With the upcoming nerf to window controls (loss of ability to lock windows in place), it would be a great option export all window and option settings to an XML file much like we can with Overview settings.
It would also make things easier to preserve settings among multiple accounts and boxes for those who multi-account and/or multi-box their EVE (I sometimes have 2 accounts logged in at once).
The files are currently saved in a binary file that we can't do much with, but an XML file is easy enough to edit, if we want to remove some minor settings (for instance if we want to run our main gaming box on all High settings and a laptop on Low settings. Currently we can't edit the .dat file that contains our settings to make the changes required to not bring the laptop to a halt, but it would be easy enough to edit the XML file for the laptop-specific settings.

Good idea.
I suggested something else, a keyboard with tabletsize touchscreens for overview etc. Maybe the export should also be able to be stored there, or multiple for that matter. |

It would be so nice to manipulate the user settings offline .
- Use a template account for window positions. you can offline copy the 'core_char_{id}.dat' / 'core_user_{id}' from one over another, but would be nice to have it done from within EVE
Windows 7: C:\Users\{some name}\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
- Determine where what client goes after login. Especially when using a lot of accounts over multiple screens.
- Store password on your favorite PC for easy login.

...but take a look at ..\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\IGBR\settings.yaml. - these are your settings dumped in ascii format. it looks ... interesting... like it has "grown" over the years... i fear it needs lots of refactoriing to seperate the real "core settings" from history, cached data and what should be created dynamically. and touching the structure of code always turns out being more work than anticipated... check the moderated little ideas/10000 papercuts/low hanging fruit article! comment, bump(!) and like what you like: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Little_things_and_ideas_-_low_hanging_fruit_-_10000_papercuts |

I don't have that file in my IGBR directory but I recognize some of the other files there, this appears to be a temp dir where the bugreport tool puts its stuff.
I can only suspect the bugreport tool dumps a copy of your settings to include with the bug report and that changing that file has no bearing on your in-game settings (they're in the core*.dat files in the settings dir.
I'll have to take a look at what is generated next time I send a bug report (I don't want to send an "empty" bug just to test it).
Please support: export of settings in editable format

I have made threads about this recently, of a program to copy, export and transfer settings files. Which these files still exsist on your computer by the way, its just sometimes when patches are put out a error comes up and it auto creates a new setting folder.
Main settings= C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
Older settings= C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings_backup0
I often manually copy over and backup the user and char.dat files for my main character, that way i can copy and rename to other account/character ID's.
Also, it is possible to change the color of the ship type and alliance tickers in space. For instance, in this screenshot you can see that shiptype is orange, and alliance ticker is blue. There was a website setup to building saving and editing those kinds of things into the overview. But i am not quite sure how that particular coloring feature is done, i have a rough idea, but ive tried editing it in the past and it didn't work.
Anyways, I'm all for something like this being made by someone outside of ccp.
Edit:

You can, once you open the client from a new copied folder from say your desktop, it creates a file in local app data, like the one stated above, and creates new cache and settings folders. From which you can copy the old settings files to the new folder. |

I dont see why importing/exporting account related setting still isnt a thing of the future, there is so much in eve that you can setup would be cool to backup this up in a easyer way.
I had to go true reinstalling windows a couple of times (yeah i fail i know), and it seems the old copy trick doesnt work as good as it used to (the local user data was a mess for some reason, copying around the eve client isnt a good thing anny more either it seems). Lucky enough i manged to retain most of the overvieuw settings i had, but still loads of other things i have to redo including the stupid confimation mssg etc. |

Suggestion: save character and account configs in XML, not just "export/import". And allow to specify it like . template ... tab for="ship.cargo" in="@12314123" //I don't care if I get this from right-click menu in game or by manual XML editing ... tab for="ship.cargoore" in="@12314123" ... tab for="ship.fuelbay" in="@12314123" ... tab for="container.jetcan" in="@87912" ... frame for="ship.fitconfig" x="100" y="100" h="600" h="200" shift ... frame for="info.module"
. frame name="@12314123" x= y= ... tab chat channel="mychat" blink="off" ... tab autosaved cargo ship="#283756285151252" //this is added by game client, spawned from one of template lines above ... tab autosaved cargo ship="#982345172512371" ... tab autosaved cargo ship="#715392356375609"
-- so I won't need to drag every huggin' cargo of every huggin' new hulk on every huggin' account every huggin' time you patch it, to place where it belongs. And no, dragging present "frame with all default ship cargo tabs" to desired place doesn't work as it should.
Come on, you have nifty xml for ship configs and overview settings, it's time to go deeper. |

Anyways, I'm all for something like this being made by someone outside of ccp.
You can change the color of you overview tabs and the brackets in space. Open the overview settings and goto 'Overview Tabs' there you can change the tab name so that is contains some basic html tags for color and size etc.
tabName note: You need to replace the [ and ] with < and >
Editing the brackets you see in space works almost the same. For this to work you need to export, edit and import the overview.
Just add the html tags in the globalSettings, ShipLabels, Label Pre (open) and Post (close) Important to note here is that you cannot use the < and > at all. These need to be replaces entirely!! The < needs to be replaced with < The > needs to be replaced with > for it to work.
