Edited by: sphendar on 04/10/2003 04:46:33 Well guys i am sure i didnt invent this one but here goes. Now b4 i say what it is i want to say it really only works agianst a pirate that makes a habit out of a certian jump. Anyway i havent perfected it but i am getting close.
First you find that jump when it is not being camped and you warp to gate as you normally would. then you go to the other side of the gate, and you keep going past the gate about 35km and you jettison somthing. You bookmark that can.
then when you want to kill a camper you warp your BB or scorpion to that can instead of the gate, you will come out of warp about 10km in front of the place where the can used to be, or about 25km on the wrong side of the gate. And as most good campers sit about 15-25km in front of the gate this will at the very least suprise the camper, and if your sec isnt low he may not notice you atall untill you have him locked. Use the scorpion or BB for what it is supposed to be used for and one or two of your buddys warp in.
BOOM no more camper

Might work against a n00b pirate. Otherwise you're just placing yourself right in the sweet spot for their really big guns

Might work agianst a experianced pirate. Because you're just placing yourself right ing the sweet spot for EW.
Yes i have tried it a couple of times, once i was not spotted and the other time i was spotted but i locked b4 he did. (he was probably spining his camra all over the place looking for me). Using that to warp to the gate should give you the precious second or 2 advantage that the camper has, or at the least even the odds

Thank you for youre post. This post is most likely to help gate campers work their way around youre tactics. Nice try but someone is bound to find out how to stop that from happening

So why not refine the tactic? You've got your big guns and ew warping in first, so while your target is searching for you to lock on, why not have a second bookmark on top of them to warp in a second wave of frigates with short range weapons to swarm or jam him/them? Double the surprise plus an overwhelming choice of targets.
Or maybe you'd want to let him get a shot off first so he can't just juump or dock.
A good tactic is only the start - it has to be flexible, otherwise your target will quickly develop a defense against it.

Understand that the same invulnerability period that protects people from being ganked at gates by pirates protects pirates from being ganked at gates by bounty hunters, even if you use more advanced strategies like this.
There's no way you can confuse a pirate for 10 seconds (that's how long before you can lock) by just warping from a not so predictable direction.
Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes some nublar, wrecking for 1155.0 damage. |

IF i were a pirate (which im not) and you did that, you would drop out of warp right at my optimal range, and you would be space dust a few seconds later

What you need to do is, jump in with a ship fitted with shield hardeners, and status webb and warp scrambler.
Get the guys to attack you and use all your ecm on 1 target,(the one with the biggest bounty)
Get your gang fellows to warp in and while the rest of his friends run you destroy the webbed and scrambled ship.
The ship that goes in first should have sensor upgrades in low slots so he can get a lock and good shields in med, enough to take a pounding for a bit.
Im sure you will find this to work alot better.

This is exactly the way to kill a rat camping a gate or anything else. You have to lure them in otherwise they run away. Most pirates ive known have been ganked a few times and are very paranoid. This also means dont all jump into the system all at once like nothings happening. That the biggest give away ive seen, most rats at that point say goodbye.

You'd be much better off fitting a arma/mega/temp with the longest range guns and ammo you can find, then bookmark 60 to 70km away from the gate. . now either he will come after you (good) or he will just chicken and jump away.Feel free to call names in local chat, play on his massive almighty ego, and he might just bite.
If he comes after you, keep him at range with as long as you can. Now that he's 20km away from the gate, have 2 bud's warp in, and he's sandwitched. If he warps, just make sure you have allot of gates bookmarked so you can play cat&mouse, either untill he does die or gives up.

I prefer Darth Solo's method. But lets not quell Sphendar's creative spirit because you don't agree or like his idea. It's good to provide creative feed back and not quash those who have an idea. Simply telling them it doesn't work is lame! I guess most of you who had negative responses have actually tried this tactic before. I say keep practicing Sphendar. You'll refine your tactics and just become more skilled.

tell you the truth I don't know of any pirate falling for it yet. Being a veteran of many anti pirate ops myself we have tried many a tactic including this one. If you are not a hauler they normally jump or warp away. If there are two of them camping they will take on a single anything that they have over matched. Mostly they just run and hide. I haven't seen one yet that stood their ground. SNIGG is now officially open for business. We are a merc corp looking for contracts. Tyrenical re-read the post i made then take a step back and look at yours. HHMMM did I say anything about 5 battleships, no..... We usually went in with less than they had. There were a few times we went after 2 with 12 but that was just to scare them off a gate. 3 cruisers did manage to scare off a battleship and a thorax. We were all in low level ships, they could have taken us easily, if they had tried.

On a separate note, please do NOT be yet another stupid person littering the game with cans so that you can bookmark a warp target. You can make a BM based on your precise current location using the people and places boomarks menu. It's right beside the button for a new folder.
I'm sick of having to load the anchored can of every ****er who wants an insta-dock or insta-jump and doesn't know what they are doing... For an event, I'd propose that Concorde announce that we all have 3 days to clean up every anchored can of ours within 100 KM of a station or jump gate, and those that don't clean theirs up then get a -10.0 security rating for the next 48 hrs Call it tough love for litter bugs...

You don't have to anchor a can, or jettison anything in order to bookmark a spot in open space.
