then it will be empty again."
A mathematician, a physicist, and an engineer were traveling through Scotland when they saw a black sheep through the window of the train. "Aha," says the engineer, "I see that Scottish sheep are black." "Hmm," says the physicist, "you mean that some Scottish sheep are black." "No," says the mathematician, "all we know is that there is at least one sheep in Scotland, at least one side of which looks black!"

An H+ ion is looking miserable, so one of his atomic buddies asks him wht the problem is.
"I've lost my electron" says the ion.
"Are you sure? asks the atom.
"Yes, I'm positive"

A man flying in a hot air balloon realizes he is lost. He reduces his altitude and spots a man in a field down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts, "Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?"
The man below says, "Yes, you're in a hot air balloon, about 30 feet above this field."
"You must be an engineer," says the balloonist.
"I am. How did you know?"
"Everything you told me is technically correct, but it's of no use to anyone."
The man below says, "You must be in management."
"I am. But how did you know?"
"You don't know where you are, or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."

And I'll add a few to it as well.
Management: If it isn't broke don't fix it.
Engineer: If it isn't broke it doesn't have enough attachments
another one:
An Engineer is at his retirement party. As he leaves he tell's management that he is now retired and he is not to be bothered by them. Well 6 months later a peice of machinery breaks down. The younger engineers try there best to figure out why this machine isn't working. After Days of trying they give up and management being disperate calls the retired Engineer. They tell him it will be just this one time and they will pay what ever he charges for his time to come in and look at it.
So the Engineer agrees and the next day comes in to look at the machine. He spends 15 minutes looking at it before he takes a piece of chalk and draws an X on one part of this machine. He then tells the manager next to him to have that part replaced. Sure enough after replacing the part the Machine starts working again.
2 Days later the Management receive a bill from the Retired Engineer for $50,000. Shocked by this amount, the Management demands a break down of the bill. So a day later the retired engineer sends a detailed break down of the bill.
It read;
Chalk to draw the X: $1 Knowing where to put the X: $49,999
After reading this the Management paid the bill and never bothered the Engineer again.

An engineer, a physicist, and a mathematician are all attending conferences, and happen to be staying in the same hotel. During the night a freak electrical problem causes fires in all three of their rooms.
The engineer wakes up, sees the fire, fills the trash can with all the water it will hold, and douses the fire. The physicist wakes up, sees the fire, fills the trash can exactly 7/10ths full and douses the fire without leaving a drop in the can. The mathematician wakes up, sees the fire, says "A solution exists." and goes back to bed.

Because Oct(31) = Dec(25)
Bu-dum-dum-tish.
Just got this one from some random joke site:
Jesus and Satan have an argument as to who is the better programmer. This goes on for a few hours until they come to an agreement to hold a contest, with God as the Judge. They set themselves before their computers and begin. They type furiously, lines of code streaming up the screen, for several hours straight. Seconds before the end of the competition, a bolt of lightning strikes, taking out the electricity. Moments later, the power is restored, and God announces that the contest is over. He asks Satan to show what he has come up with.
Satin is visibly upset and cries, "I have nothing, I lost it all when the power went out."
"Very well, then, " says God, "let us see if Jesus fared any better."
Jesus enters a command, and the screen comes to life in vivid display, the voices of an angelic choir pours forth from the speakers.
Satan is astonished. He stutters, "B-b-but how?! I lost everything yet Jesus' program is Intact! How did he do it?"
God Chuckles, "Everybody knows...Jesus Saves."

this is too true too:
Ever wonder why you don't see many cookbooks that have been written by chemical engineers? Well, despite the fact that I happen to be one I can certainly understand why most folks wouldn't expect much from an engineer's "The Way to Cook" manual. This may be the reason why:
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients: 532.35 cm3 gluten 4.9 cm3 NaHCO3 4.9 cm3 refined halite 236.6 cm3 partially hydrogenated tallow triglyceride 177.45 cm3 crystalline C12H22O11 177.45 cm3 unrefined C12H22O11 4.9 cm3 methyl ether of protocatechuic aldehyde Two calcium carbonate-encapsulated avian albumen-coated protein 473.2 cm3 theobroma cacao 236.6 cm3 de-encapsulated legume meats (sieve size #10)
To a 2.0-L jacketed round reactor vessel (reactor #1) with an overall heat transfer coefficient of about 100 Btu/F-ft2-hr, add ingredients one, two and three with constant agitation. In a second 2.0-L reactor vessel with a radial flow impeller operating at 100 rpm, add ingredients four, five, six, and seven until the mixture is homogenous. To reactor #2, add ingredient eight, followed by three equal volumes of the homogenous mixture in reactor #1. Additionally, add ingredient nine and ten slowly, with constant agitation. Care must be taken at this point in the reaction to control any temperature rise that may be the result of an exothermic reaction. Using a screw extrude attached to a #4 nodulizer, place the mixture piecemeal on a 316SS sheet (300 x 600 mm). Heat in a 460K oven for a period of time that is in agreement with Frank & Johnston's first order rate expression (see JACOS, 21, 55), or until golden brown. Once the reaction is complete, place the sheet on a 25C heat-transfer table, allowing the product to come to thermal equilibrium.

The balloon one reminds me of the two management theories:
Seagull Management Fly over, ****, fly off.
Mushroom Management Keep them in the dark and feed them **** all day.

"I am. How did you know?"
"Everything you told me is technically correct, but it's of no use to anyone."
The man below says, "You must be in management."
"I am. But how did you know?"
